Wow, truly blown away by your INSPIRING inspirational speech. Ever considered following in the footsteps of MLK? Prime example of American jingoism. That's right, you learnt a big work today!
I love the theme tune, and have my own lyrics: "Are you smarter than a ten year old? Their knees are scabby and they're very bold They wear shorts even in the cold. Are you smarter than a ten year old?
I have to admit, that first one amused the fuck outta me. "Pig" is "Puerco." "Kitchen" is "Cocina." Don't get me wrong, I don't fault her for getting that one wrong, but I was just captivated by that one in a car wreck sort of way.
And we may certainly expect a teacher to have such a developed base of general knowledge that she knows at least the zodiac signs. How ordinary or arbitrarily that might seem to any of us.
Except it's not how arbitrary it seems, it is entirely objectively arbitrary and the only reason you think that it is more important she knows that list of names over another is that you know that list of names.
fireburn95rs I'm from Ireland and we never learned any foreign language like Spanish or French in primary school the only 2 languages we learned were English and Irish so same here
the questions were so frickin easy. i knew it was "car" because i'm filipino, and coche means car in the filipino language also, since the spanish invaded the phillipines. also, zodiac signs are so easy to spell O__O
@Rowan07001484 I remember at that age we were taught a bit about star-signs and obviously had to write them down. Stuff like spelling hieroglyphics only throws me off now because I tend to spell those words ei instead of ie (I'm a bit dyslexic). But at that age I would have gone by the "golden rules" ect. Also, when you learn about numbers in like Year 3, you learn about units, tens, hundreds, tenths ect. and don't associate the word unit to the thing you put after the number.
I neither know how many there are nor could I name them all, and that is the same for practically everybody. And what a ridiculous thing to say "Ignorance is never an excuse anyway" there is more words in any language than is possible to know and just because you know the star signs doesn't mean for some arbitrary reason that it is more important to know that than say the name of every known fundamental particle. Neither is more important than the other yet I'm willing to bet you don't know.
@Rowan07001484 No they aren't. At that age I would have probably known all the answers. But you forget some things and don't necessarily take in everything you learn. For instance when the question came up saying how many units in this four-digit number, the first thing I thought of was the thing you put after the number ie. grams, cm^3 ect. It didn't cross my mind until she mentioned it that the first digit numbers are called the units.
@Rowan07001484 Fine. I would have gotten most of those questions right if I was 10. Apart from the Spanish (because I wasn't taught it). But stuff like the spelling of Sagittarius was one of those things that I would have probably known but no longer know. Mainly because it has no actual relevance to anything or anyone.
Oh c'mon be real. Even if you do not believe in it, you've heard of it and know the signs. I don't believe it either but I do know the names in my native language and the languages I've learnt later. It's just common knowledge. There's really no good excuse. Just know your language. Ignorance is never an excuse anyway.
That's a very bad excuse. Originally it's a Latin word indeed, but there's no other word used for that particular zodiac sign in English. It is a very commonly word, open a news paper or a life style magazine and you'll find a freaking horoscope.
Lol. You make me laugh. I just saw a couple of spelling and grammar mistakes in your response, too. Also, America does have obesity, but it's not like you see it that often. Most of us AREN'T stupid, otherwise we wouldn't be the highest global economy, even though China will be, go China! XD But Americans can be kinda trampy ;P
@jettadonner Normally I don't reply to comments, but i feel i have to make an exception with you. I was going to delete your post but after reading it again I think people need to know what a truly messed up world we live in. I have no idea why you need to vent so much anger or its just a case of spamming? but seriously why not use the web to educate yourself with knowledge of others and the world they inhabit? rather than just gob off?
@Rowan07001484 Without sounding smug, maybe that's just me. I know that me or most of my friends at that age would have gotten most of those questions right. I know other people who are so thick they really can't even string together a coherent sentence.
Despite this being two years ago I feel the need to reply that either form: cleverer or more clever is acceptable. If the word was 'famous' for example then you would be correct.
I think a translation is in order: Stop the intercourse up female dog American is better an all your intercourse show[s] are the [worst.] The American [got?] Talent is greater than the British got Talent [Britain's got Talent] Loser and British for the are you smarter than a 10 year old and are you smarter than a 5th [Grader?] is better [in my opinion.] American Idol is better than British Idol [which is the?] worse British show are loser American show Winner I tried-it still makes no sense D:
