Excerpted from the following dialogue: What is Misunderstood about Self Enquiry, Ramana Maharshi's Most Direct Teaching, and More... • What is misunderstood ... #selfenquiry #ramanamaharshi #advaita #happiness #francislucille
The possible mistake is to take the approach to inquiry (asking the question in words such as "what am I", "what am I") to be the reality of inquiry. We start with the words, then we let go of all words. We let go of knowing anything at all and 'listen to' or 'rest in' the "not knowing" which is non-verbal aka the energy of silence. We are waiting to 'die before we die'. This is letting the energy of silence or not knowingness to absorb me into presence or non-verbal not-knowing. We start by being active by using words to ask. Then we allow ourselves to 'die' into the not knowingness.
