Wow ! Emotional trauma is a real thing and sometimes you can definitely carry it without knowing . Dorrie , I respect how you still opened yourself up to love again. I think it’s okay to continue to tell your story and let it all out . Healing with someone provides so much strength and stability . Maybe you both can go to counseling together . Either way , y’all are so dope 🤎!

Dorrie I think sometimes we can be over something or someone but the tears come from the fact that we even allowed certain things to happen or be done to us. So in other words we sometimes cry for our old self. Great conversation and yall know I'm here for it. Peace, love and blessing 💛

Their is nothing like being able too share your past with someone you love and it’s not used against you too hurt you later. I love how you two stand ten toes down for each other no matter what. #What’sUpWednesdays

“What up Wednesday” was enlightening this week. My former pastor once told the congregation at some point in your life you will need to talk to a therapist to help you heal from some situation. It will make you a stronger person and enhance your relationships (spouse, family, friends, etc).

This is just rare... How we the audience just engaged on your pureness.. Just the eye to eye engagement. Its not about us, but it is.. We are the watchers! This is just pure and rare but to bring reality to a positive relationship.. It's healthy to talk things out, even if it may be uncomfortable. Man, I'm just loving y'all more with just content... Smh!! Just really tasteful..

Loved that y’all can sit in front of each other and talk about anything, and that y’all listen to each other, that’s pretty awesome. I’m taking it all in so the next time I’m in a relationship it will last longer then before. Thanks for the encouragement. 🌈❤️🙏🏾

Thanks for being open about this. couples tend to sweep this subject under the rug. you both need a space to purge the past. i dont know your views on counseling, but talking to someone that is not connected to you allows space to be open and get it all out. that way you dont feel like you have to hold back, because it may bother the other person.

Dorrie have you thought about speaking to a psychologist. I mean no harm just to speak about your past and anything that trouble you. Our past has a lot to do with how we handle situations. I mean no harm asking that question.

Sometimes we need individual counseling/ therapy. Everyone has a past that did not include their present partner. The present partner shouldn’t be a part of your individual healing. You can grow together once you heal separately. Some things should be said to someone who will be more objective. A professional would be more of a sounding board that will absorb more than they wring out. Maybe both of you could benefit from individual counseling as well as couples counseling. Just a thought.

Once again.....another beautiful real conversation... relatability on point for so many of us. So glad that Brittney said she would listen to whatever Dorrie wanted or needed to share. That's love, when you think of your spouse before yourself. I tell my wife pretty must everything...she's my safe place to fall...well God and her. Thank you for always keeping it real on these What's Up Wednesday's! Shalom!

Individual therapy is a great help. Dory & Brittany, not one or the other. Makes you explore thoughts/emotions and helps with communication. Helps you to see things you don't see or how you are perceived by others.

I enjoyed both parts. These are conversations that all couples should have. Our past and family relationships hurt us more than most other things in life. Sometimes we mask issues for so long that our mental stability is at risk. It took me years to understand the reward of addressing the past and how it affects your present. Great conversation, I really enjoyed it. Keep it coming. ❤️❤️❤️🌈🌈🌈

Taylor Embry I’m going to agree with a lot of other comments and say some times just to protect your relationship from insecurities and bad energy it can be better to speak to a professional about your past relationships. If you recognize that they impact you to a point that you are unable to resolve on your own, then I think it’s a good idea to seek help. I actually just heard of this site called therapy for black girls and you just type in your zip code and they’ll help you find someone. I think EVERYONE can benefit from therapy in some way. I agree with you both that it’s important for your partner to know your triggers, so that’s a great place to start with the conversation between you two which actually goes along with yesterday’s question regarding relationship rules. Most of the rules I have had for my relationships were a result of my past ones and from identifying what went wrong. Dorrie, I’m praying for you and your healing, and same to you Brittney. I’m sure your loyalty to your marriage and each other will cultivate a space to heal and forget and just let go.

Both of you guys are Queens. Gods precious daughters. At some point in life each one of us has experienced an unhealthy relationship that caused brokeness. As women we are so use to being strong. We suppress things only to realize certain things may retrigger emotions from the experience. We have to free. You have to pull that mess from roots. A therapist would be awesome. Praying and forgiveness.

Your past relationships shaped you into the way you are. Sometimes, however, it's better to keep them behind you not load pressure on your current relationship. Sometimes going to a therapist is the only way to get a closure on your past.
