I just wanted you to know that I learned something new from this video. I had applied for the LIHEAP several months ago, but I had never heard of the LIWEAP program. I emailed my Community Action representative last night as soon as I watched this video. She replied this morning and said that there were indeed still some funds for LIWEAP in my county so I immediately applied! Within 20 minutes I learned that I had qualified for over $250 to help with my water bill! My water company has already been notified of my award amount. This is a huge help and I wouldn’t have known about it if it hadn’t been for your hard work and effort in making these videos! Thank you so much!
@@mystikskye Yes. Applications can be had at PSEG, where you pay the bill. Ask for the application for the Universal Service Fund. Also, "read" the inserts included within the PSEG bill. There was a lot of information I found in there, after the fact and USF info should be in there, too 👍🏻 This is for New Jersey. LIHEAP is Long Island Heat Energy Assistance Program.
SSI only gives 30 per cent of what you need to live on monthly. Physically disabled are getting cheated by that low amount. SSA employees and Congress wouldn't live on that. They can't expect us to either.
@LowIncomeRelief -- Warning! Pell Grants and housing assistance can be a very bad mix. If you have some kind of housing voucher and you get student financial aid like Pell Grants it is very possible you can lose your voucher. Be very careful on this one. If you want to go back to college ask lots of questions from your housing support source.

I don’t think Florida has very much help for anyone. Which you think they would cuz a lot of seniors retire down here. I’ve yet to find help to do repair work on my mobile home. My roof leaks and my front door when closed has a one inch gap that lets in critters as big as tree frogs. Every place I’ve called either say they don’t work on mobile homes or they DO work on them but you have to own the property. I still need repair work done from when hurricane Ian hit close by here. I did get a little bit from FEMA for cleanup and sanitation but since I was still able to live in my home I didn’t get any help with that. Im almost 65 years old. I shouldnt have to live where I don’t have a proper door to close in the winter. Even tho I’m in Florida it does get down to freezing here. I told myself years ago that if I came into money I was gonna run a foundation just for people with mobile homes. I would either repair their homes or if it was beyond repair I would get them a new one. Sorry for the long rant but I’m just getting so dang frustrated with finding no help out there.
FL is as tough a state for finding help as MT is. If you haven't asked yet at a senior center, sometimes they're a great place to start. @@covahsmusicvault8953 I haven’t given up yet even tho sometimes I want to. I had to hang a sheet over my front door to keep the cold out cuz it’s been kinda chilly down here the past few nights. And I don’t really have a good heat source. This cold doesn’t help my arthritic joints much.
@@mystikskye I've been there. We're a warm 43F in Montana today. The snow & ice are finally melting from the subzero temps of -45F we had the end of December. I've taped my bed pads to the door....even rolled a few up to place against the door. You can also take old knee-high tube socks and stuff them or if you need something longer, I know somebody that cut a pair of old leggings & stuffed them. I've RA & Raynaud's Syndrome. There are times even a warm home isn't warm enough for my feet or fingers. I've had to start covering my feet with a heated throw through the night just to stay warm enough. Everytime I try to apply for one of these programs, I'm told my social security monthly income is too high and I can't qualify. Even though social security is my only income and in a low income non taxable income bracket...

The weatherization program said my insulation needed replacing, but they don't do that. No one at Bexar county, TX, has heard of LIHEAP. Still looking for a twin split for heat and air conditioning, but NO ONE offers that. I keep hearing about HVAC grants, but never found one. Our congressman is useless. I've asked him to do find one. Got ignored.

My weatherization guy told me that NO matter the state...cold or hot, insulation is part of that process. He told me that someone isn't doing their job & suggested I tell you to contact your Action Agency to get this matter attended to. Hope this helps, ~ Covah

I LOVE how they give Seniors, 65 yrs and older, great dental benefits. If they had these dental benefits beforehand they might still have their teeth!! Maybe they can take their dentures in for a cleaning 🤣 Also, if one does receive some cash programs, make sure they're not taxed! They get you coming and going.
@@stellarocquie7957 They're so convoluted, I don't understand them. Social Security sent me a letter saying my retirement benefits were considered as income and could be taxed. I called and spoke to them and do not believe this will happen. Nevertheless, the letter I received stated such.
Then if you get any kind of housing assistance all of this he) money counts as income and will count against you!!! So in essence you can't win for loosing !
I am a senior. I live in Riverside, CA, I just signed up for Calfresh a few months ago because my autistic son eats over $300 a month. At first, we both got $300 a month each. But now I get $35 and he gets $150. I didn't know I had to keep reapplying. Should I reapply or is this normal? Thank you for your help.

FYI some states or counties have the LIHEAP program only during a certain month of the year. and is very limited area of the island. actually only one place for an entire island which can be an issue for certain seniors and the disabled who have transportation issues
I wish there were a simple answer, but each program determines what they consider income and assets differently, so it depends on the program as well as on what type of income or asset the grant is considered to be.

I am gonna be 63 in June . I am on SSDI $ 1,003. is my monthly income. I can't afford to get a place of my own or so far been able to get a vehicle that I can live in. I was hoping you may know of something available out there. I was living in Arizona but due to not having a place to live there I had to moved back to New York state which is the state I was born in. I lived in Nevada for about 40 years but had to move to Arizona after my & my husband passed away less than a month apart in 2018. Anyways yeah while writing this I listened to your video & I believe I guess that I have to wait till after June 2025 as that's when I turn 65.

Great research, how ever most programs take time and that is something a lot of seniors don’t have. We need to find them immediate assistance for housing,health care, assisted living center financial assistance.
I applied for the water grant 10 months ago with a caseworker who helped me with the process & STILL have not received the money to pay the water bill. The caseworker checked on the status & while the application was approved, it seems that the state has yet to release the funds. This is in New Jersey, aka The GARBAGE State, just stating facts.

I heard that if you're on Reverse Mortgage, grants to improve your home will not work, in other words, we're not eligible to benefit from these grants including Liheap, Doesn't sound fair to me! Is this true?

These videos amaze me because I've tried just about everything you've mentioned & was told "No we don't have/offer that" I've been told that many times over so I just gave up! 😕 Even w/the EBT card, they said "I made to much" in my ck 🤬 which I make to little....don't trust anymore 😢
Alot of seniors in the state of Arizona only get 20 to maybe 50 dollars a month in food stamps snap EBT that not very much with the price of food and we haven't gotten the emergency allotment extra since April of 2022
I checked with the DSHS of Washington state and they do not have an ABD benefit. They will help the blind and disabled. Your information has helped me in other ways! I got veterinary help for my dogs and I check the website, too.
What is considered low income? 200% of what? How do you figure this out? Is it the same in every state? Do you have to wait until your 65th bday? I'll be 65 in the summer. Thank you for your help
