Congratulations to RedForeman for correctly answering the question. Yes the dice belong to Han Solo but the correct name for the dice.......Sabacc Dice.
We, like most, started out as part time RVers. For 13 years we spent our entire 2-3-week vacation (split up as they wouldn't let me take more than a week at a time) camping in our Aliner hard sided pop-up pulled by a little Chevy Cobalt SS. We never camped on weekends as I never got a weekend day off, and was forced to work 6-7 days a week, sometimes not seeing home for a month at a time. Needless to say, we were really looking forward to retirement. Five years ago, I retired at 62. We purchased a 1999 National Tropical Class A MH, sold everything and went FT with our little Cobalt in tow. It was the best decision we ever made. We discovered we'd rather boondock, living virtually for free in the wilderness than live in expensive RV parks, wedged into small campsites with fellow campers all lined up like sardines in a can. We boondocked for 10 months straight last year with 620 watts of solar and a 560ah battery. However, we FTed for 3 years with only a pair of flooded lead acid golf cart batteries. You make do with what you've got till you can afford to do better. We've since done much better, adding another 4,400 watts of solar and a 16.3Kwh 48v battery bank making us electrically independent. We can now live off-grid just like we are plugged into a campground power pole running our mini split A/C or heat 24/7 if needed. We live this lifestyle on our Social Security and a couple of small pensions, so saving money by boondocking lets us do the tourist thing, seeing the USA (towing our Chevrolet), getting to see all the great natural beauty this country has to offer without feeling deprived due to budget constraints. It's nice being debt free empty nesters and finally having the time to enjoy our newfound freedom. I think we're well above average in this regard. We're free-range humans. Why be average?
We are now 11 months into our full time adventure. What has worked for us is staying in one place for a while, work camping, then moving on. We have work camped, in Pa., FL., and starting next week in GA. for 3 months. We feel that this method allows us to explore an area thoroughly, eat well and continue on. Is that average? Who knows. So far, it's worked for us. Till Cocktails...... Be safe and Be Well.
We are still a part time. We only plan to take one long trip a year for a while till my wife is fully retired. I would say we are local escape campers. We travel 1 to 3 hour to a state park on Sunday and come home Wednesday so 3 nights away. Every other week april till end of October. We like to get away hike and cook over campfires. Taking full advantage of the 1/2 price state park camo grounds offers for seniors. I would say you are better than most Average full time RVs. You have 2 driving Campers and are about to take an epic journey to Alaska. Definitely above average, exp. for the adventure to come. Can wait to watch. Love you channel.
Sunday through Wednesday is a sweet spot and taking advantage of the 1/2 price state park deal for seniors is nice. I’ll let Chris know you think he’s above average!🤪😁 Just hit Idaho stoping to visit our daughter on the way. Fingers crossed we don’t hit any snow. Thanks for much for watching and leaving such nice comments.😊 Safe travels and enjoy your summer.
I feel as though most full-timers and most-timers boondock and stay at more reasonably priced campgrounds in order to spend more on excursions and activities. BTW we enjoy your conversations through your videos. Y’all are so fun to listen to and watch. 😊
We are part time RVers we plan all our trips 4 nights about every other month up & down California. We are loving it & boon dock, mooch docking, camp grounds State & National Parks. Family of 5. Can’t wait to retire and hit the road full time 😊. Another great video
Sounds like a great way to travel with your family. We love being full time and travels when and wherever we choose. Congratulations on making the decision to go full time one day.
So I’ve been RVing for a couple of years now. I’m on my third RV (can’t seem to pick a size to stay with). I was working 5-6 days per week and would pay a lot to run away for a weekend here and there. Then I got a Thousand Trail’s membership this January. It’s just the basic package with the encore addition. Since January I’ve done a ton of camping with my TT membership and take a lot more time off of work. I stay within a close radius of my home but I’m having a ball! I am a solo female only because my husband doesn’t want to go…. I’d love it if he did. So…long story short, i feel I’m an average RVer having an above average time!
Sounds like the perfect plan. Hopefully your husband realizes what he's missing out on and goes with you on some of your trips. An average RVer having an above average time! LOVE it!!
