For the last year or so I was completely addicted to my phone. Spending hours on it through out the day, checking e-mails, facebook, instagram, pinterest, etc.
Finally a few months ago, I got sick of this addiction and took charge of this situation by deciding on some phone rules that I have been able to stick to.
I have been more focused, productive and active in my life:)

i found a really good app called moment and it keeps track on how much you use your phone! its free but you can pay 5 dollars and it will send you reminders like "you've used your phone for 30 minutes today." its pretty cool... yesterday i found out i used my phone for 6 hours ;( my problem right now is I'm selling things online and i won't stop checking every 5 mins to see if i sold something or if i got a message regarding an item. its bad.

Sometimes I wished people around me never knew about Whatsapp because now ALL my updates are on Whatsapp and people get offended if you don't reply in time. If I could, I would have reverted my phone back into a simple model that could call, message, take notes, play music, WITHOUT apps. I'm so sick of being on my phone but it just sucks me in and it's pretty scary, one whole day can just whiz by like that. I'm having major exams this year so I really want to get rid of this habit, no more mindless scrolling. I recently deleted FB off my phone too but it seems like I have simply diverted my time to the other apps which is SO FRUSTRATING. Phone addiction makes me feel really depersonalised too and I just want to go back to the days where I was actually living productively.

I hope for anytime that I can be stop for being phone addict for anytime I think I want sell my smart phone and buy a simple phone that just able to send text, call and maybe music but I never do that till this second because I still be phone addict my eyes really sick when I see my phone for a bout 30 minutes I really want stop be phone addict because I lost many thing because of this especially my exams. sorry for telling I just want share

thanks mimi this is just the thing i needed ryt now. i also had a similar situation to u with my vision which made me realize how addicted i had gotten to the phone. but still realizing that didnt make me stop like u did,, i jus continued on doing it. but hearing what u did to try to get ur life back on track without the phone reallly has inspired me to try and get back to reality and ma actual life and not the digital world :D thanks again

I can totally relate! I used to be crazy obsessed with my cell phone until I realized how much my productivity throughout the day suffers from it. Now I try to check my phone no more than 1-2 times a day. I also noticed that being on your phone right before you sleep caused sleeping disorders. So no more watching RU-vid videos before bed for me :))

Great tips! I'm addicted to my phone too, and because of it, I waste so much time when I could be doing better things with my life during those unnecessary extra hours I spend on my phone. I will definitely take action, and build some self-regulation. Thanks Mimi, beautiful as always :)

good for you Mimi! one of my biggest pet peeves is when I'm hanging out or spending time with someone and they're on their phone the whole time. I used to be pretty bad for that a couple of years ago and until someone pointed it out to me I didn't realize how much I was on it so I changed those habits. It's amazing how much people miss out on!

Mimi, this is such a great idea! This will help me fight my addiction to my laptop. I spend hours and hours on youtube and facebook, not sleeping till the morning, not going out with my friends, but watching episodes of tv shows. It's time to stop that!

Loved this video! My iphone was recently stolen & I've had to use a regular/non-smartphone for the meanwhile and to be honest... I love it. I can check my social network websites when I'm near a computer but this way having this buffer phone has really opened my eyes to whats going on AROUND ME! Thanks for the video Mimi!! :)

Thank you so much for this advice:) It really helped me as I always watch RU-vid all day long and Instagram too:) Now I'm trying to follow ur advice and hopefully I can make my day productive as well! I held out from getting a smartphone until this year and waiting was the best thing for me. All I see are teenagers and adults alike with their heads dived into their phones on the train, at the bus stop, in the shops etc. Imagine the amount of physical in person interaction we are all missing out on. Virtual world = a fantasy, not reality.

I was always more addicted to using my laptop. But now that I have instagram I find myself constantly checking for updates. This video has definitely inspired me to try to have more self-discipline and I'm going to try your technique of checking only 3 times per day. I'll make it my new years resolution!! Thanks Mimi:)

thank god someone is talking about this subject that has started annoying me! everywhere i go, i see people "attached/sticked/glued" to their phone(i-phone) and that really bugged me a lot, kuz realtions and human socialising is less important than a THING! luckily i do not owe an i-phone but just a simple phone i can call and text, and that's all folkes! ;) good video Mimi! keep on working on your addiction! best of luck!

Oh my GOD! Thankyou soo much Mimi I realized I had to stop using my phone once I started getting MASSIVE headaches but this is such a great idea I love it I can't wait to start useing it so I can actually focus on my work not constantly being on my phone thank you so soo much Mimi! :)

Omg Mimi u wouldn't believe I was thinking about spending less time on my phone. I recently tested my eyes and I need glass. Your advice is so helpful I'm definitely going to try this. Once again you look beautiful and thank you so much for your inspiration I totally appreciate it.

