I ride Conti GP5000s with TPU tubes on Elite Drive 50D wheelset on a Cervelo Caledonia. I switch between 28 mm and 32 mm tires often. I honestly don't notice the difference in speed. I ride a 35 km route (about 1 hour total time) and I am within +/- 30 seconds on my top times. The biggest differences are caused by the wind or how I feel that day (i.e. if I had a HIIT workout the day before), or traffic or weather. There is no way you can tell the speed difference. I prefer 32 mm - better cornering, better braking, I ride with more confidence (especially going downhill at > 90 kph) and it's better on rougher tarmac. Now those parameters - I can feel the difference Dedicating a 10 minute video and claiming that 28 mm tires are faster is just being dishonest to your viewers.

Very well thought out and presented. No surprise. As an adjunct, I recently switched for 25mm to 28mm on my TCR. I was amazed at how much better it felt instantly. More cushy, more sure-footed. I could not notice any decline in acceleration either. Stay safe.

Thanks Stewart! 28mm tires are the best blend of speed and comfort for road riding.

65psi is too high for the 32s at your weight. I'm 100kg and regularly ride tires like that at 55psi. Once you drop a little bit below 60 pretty much every road imperfection is gone on 32mm. You lose less than half a watt efficiency dropping below 4 bar like that, really worth it the speed difference is not noticeable. The only time you really notice it is climbing above a 6% grade, but that is going to suck on single speed anyway so might as well. Like 55-61 is the sweet spot on all of those 32mm All Weather tires.

I'll try that next time I have 32mm tires on, thank you.

Hey did you spray your bikes yourself? Really like the finish on them. I'm currently retrofitting an old 70's road bike into a single speed bike and I've found some of your videos helpful, thank you for that.

Thank you, glad you find the videos helpful! I don’t spray my bikes. This bike in the video is a bit newer, so it doesn’t have as many scratches as my older wabi Classic. I clean them with finish line cleaner, no hose just spray on and wipe off. Paint is from the factory, wabi cycles.

Do you use any online tire pressure calculators (Silca etc.) or just go with your gut?

I have looked before. At my weight (200lbs) I should be above 85psi. I don’t listen lol, I find that even at 65 for 28mm tires they still feel zippy and not squirmy at all. No pinch flats ever either.

I was always a bit doubtful about 32s, but would you go from 28s to 25s?

I tried 25s and they were good. I couldn’t tell if they were faster than the 28s, I didn’t test the same tire/wheel/bike combo like this. I would think they’d spin up better and be more aero, but they might be too narrow if you have big cracks in your local roads, they could get caught.

what do you eat on long rides like 15+ mil+es?+
@tommilano5431
@tommilano5431 13 дней назад
Usually fig bars during the rides. I keep at least 4 of them in my bar bag or pockets. Before my rides I always eat either oatmeal or an egg sandwich.

You shouldn't need to eat on a hours ride, just don't start hungry

I've got 25mm on front 28mm on the back. I'm 59kg though if that makes a difference. But I like my tires pumped to about 90psi...perhaps against all reason and studies but I dislike the soft spongy feel at lower psi, especially in corners.
@br5380
@br5380 11 дней назад
The 'spongy feel' is the tyre deforming due to road imperfections, if it's too hard to deform then it'll skip - you don't want it skipping... How wide are you wheels, inner width? I'm 75kg with 30mm tubeless at 55psi on 23mm internal rims.

90 psi is too high for me, but I don’t like the spongy feel either. As low as I can go without that, and it’s good.