I would rate us as average. Owned a camper of some sort since my 30’s . Now retired for 5 years and hit the road for 2 to 3 months at a time. Just got our 4th long trip planned for the summer. We sorta do the opposite. Instead of snowbirds,we are sunbirds
My thoughts are; You are exceptional RV's You are full time, have a successful RU-vid site with regular content updates. You have taken the plunge to adventure outside of the regular RV sites with hookups. We are average RV's I started long ago and was always happy to just be outside. Under the stars, to tents to back of the truck to DIY cargo trailer to used RV and then on to the comfy 5th wheel RV. This is new to the wife, so we have started slow, with the purchase of a used RV in 2022. We mostly go to sites with at least electric and water hook-ups, if not full hook-ups. So far all only in Texas, it's a big state. I am able to dine on exceptional meals daily. Father-in-law as a master chef and instructor and taught the wife everything she knows. We are at the point where we are the point where we are planning more extended trips, including out of state. I can work from anywhere, so it is not an issue for me. The wife still has to go in, so trips revolve around her vacation time, 4 weeks per year. We make an effort to be out at least once per month. And at least 1 high end RV resort per year. Once she is retired, the plan is to be gone for a month or more at a time. From there we will see where life takes us.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. Chris would be in heaven if I could cook like your wife.😊 For us it’s burgers, chicken and salmon in the air fryer with the occasional nice restaurants mixed in. You guys sound like you’re having a great time. Enjoy every second life is way too short. Safe travels and enjoy your summer.
We fall in the 3% Happy Camper catagory, minus the snowbird bit. We love moving around and seeing what little gems we can find in each location we visit. This year, we will be about 8 mos in our motorhome, and loving every minute! Stay safe and enjoy your getaway
Dustin believes he's above average in everything except in rv maintenance skills 😂. I feel we are at the top range of being average rvers, lol. Great topic - good food for thought. Thanks for sharing! 😊
Love your channel. Family of 5 here, 12 -19 for kids ages, we are destination travelers. We pick our spot, either the mountains, beach, or boys trip. The only time we make over night stops on a trip is if it is long distance. From NC to NY we made a stop along the coast to enjoy 2 nights. on the way back, we stopped in the mountains for a couple nights. When we went from NC to Key Largo, we stopped on the way to sleep in Jekyll Island but stayed 2 nights on the way back to enjoy the area. Otherwise, our destination is typically 3.5 to 7 hours away. We typically have 9-12 trips per year with one long stay of 7-10 days, otherwise our stays are 3-6 nights.
Thank you! That's great you can get the whole family out to explore and experience this beautiful country of ours. Our only regret is that we didn't start earlier with our 4 children. Your children will have wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing and have a great summer.
Y’all are above average, love y’all! We’re weekend warriors at our local parks here around DFW area (within a few hours drive). The goal is to go full time in a few years after our kiddo graduates so he doesn’t miss out on all the high school memories Also, love the Star Wars dice 🤓
Thank you! Good for you staying around so your child can graduate from his high school with his friends. It's over so quickly so he'll definitely appreciate all those memories. ♥
We have been retired now for over 5 years each, bought new B van in 2020, since we live in Florida ( doesn’t everyone from NY) it’s easy to go and travel around this huge state and enjoy all it’s beauty. Ones the spring we usually head north for some “grand kids time” then around late July we head out in any direction until late September or October. This year it off to the Tetons, Yellowstone, Rushmore and a big maybe for Glacier before heading south then east for home.growing tired of the van so maybe an upgrade to a mid sized “C” is in future. Keep on moving around you guys!!
Traveling in our small class C I can see how you may want to upgrade from your class B. On the other hand your class B must be great to drive from place to place. We just left Jackson WY. Beautiful area just a little cold right now. Your are going to have an Amazing summer traveling to all those places. Glacier is my “Katrina” favorite. Safe travels and enjoy your summer!😊
We are parttime campers. We will take a trip, deciding a couple places we want to go, usually national park and/or State Park and plan to stay at least a week in each place then return home. Last year we took a trip from Oregon to Tennessee, 4 months long, and will not do it again as it's not for me, and VERY expensive.
