Holiday in Tenerife? Are Golf del Sur and Los Abrigos worth staying at?

In early May of 2023, Heather and I enjoyed a short holiday in Tenerife. We stayed all inclusive for three nights at the five star Barceló Hotel, by Golf del Sur, close to the fishing village of Los Abrigos.
This was our first visit to the Canary Islands, the first time we had booked a package holiday, it was our first stay at a five star hotel, and our first all inclusive holiday.
The five star Barceló Hotel was wonderful. Originally, we had booked full board but when we arrived we upgraded to all inclusive.

48 hours before our departure, TUI emailed us a warning about potential disruption due to construction work happening near the hotel. Considering how much we much had paid for a little self-indulgent five star luxury, I was more than a little annoyed. However, it was too late to make alternative arrangements, so we persevered.
When we first arrived at the hotel we asked reception for a room away from any noise. We needn't have worried; while two tall cranes overlooked the far side of the hotel complex, during our stay we heard no noise from the building work. The Golf del Sur is only 10 km away from the airport, a short bus ride to the hotel, but again any noise there was, from the planes flying overhead, didn't present a problem .
The all inclusive package included breakfast, lunch, evening meal, snacks, both soft and alcohol drinks (local brands), and cocktails. During our stay, we ate our meals from the buffet restaurant but there is also an à la carte restaurant, which is not included as part of the all inclusive package. The choice and quality of food available was excellent. Heather is a vegetarian and she found plenty to eat. I enjoyed several Mojitos by the pool.
Our en-suite room had a private balcony; we sat outside in the afternoon and relaxed in the sun. I set my camera up overnight on a tripod to capture the night sky and the moon transitioning across the night sky.
The nearby fishing village of Los Abrigos is only an easy few minutes walk from the hotel. There are several bars and restaurants, and you can swim safely in the harbour.
The volcanic lava beach is just in front of the hotel. The wind during our stay was quite strong in the afternoons and the waves crashed in from the Atlantic Ocean.
Heather and I have no reservation in recommending Golf del Sur in Tenerife for a holiday. If you are a family with teenagers, perhaps you might prefer staying by a livelier spot in Tenerife. However, for a couple looking for a quiet break, or a family with small children, then the Barcelo Hotel is perfect.