Loved this video Mimi! A couple of months ago my husband started calling me PA - Phone Addict. When he said that I realised that I have to cut down on my phone usage. I did that by taking away notifications (when I get Instagram, FB etc messages, I switched off the notifications so nothing pops up), and I don't check texts/whatsapp messages when I'm with friends or family. It really has made a difference! :)

You made a very good point. After watching this video I realized that I am addicted to my phone ever since I got an iphone. But it doesn't mean I have to give up on it. I should set boundaries and be in the present. It just really hits me thank you for sharing! :) Love your hair:)

this is a wonderful video. I'v always been cautious of over using my phone. being on your phone for messages and internet use can really be distracting. I asked my husband to ignore his phone during meal times and while we are out so we can actually enjoy each others company. (same rules for me ofcourse!) this is honestly such a smart video and we need more of these to show our generation to start being a part of this world!!

But what if you have lots of apps that you need on your phone? Like reading books, workout apps, focus things that require net connection etc? So when you use them, you go to the social media without knowing it. What to do with this?

Put social medias in folders that are far away from your health, books, etc. A) It makes it less convenient to access, B) It's not just in your face every time you go to look for the other stuff. Also, turn off notifications.

I used to be so much addicted to my iPad and it really spoilt my days, cause I would be sitting for hours in one place without really moving) without any social life for a while:( your video was the last drop that made me put it aside, at least for today:) and I'm definitely gonna follow your advice ! I think the most important thing you said is being present in the moment. It is important to always be fully 100% involved in whatever you are doing at the present moment. If you are cooking, just cook, don't be on the phone or watch TV. If you are speaking on the phone, do just that. And like you said, when you check your phone, that is all you should be doing. It will make you not want to check your phone again so soon.

I'm only on the computer if I have to , such as for work to answer messages, e-mails, etc...also to watch RU-vid videos sometimes, but I limit myself to a few favourites that a watch a few times a week:)

I'm addicted to my phone. Only cause I haven't got a social life! If I had a social life then I wouldn't be on my phone 24/7. I just don't have any friends 😣 Thank you so much for the advice you've gave, it will help me to use my phone less. My eyesight is so bad because of the amount of time I use on my phone! I even wear glasses.

Love this subject!! Im totally addicted to my phone/computer, I try to break away but it seems being on my phone/computer is more exciting than anything else I could be doing... not good! Do you not get on your computer at all during the day or do you have limits on that as well? I will definitely try to limit my time on my phone, because I experienced the same headache/eye issue you mentioned! Not good

a year ago i decided to stop habing a cell phone and it made my life so much more comfortable and easy it was weird ! nobody to disturb me and call me anytime, when i have an meet-up with a friend , no more excuses through text messages, they show up, on time. perfect

Great video Mimi! I'm not addicted to my iphone and only check instagram on it a few times a day. I prefer pinterest on my ipad. Lol.. but I agree about being more present. There's nothing more annoying than trying to have a conversation with someone whose face is stuck behind their phone!

You're right...we have become so addicted to technology now that we are detaching ourselves from everything/everyone else. You gave some excellent suggestions and it reminded me that I need to be more disciplined with my phone/internet usage. It can be so time consuming! Thank you!

I completely agree. It is not to insult those who do have ADD, but people throw these words around today. I work with children who have ADD and there is a big difference between people who cannot sit still, have trouble focussing, who you can't seem to reach, and people who claim to have ADD when they have really just consumed themselves with distractions and created concentration problems for themselves. I applaud you for exercising self discipline because it is so hard to nowadays

I completely agree with this. I am ashamed to say that I am obsessively addicted to my phone :( I never leaves my side and even when im bored instead of finding something useful and productive to do I automatically go on instagram and post a picture of like anything just because I am bored and I try to restrain myself from doing it so constantly and every day and it has sort of worked but not as much as I would want it to. I am exactly like you Mimi! But, the difference is that, when I woke up, I don't feel the need to check my phone to see if there are emails or notifications. I take the time to have a breakfast, to brush my teeth, to take a shower and all the blabla and sometimes, I remember that my phone is in my bedroom and that I completely forgot about it! I am not addicted to my phone but I am reassured to have it with me, in case of emergency :) Anyway, Thanks for sharing you experience with us! :)

I was on my iphone all the time...but then decided to use it only when I am at home, so what I did is that I deactivated the 3G in my mobile. Now, I stopped checking my phone all the day long. I just use to make phone calls, or for texting. Now, I decided to use my computer even when I am at home.My advice is try to minimize using the 3G only when it is really really needed...Keep up the hard work. BTW, I love your hair, and your look Mimi..You look so fresh!