We completely understand not wanting to go on such long trips. When friends tell us we must be saving so much money we kinda giggle. It’s a job on its own just trying to stay on budget. Glad to hear you’re still traveling and enjoying yourselves whenever you can. Stay safe and have a wonderful summer.😊
We take 3 weeks a year and travel. This year we are 3 weeks in Myrtle Beach with our camper. We spend a week every year in our camper at Cedar point. Then we take extra days for Memorial Day and 4rh of July in our camper. Then we are mostly staying close to home weekend warriors even in the Michigan winters (skiing a few weekends a year) Everyone needs to stay at one location for 2 weeks it’s so much more relaxing. We used to do a week here and week there but during covid we ended up at Myrtle Beach for the first time and spend 3 weeks and it changed our lives. Now our main vacation is between 2.5 to 3 weeks. (Last year was 16 days in Maui)
We are going to be full timers starting in June. We haven't RV'd before, we are jumping in with both feet. We are done being cold living up here in northern New England. We plan on boondocking, COE and military bases.
The word "average" covers a lot of ground. I don't often pay close attention, but I think you were referring to weekends versus long, multi-week trips. We're fairly new to this, and both work full time, so probably right with you in the "below average" category. We quickly found out travel days don't count, so at the moment we're mainly setting up 4 day weekends somewhere in a 500 or so mile radius from home. So far our trips tend toward 4-8 weeks apart. Mostly lower cost state parks and small mom-n-pop parks, but willing to visit a more spendy location with a purpose. Either a meetup or some attraction we want to visit.
I looked at Missy and said, Han Solo’s dice on the milinium falcon, she looked at me like I was stupid… not a new look.. LOL !! I’d say we are average I guess. Weekends and some longer trips during the year !! Hope ya’ll are safe and having a blast.
I "Katrina" am with Missy on this one. Who in the world pays attention to those little details.🤪 I just don't get the whole Star Wars thing. Let's just say Chris and one of our sons are a little obsessed. You guys are above average part timers.😁 So far the trip has been amazing with all the beautiful scenery.
I have been watching a couple different channels that are full time RVers. I still have to work but trying to talk my wife into selling everything and buy a RV and just move around our local lake . She is coming on board pretty quick.
We are retired in our 60’s. We take the RV out about once a month. We do stay in nice places. We have 1-2 big long trips a year and fill in with rally travel in our state the rest of the time.
Very nice! If we could we would stay more often at the nicer resorts. Enjoy your retirement. I’m sure you guys worked hard for what you gave and deserve to enjoy your retirement. Safe travels.😊
I consider myself as a full time part timer. I have the month to2 month long trip per year. But I also spend a week a month at state parks and ACoE parks except for the month of December. I hope your trip to Alaska is going well. ❤
I can't believe how many people have not keyed in on Han's dice that he had hung in the Falcon. I won't turn this into a nerd fest dissertation over the gold dice, but we can be friends... I will say, our other summer obsession is showing our 57 Chevy Bel Air that we built for our dad, it does have the obligatory fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror. You can't go wrong with dice on the mirror! Fuzzy or gold! ;-) I'm a part timer but living here in Alaska, our season is too short to be anything else unless you Snowbird and head out and down south for the winter. This summer through a business decision from my former employer of many years, I have the luxury to use my RV more than I normally would. I just put the lithium batteries back in for the summer today and turned back on the solar. Tomorrow flush the tanks and lines to clear out the antifreeze and put the keurig back in and do a little spring cleaning. But am i an Average or below / above? I had to think about this one. To Alaska standards for local RVers, I'm above average or so I feel. I have no illusions that I have moved up to glamping and am quite comfortable in my rig with all the upgrades I have done. The affore mentioned solar and lithium was a total game changer. The onboard cellular network (just can't justify Star Link), 3000 watt inverter that can run everything, suspension upgrades to the trailer, the 12 volt pellet smoker and more. Locals don't usually go as far as I have. I try to get out and enjoy our short summers, both at the car shows and the campgrounds. When the weather is nice, Alaska can be spectacular. This is my 56'th summer starting up in Alaska. Its my point of origin and hopefully my destination. Though as I get older, I look forward to finding a way to retire and Snowbird with a RV to see America. Now am I an average RV'er down in the lower 48? Most all RU-vid content on the RV lifestyle that I have watched says I'm aspiring with a good toe hold. I have the desire, better than factory hardware, I just need to find that friendly slot machine in Vegas to finance a comfortable full time RV retirement. But until then, weekend warrior it is with a comfortable glamper. Things are thawing out and warming up in Anchorage. Not sure what your Itinerary for your drive up is, but its getting warmer. Overnights are finally above freezing, a couple more weeks and we should be in the 40's at night. Hopefully we have a much dryer summer than the last two for your adventure. I'm out camping rain or shine, but the shine is much more appreciated. The last two summers were fish chokers. So far this spring has been mostly sunny. Fingers crossed that we have more sun than rain!
