First Time Watching Goodfellas 1990 |
It's challenging for me to express the emotions I felt while watching this movie. I was deeply impressed and absorbed in the viewing experience because the director made it so immersive that you could almost smell it through the screen. The actors' performances were so vivid and impactful that I was constantly in this trance, deeply engaged in every scene. Wow, it gave me chills, and at times, it was genuinely scary. I understand that it's a real story brought to the screen.

Henry could never be a made man in the Mafia because he wasn't 100% Italian. He could only be what's called an "Associate". Same with the Robert Dinero character.

10/10 In one word: perfection Needs to be seen to be believed; in one word: perfection. Every frame, every voice-over, every song - it all comes together at the exact right moment to create the perfect film experience. This film makes you really understand and feel what makes the American mafia so compelling; in the eyes of a kid, who was unfortunate enough to grow up in a tough neighborhood, those gangsters are rock stars. Live fast, die young - but when you die, it ain't gonna be of a glamorous suicide or drug overdose - the ending will be brutal, ugly and sad. And it may very well be one of your best friends that will blow your brains out. I'll never get tired of watching Goodfellas; the entertainment value of this film is just amazing. It doesn't happen very often that every person involved in the process of making a film is at the peak of his/her game. And rarely do art and entertainment come together the way they did here. Storytelling with impeccable pacing, this is what it's like when a master composer conducts his masterpiece. All hail the king; the most versatile and talented filmmaker of his generation: Martin Scorsese.

Scorsese should've won Best Picture and Best Director for "Goodfellas" ("Dances with Wolves" won both that year). Either this or "Raging Bull". That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Him "winning" for "The Departed" in 2006 was a makeup award for all the times he should've won.

Hey Emma! My favorite scene is the one shot of Henry and Karen entering the nightclub. There were no edits and handled with one camera. It was magnificent blocking and choreography. That's the brilliance of Martin Scorsese in a nutshell. You would love any number of other films by him. Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro also star in Marty's famous "Raging Bull." Pesci is actually mostly sympathetic in that movie. Pesci is also very funny in the Lethal Weapon films 2 through 4.

There's a mobster mentioned in this movie, Michael Franzese. He's part of the Columbo crime family, now ex mobster and yotuber. He also reviews Mobster movies. He reviewed this movie and said an interesting story. You might be interested.

Everything about the Batts murder was true, aside from the welcome home party and the shinebox remark happening at a different place a few weeks prior to the actual murder. They really went to the real Tommy's house and his mother made them a meal, all the while Batts was still alive in the trunk of the car. The murder of Spider was 100% accurate. In all truth, the only huge difference between Pesci and the real Tommy was that he was twice as big as Pesci

If you want to see a Martin Scorsese movie that has absolutely NOTHING to do with organized crime (unless you consider the music industry "organized crime,") check out his movie, "The Last Waltz." This is a movie that shows (what was supposed to be) the final concert of the band named "The Band." Leading up to this final concert, "The Band," which was made up of one American and four Canadians, was at one time, one of the biggest bands in the world! It's a fantastic concert movie that features many incredible musical artists, including Ronnie Hawkins, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, The Staples, Muddy Waters, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and others! This is one of the best concert movies ever recorded.

Another good non-mob film from Scorsese is his 1997 biography of the youth of the current Dalai Lama, 'Kundun'. Beautifully filmed, with a great soundtrack from Philip Glass.

40:07 - the way DeNiro says "oh don't worry about that" like it's some minor inconvenience when he's just killed a human being is a great way to show how fucking deranged he is! And at 40:15 - when they say that Tommy is going to "get made" - that means he's going to be a fully fledged member of La Cosa Nostra which essentially makes Tommy untouchable! And because Jimmy and Henry had Irish blood then they could never be made which is why Henry says "With Tommy being made, it was like we were all being made..."

Joe Pesci's character was toned down for the film - I read one story where Henry Hill and Tommy DeSimone are walking down the street... Tommy spots a civilian (who has done absolutely nothing wrong)...Tommy goes..."Hey Henry, watch this!" And then he shoots the stranger in the head for NO REASON! Henry asked him why he did it and Tommy said "cos I'm a cold hearted motherfucker..." I've got the biggest soft spot for the Mafia BUT i always say there's bad eggs in the Mafia like Tommy DeSimone and Roy Demeo especially! A lot of people just see the bad with the Mafia but I'd rather be ruled by them than our governments! They're more honest! 😂❤

Apparently the only reason Jimmy didn't kill Henry is because he wasn't asking for a share of the robbery! And apparently one story is that Billy Batts was a good friend of none other than John Gotti! And apparently one story is that John Gotti "took care" of Tommy DeSimone himself by shooting him underneath a table! I've heard several stories! That's just one of them! ❤

2 other must see mob movies, Casino and A Bronx Tale! All 3 are partially true, the last one...the main star, its his story growing up! A lot of these actors in the other two movies, and the series, The Sopranos!
