The women are making a run in the rap game, but they're not "running" the rap game. "Running" signifies leading, and they are surely not leading it. However, I agree that the women are making a significant and reinvented comeback since 1993ish. Are we including the new skool R&B female artists in this mix with female rap artists? The new R&B artists are smacking hard now with the plethora of 1990s/early 2000s R&B samples being remixed. It's can be heard on the XM Radio channel more so than local Hip-Hop/R&B stations. Really, it's always been an equivalent number of women rapping for every era since 1988. The only factor that's changed is who the female artists are, and their content + style. Back in the late 1990s/ early 2000s, we had women to resurface as rap artists: Shawna, Mia X, Chyna Whyte, Gangsta Boo, La Chat, Eve, Lil Kim, Remy Ma, Trina, etc. During the mid 1990s, the women mainly focused on Hip-Hop and R&B creations. Some lesser known women were rapping in that era. Women, especially from NYC, New Jersey, Baltimore were really, really rapping along with the men in the late 1980s/early 1990s (1988-1993). This was their outbreak era! The women went underground as the men became more aggressive in the mid 1990s, and they resurfaced by the year 2000. Women redirect themselves to Hip-Hop / R&B between 1994-2000. It worked out well for them in doing so! The volume of female rappers now is not that outstanding or anything new. It was more potent and interesting with their mothers' generation (1988-1993).💯😎