That’s an amazing story. Thanks for sharing. Chris said email him anytime to discuss anything Star Wars related. Fingers crossed this summer isn’t a “fish chocker”!🤣🤣
We think the biggest question is what is considered full time. Some people say you have to live and travel in it with no going to a house or anything all year long but a lot of people consider what the insurance companies call full time which is a minimum of 6 months.it is like the propane debate.
Good discussion! We were part time for several years and went full time last year in our Class A. Sold the house and are having a great time. Enjoy the ride.
I’m not rving yet. Not what catagory I’m in? One day I’ll get an Rv and I’ll be part time. I’m trying to figure that one out. I do have a couple friends who live in their rvs. They love it. And they are retired. Great video! Thank you Chris and Catrina for this video. Great topic!
You guys are true RV'ers!!! We consider ourselves adventure seekers. 😂😂 My hubby and I have been rv'ing for a year - we pack and go when we feel like it for months at a time and don't stay in Florida (homebase) when we do... love it so much that we are crazy to have decided to launch our channel and join the RU-vid family next month. Hopefully, we get to meet all the wonderful RV'ers down the road... you, Chris and Katrina included.
I not sure what average would be but we may be above average for parttime RVing. Our parttime in a year is usually about 3-4 weekends with family and friends, 4 to 5 local trips of about 3-5 days each, 1 or 2 week long trips maybe 200-500 miles, and one 5-9 week trip covering thousands of miles. I usually don't get out from January and February but I use that time to do upgrades and fixes. One year, I want to do a FL / Southwest trip during the winter. RU-vidrs and Facebook have made it possible. You guys give us the confidence to get out there. If it weren't for content from RU-vid we would probably only car camp doing local trips with only 1 or 2 long trips (200-500 miles). We have seen and experienced so much more since we started RVing in 2019. Thank you. ❤
Absolutely love the way you guys rv. I would say you are above average part time RVers. You should be very proud of yourselves for making it happen. We too have learned so much from watching other channels. If not for then we probably wouldn’t have gone full time. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy summer.😊
Hey Chris and Katrina! I think the average RVer rarely uses their RV. We know so many people that have RVs and use them maybe a hand full of times a year and rarely anywhere far. I don’t get it. We are definitely an above average part timer (we say most timer 😂). And certainly you are above average full timer embarking on a trip to Alaska!! Safe travels! - Mike and Shelley
Thinking you guys might just be onto something about most part timers only using their rv's a few times a year. If embarking on our trip to Alaska makes us above average We'll take it!! Thanks for taking the time to watch. Safe travels and have an amazing summer!
I would say you're above average full timers. You stay in campgrounds and resorts. We are weekenders and do two trips a vear averaging 10 days each. Corp of engineer parks mostly, some state parks on weekends and KOA and resort on vacation. Tucker needs a video, "Tucker's Life""...
As new RVers, we purchased our travel trailer 11 months ago. We were able to go about 12 long weekends, 2 week long trips - all of these were within an 8 hour driving radius. We also took the entire month of Oct to explore the NE. We did have to work some from the road. So I don't know, I felt when compared to my friends and family we were super blessed 'above average' as we traveled more in 11 months than many of them have had the opportunity to do in many years!
We are weekend warriors working on full part time🤪 We’re in our mid fifties. Still working. We have all the things ready to go. Just need to sell our business and get gone! For now we take as many weekends as possible thru summer. We’re also in the north so we have winter and cold 6-7 months a year.
Part-timer here. We do a big trip of 2-3 weeks going on long trips (cross country). Then do long weekends a few more trips before winterizing for the winter (that's a sad day).
Good to see you two with good content, when I retire we want to travel for at least 6 months a year. We have two homes so sell one and travel just in case of trouble we have somewhere to go! I’m 68 so not sure of what I am.
Thanks, interesting topic... We are similar to you. I don't consider y'all full timers. Even if you don't own a home, you definitely have a "homebase" and come off the road for extended periods. We travel 75-80% of the year even though we still own a home. Our year typically includes a 5-6 month excursion trip with average stays of a week (not including overnight stops); as well as 2-4 destination trips of 4-6 week durations. The other 20-25% of the year is family and personal business time. Prefered campgrounds are NPS, NFS, CoE, BLM, State Parks, Regional\County\City parks, NGO\Utility Company parks and campgrounds. Last choice (under 20%) are commercial campgrounds. We have done yearly TT Camping Pass a couple times when the excursion trip was to TT prevelant areas and cost effective. Mixing in short boondocking stays and using NP Lifetime Senior discount as well as discounts in some State's Parks, our average nightly is under $30. I consider almost all (with a few exceptions) of our campground selections to have been above average to excellent. This nightly average can easily be reduced.
