Love this show but it was bitter sweet knowing all these wonderful actors have passed and that the Queen is no longer with us as well. May they be bringing laughter to her and Prince Phillip where ever they all are 💚
It was really great that they kept the same cleaning ladies throughout much of the series and gave them some lines to say now and then. A nice little bit of continuity that helps make the place seem more complete.
Hilda Fenemore (1914 - 2004) was a wonderful character actress. She appeared in a whole range of TV programmes, many films, including two Carry-Ons and a short Ministry propaganda film during War II designed to attract young girls into the nursing profession!
Miss Brahms does sound "dead common" in that dead common posh received pronunciation english accent after those dead common elocution lessons. Bravo Wendy Richard - R.I.P., we all miss you.
A microcosm of the class system in Britain blended with the new found capitalism with "young" Mr Grace and his moneybags.. Absolutely brilliant writing.
Royalty have married commoners before, "Commoners Miss Brahms, but not dead common commoners!". (in 2018 times had clearly changed in the ensuing 50 years).
After the looks of the folks coming back off holiday here, I'm now reassured us in the states would fair much worse on ours, maybe that's why we hardly get any
I came here because it’s one day after Queen Elizabeth’s passing and I’m reminiscing the past. Not just when they were alive but when Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were younger.
At 12:25, I do believe that Mr. Tebb's "AND" Mr. Humphrey are unaware that Humphrey's lapel covered up his fluted handkerchief. Oh what a mistake to make...???
Love it l love all of them. Go. Go they all work together Thank you . Pbs. May all of you of the people in Are you being served r.ip thank you pbs of you time and have a great day! Your fan sandra.🎬🎥🎭🤗👍🇺🇲🌿🕊️😭🌹💋.2\20 21. P.s thanks Kris.
I'm with Ms. Brahms. If you like the hat, pay for it and it's yours. I realize the man doesn't have a job but I know he can afford it. My parents are the only royalty I recognize.
That Hawaiian suit!! Reminds me of Nathan Lane in The Bird Cage. Comedy has been since destroyed by political correctness. It's great to see these older shows when humor wasn't outlawed by the COMMUNISTS.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
Like, did the help really dress like that in 70's Britain? I notice the sewing ladies on Coronation Street in this era wore the same thing. Yank here. 🤨
It was sad that Arthur Brough was deceased by the time this episode was in production. He was the best senior salesman of are you being served. Though all subsequent senior salesmen had good moments they were not as good as Arthur Brough's character Mr Grainger.
Yes. Mr Grainger was the best senior sales man. I felt they did him dirty in that one episode where he was acting like a child. Really hurt to see his character reduced to that. I like to think of The Clock being his last appearance, regardless of chronological order. He simply retired and lived happily with his wife for many more years. And even came to Grace Brothers from time to time to buy clothing and see old friends. It's also sad Mr Lucas left as well. His replacement, Mr Spooner, was an even more foul mouthed "young" know it all. Except less likable. Nothing to do with the actor I'm sure. Just how his character was written. I was not a real fan of Mr Harman either. Mr Mash was spunky, but generally not outright rude. A shame so many passed or left the show so soon. And now all the original cast is gone.
@@DUCKDUCKGOISMUCHBETTER I can only recall 2 incidents which their Majesties had to respond quickly, the flower pot incident and the Trooping of the colour incident in 1981.
Kris, thank you for posting all these! I'm getting nothing done that I should be doing, but then again,I feel that watching these right at this point in time is exactly what I should be doing. I'm requiring laughter,as much as possible. It's a matter of wellness, don't you know? Truth
This show never gets old. Its like getting together with friends. The characters work so well together and the actors too. This has aged quite well. Sorry that they all have passed. Such talents and so much laughter. Thanks for memories 😊
I love how they're talking about Prince Charles possibly taking a liking to Ms Brahms and she says Royalty has married commoners before and years later Charles married a "commoner"
Princess Di, was no commoner she was a classy lady. Charles had a priceless wife and should've treated her better. She would've made a very good Queen. ❤
Same here... British comedy has been my saving treatment ever since I was a depressed 13 year old...Are You Being Served always hits me just right! Last of the Summer Wine is another one...
I totally agree. Just like Kirsten Dunst. People get on her about "fixing her teeth" but I find it so refreshing when people don't give in to that. I find it so charming and they have so much more character. More real. I don't trust "perfect" features.
@@frankcabanski9409 Mr. Grainger was in series 1-5, then Tebbs, then Goldberg. They had a farewell party for Mr. Tebbs in the canteen, where the episode started right as he 'left.'
@@harperstacey9604 I 💯agree! But I understand Trevor leaving the show he went from being the main character to a very small role and his replacement was okay but not hilarious and not on the same level as Trevor. Mike had a few lines mostly directed at Mrs. Slocombe. I think the last episode was finally centered around his character Mr. Spooner.
@@jay1hi547 I wonder if I spoke to you several weeks ago on another video about Friday the thirteenth, the TV series and other scary movies. You're name is very familiar to me. Am I wrong? From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Saw the 'fluting of a handkerchief' scene when I was around 23yrso, Am 58 and still use it as my guide when I use a handkie; Great show, and 'Yes' their are lots of us in the US that love British comedy; this one is one of the very best, even when at times some of their local customary-references are flitting, lol; they've a very witty form of comedy!
I had to try "fluting" for myself, but I didn't have a handkerchief handy, so I tried it with a paper facial tissue -- and it really works! I love this show; I've been watching it for years, and have seen every episode countless times, but it still makes me laugh.
