Are you surprised Senators will likely hire Travis Green? | Jay on SC 

The Sens finally had a chance to get this right and they blew it. This guy will not get them anywhere.

Why would this surprise anyone? Literally all the NHL does is recycle coaches.

As a Sens fan, Im done. The more things change in the dumpster fire the more they stay the same. New ownership is as clueless as the old one.....

I think the Senators missed the ball with this one. New ownership had the opportunity to make a big splash in hiring a new head coach to get fans excited about this new chapter in its franchise and instead brought in a coach with a losing record and horrible optics from the last weeks of coaching the Canucks. As a fan, I am trusting Staios here but the hiring doesn’t bode well for my optimism going into next season.

this is what bad teams and organisations do they keep hiring bad coaches with poor track records --there is nothing on Green's coaching resume that would justify this hire so it can only be an assessment of how bad the available options are or how dumb the Sens are.

Surprise hire? Awful hire.

Canuck fan here and I gotta say I feel for tue Sens seeing that they're the other team I cheer for, I just don't think this is a good hire. I hope I'm wrong I really do.

Am I surprised? No. The NHL is a big club and once you're in, you're in. Green is a prime example. He has a career losing record, yet he still gets hired. Rick Bowness coached seven different teams throughout his career. Mike Babcock was fired by the Leafs, everyone knew what he was about, yet he was hired by Columbus only to crash and burn. He'll be back though. We all know how this will go. Green will be in Ottawa for a few years, the team will overachieve for a season, then dip and he will get fired. Maybe the GM will go first, maybe not. Wash, rinse, and repeat. Honestly, if I were publicly fired as many times as some of these dudes have been I'd find a new career. But nowhere I've worked offers the level of job security that being an NHL made man does.

Very strange, considering that Travis Green and Tom Fitzgerald were teammates on the Islanders in the early 1990s. What does it say when Fitzgerald doesn't want to hire his interim coach with the Devils, who was a former teammate? Wondering what went down.