Thank you so much for sharing. Such great information! For us it's a work in progress. Always finding new ways of saving money but not loosing sight of why we chose this way of life. Living this way has so many benefits.
Sorry I cut myself off. We like our provincial parks (being Canadian). The lots are very large. Don’t always have power or water but they do have dump sites when you leave. We tend to camp during the week as we are retired so we leave the weekends for the families.
I'm just throwing this out there about the percentage of owners, Yes men own more, however thats needing to take into account that the age group is that of mostly male income based. Gen x and younger are a more equivalent ownership 🌼
We’re 65 and part timed with our motorhome’s for about 5 weeks out of the year. We’ve been retired now for a little over 2 1/2 years and kept our sticks and bricks and go for about 4 to six weeks now. We stay in rv parks for about a week at a time and just plan as we go. Simple. Come home for a bit then go again.
We may do the same one day. It's getting harder and harder to leave family behind. At the end of the day it's all good and we enjoy wherever we travel. Safe travels and enjoy your summer travels.
Nice! Wish we would have started earlier so we could have experienced things before they became so crazy busy/expensive. Thanks for sharing. Take care and enjoy your summer travels.
Not sure which category we are. Living in Mississippi, our weather is usually good from March until Early December. So we only put the camper away for 2-3 months max. During camping season we camp long weekends every other week and take 2-3 longer trips during the year. Usually a week in the summer and a week around Thanksgiving. This year we are going to the Keys for 9 days. Other than that we are staying within 2-3 hour drive from home. So what category are we?? Great video!!
That’s exactly what we were thinking! Can’t wait for the keys! Thanks again for a fun video! When we aren’t camping we are watching RV related RU-vid! :)
Well in that case I am in a sort of unique group... European traveling the 49 continental states of the US, 3 months a year and it will take us at least 2 more years to finish them all!! We've done 15 states ( the largest ones) in 2 trips.
We are weekenders from April through October We usually go to state parks or private camp grounds. I want to start trying some of those camping apps to look for new places❤
We have been rving for 25 years. We’ve done long trips and now we tend to do the short trips. I hate RV parks. They are very restrictive the lots are way to small, may as well stay home and look at the neighbours
We are getting ready to visit quite a few parks on the west coast this fall and hear they are very small. Hopefully we'll be able to find some nice state parks. We absolutely love state parks! Nothing wrong with short trips. Safe travels and enjoy your summer travels. 😊
How about families on the road living the RV life? I was shocked how many kids are being raised especially when we were at TTO this past winter. We home school our granddaughter and are part timers as retiree's.
Han solo dice we just got an rv and plan to do shorter trips for now but in the next couple years it will be long trips cross country visiting family. You guys are so funny. Love your videos
We like to do long weekends in the winter months if we can get a campsite, Then in the summer we like to take longer trips or camp at the beach for several weeks
Ok. What are we? Half of the year we spend on the road in our Rv and the other half parked in the north woods enjoying the summer. And comments are always good right?!
Well you know I (Chris) aka Captain Solo made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. It's a challenge because the Trend doesn't have the same Quadex power core. But I'm feeling confident, so the walking carpet will be happy to know the odds are in our favor.
Are you the average RVer? Be it part-time or full-time? Tell us what you think and leave a comment below. You can subscribe to our channel here...ru-vid.com/show-UCBxZGQHnISDesb9NFM3BsgQ
Ok. Fulltime rvers dont have a home base. What kind of fulltimer are you? Live on the road. Always on vacation. Working on the road. Definately not sitting at a home base for months.
We park on family property with out having a home of our own except the rv. We live in the rv full time even when visiting family in MD. Not on vacation or working on the road unless you consider having a RU-vid channel work. Last year was a little different as we had a lot of family events going on in one area. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. We very much appreciate it. Safe travels.
We can consider ourself as fulltimer/snowbirds. I know, it’s kind of weird. Sold everything 3 years ago, spent the summer at our seasonal site and move down south in the winter (1 month per resort).
