When my family had to leave Asia and return to England, my father was very unhappy as he loved it there. He was the first to return to set up the new house, and when we arrived he dashed out of the house shouting about this wonderful tv show, and how very funny it was. Thank you AYBS for the happiness you gave him. RIP Dad, probably now sharing a laugh with Grace Brother’s staff.
I loved the show. I was a kid in the 70's so I grew up (in Australia) watching lots of British sitcoms. I miss those days so much. TV was amazing. So many good shows from the UK & the US. Always something to look forward to watching. We were spoiled for choice. I know a lot of those shows wouldnt be PC today. But I dont care. I loved them. And always will. ❤
I love Mrs. Slocum. She always makes me laugh and she was a very shrewd businesswoman. I just miss the whole bunch of them and I hope that they are all in heaven knowing that all these years later they’re a classic. 🙏❤️
The female customer was in another episode (No Sale) when they all had to come in early to test a theory of Mr. Rumbold. She was late for a wedding and bought 5 hats because she couldn't decide. Another great episode
Yes, you're right...and who can forget Mrs. Slocum saying over and over... "Oh that does suit Madam"....even when the lady tried on the hat box lid by mistake...LOL 🤣
I think one of the subtle strengths of this program was that they introduced the actors visually, and by name, at the end of the show. I was 9 when I started watching and it was the first show I watched that I could name all the actors. The very first cast I could name in its entirety. Really stuck with me.
I wish this show had never ended, the whole cast meshed very well with each other... and all funny in there own wright. Mrs. Slocum and Mr. Humphreys are my two favorites her hair colors were everything 🥰
There was a sequel series called "Are You Being Served Again," I think. Most of the crew retired to a country house-turned-bed&bkfst with new cast who were also very rustic and funny. The scripts were a bit contrived and predictable, but very well done by the cast.
I remember this series was shown on a PBS affiliate starting when I was in high school. All.these years later, it's still one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.
The Role of Mr. Granger is played perfectly. He fits the stereo type of what you would expect a elderly man his age to act like. Every actor in this series is absolutely Brilliant at their acting abilities. My favorite is Mr. Humphreys his personality out shines the others.
R.I.P. to an extremely talented cast. LOVE this show! Thank you for the memories! You all will live on for everyone to share the laughter and happiness you have brought to the world. 😢❤👍
If I have insomnia, I often watch these reruns to ease my mind so I can drift off and dream. I LOL! Beautifully said All. Agreed. Imagine the BBC powers that be at the time, originally told writers NO to casting John Inman. Writer's dug their heals in the ground, insisting BBC see it their way and they Won. Impossible isn't it to think of this Sitcom without John Inman as Mr. Humphreys. May they all RIP And Thank You.
Same here, one of my go to sleep shows! George&Mildred,Keeping Up Appearences, To The Manor Born, Mind Your Language, Bless Me Father .... They are all very relaxing, sedating, just make me to go to sleep with a big smile 😊❤
Mr. Rumbold: Who is this? (listening) What do you mean, you can't guess?! I'm not asking you to guess who I am. What's your name? (listening) I see. You won't tell me until I tell you. LMFAO
I’m 53 now and live in the states.I was in high school in the mid to late 80’s when I started watching AYBS. I also watched Dr. Who (of course) The Goode Life and a spin-off of Three’s company (British version). Now my daughter watches these shows. When we were moving about 10 years ago, we stopped for the night. When we settled in for the night we were clicking the channels. We found Last of the summer wine. It’s incredibly funny as all of these shows are. We also found Keeping up appearances. I love the scenery of these wonderful funny tv shows.
Hilarious! classic! Mr. Gainger has never really been known as a rebel. When news he had to give up his limited counter space, "I REFUUUUSED!!! HE HE HE! LMFAO!!!!!
Mr B...enjoyment comes from being truly funny! These are the basic rules of comedy - making of anybody so no one feels they are the target! The problem with today's and even in the late 80-90s comedy in the US (especially) is that people started being offended by anything so comedy was so diluted that no one watched shows anymore.
I loved her many hair colors and styles! For being in the 70's, she ROCKED IT! I also loved how she spoke of her cat. The first time she said Pussy, I lost it!
She was truly. What I wanted most from every episode was Wendy Richard's wink, the sexiest wink ever caught on film! I'm from the states and find British comedy so outstanding!!!
Honestly the back and forth with the phone call from Rumbold wanting to see Captain Peacock is pure comedy. Always reminds me of the "Who's on first" skit from Abbott and Costello.
I totally agree with Spell bound. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SHOW. I USED to WATCH this WITH MY MOM AND MY BOYFRIEND USED to WATCH THIS AND WE ARE ABSOLUTELY LOVING WATCHIN THESE
@@drewski1535 , agreed. I find myself more and more going back to shows from the past. To be all the way honest, shows before 2016. As an American I find the British humor charming and hilarious. Both things that are lacking in much of our US media.
The passage of time does not diminish the comedy in this show, it's still hilarious in 2020. They were a great team, the writers and the actors who put this show together.
I wish the so called comedy sitcom shows of recent years was this funny! They are less of them nowadays, and reality shows became popular, and I never understood that at all on how people could watch that crap. Almost all of them were scripted and not real, and for them being called reality shows was bullshit! They not as popular when people started to find out they were scripted, and a few more comedy shows have shown up, which I have never watched. I love watching to old very funny shows like this one. Some of yall probably hate me for saying that I found the show The Nanny was an absolute horrible show. I hated that crap, and also Friends. To me they were not funny and the writers should of learned from the writers of this one, Mrs. Bucket, Golden Girls, and all in the family, oh almost forgot to mention Good times. Wish that kind of funny shows would come back again! 🎥😔
HA HA HA ! The beginning of the episode in Mr Rumbold's office was like an Abbot & Costello routine !! And later in the canteen, it looks like they're eating "bangers and mash".... :-)
Watched this with my mom on PBS in the 90s. Happy memories, & the show is as enjoyable now as it was then. One of the many things I like about it is the blunt criticism or mockery traded among the characters, things that are likely to be very embarrassing, even devastating to a person. The one criticized invariably responds as you would imagine anyone would - and then they all go on: "Yes. Well, as I was saying, young Mr. Grace will be down here in five minutes, so I want you all to..." Makes me realize that such traumatic social situations are what we make them. Love all the characters, and enjoy reading the comments of others who love this show. Thanks for posting it!
I watched so many sitcoms when i lived in the UK, from 70 to 95. I was never disappointed. Now I am watching them again in 2020. American Programming is absolute garbage with useless ads. Are you being served was one of my favorites... Thanks youtube and UK.
Richard I'm from America and I do agree with you. The shows that are on TV now is pure garbage and not funny at all. I do miss the shows from the 1970's here in the USA. Better quality back then. Now just junk
Richard...I live in the US, and the reason for the ads is that we pay very little for the entertainment/channels...and RU-vid has so many ads, that it's like the old TV stations. I agree about ads, but these companies are paying fo rthe bulk of entertainment we enjoy!
I watched this when I was quite young. It was HILARIOUS then and is STILL HILARIOUS!!!! Thank you so much for uploading them I am enjoying them quite THROUGHLY!!!!
Thanks! Greetings from Holland! What i love about the Series: They are kibbeling all day, but they can not live without each other. It,s the world in a warehouse like in the real world. People have to get along with each other, and get used to their differences, so they end up finally loving and caring for each other. The CREATOR bless you all near and far!

Regina The Creator is the Lord: the Holy One of Israel, the TriUne GodHead: the Father, the Risen Word.. Spotless Lamb.. and Only Begotten Son of the Father, Jesus Christ our Lord.. and man’s Only Saviour from Sin Death Hell and the Grave.. the Only Redeemer Advocate and Mediator between the Father and man, and the Holy Spirit: and These Three are One! There is none other, and Salvation belongs to the Lord, and He is God!
If anyone is learning English as a second language this is an excellent show to watch. Listening closely to understand the rich subtleties in their jokes and puns will really help you develop your understanding of the language, especially British humor!
@@BruceAlarie Proper use is subjective and depends on where you are, U.K. usage is proper, if You are from the U.K. U.S. usage is proper, if You are from the U.S. Although I personally prefer U.K. English.
One of my favorite episodes and series! No disrespect to the actors who took over as senior assistant in the Men's Department after Mr. Grainger but he was the best in my opinion. It seemed like he wasn't acting at all just being himself. The show is comedy at it's finest.
I watch these episodes over and over. Rather than getting trite or boring, they improve. Truly great writing. Simple, but clever. You constantly find new gems. Mr Rumbold (my least favorite character) on the phone: Hello, who is this? What do you mean you can’t guess? I’m not asking you to guess who I am. I’m asking who you are. You won’t tell me until I tell you. 🤣 Stupid, simple, hilarious.
