My male cats does that but the female will get on my bed (only near bedtime) and waits for me to got to bed but once I do I briefly brush her and then pet her and then she will lay next to me for about a half hour until she feels loved and secure and then she goes to her bed. She will wait hours if I am up too late. Sometimes she comes back but only briefly.

I live alone but before adopting her, my cat didn't offer the same kind of attention to anyone she demands from me :) And she grew close to me really fast :o To me, she is more of a companion than just a pet! Always sleeps next to me or between my legs, purrs when near me, butts her head and rubs herself against me and demands rubs by tapping my chest with her paw :3 Sometimes she even lays down across my shoulders when I play video games xD

That is like my male cat, Bob. He was hiding under his bed the whole time at the shelter where I volunteered but every week I would lift it and pet him and he would purr LOUDLY. For this and other reasons I did a foster to adopt. It only took two weeks and I was sold on him. I could have been quicker but I already had the female cat and it took about that long to fully introduce them even though he was wondering about the house after a week. I would let him out of the guest bedroom when she was in the master bedroom and this let them do the door sniff and then he would explore the rest of the house. Now he is my best friend and real lovebug. The only thing he like more then my petting is when she cleans his head. Sometimes when she is cleaning herself he will insert his head near her for grooming too. She sometime declines and other times indulges him.

I sleep on my back just to please her, even though I wake up with a back ache!😹 And then there's the whiskers up the nose because she needs to snuggle so close to my face..... Makayla Serniotti my newest kitty likes to sleep on my head. Like literally on top of my head like a four legged hat. He doesn’t like me to sleep more than a couple of hours at a time. He must think I’m dead since he checks on me by standing on my boobs, presumably to test my ouch reflex😂 i should probably add that he’s 14 lbs and very long so it’s a bit like someone throwing a bowling ball at your chest while you’re napping. I’m not sure but I may be developing furballs from inhaling cat hair while I sleep. The things we do for love is right!

When I bathe my cat sits on the toilet, which is right next to it. Every time I open a new product, e.g. a shower gel, he bats it with his paw so he can sniff it. It’s as if he’s checking that it’s okay before I use it.

gill426 Eventually she will become attached to you, just give it time. The fact that she'll let you touch her at all is a good sign. My friend had a similar experience to you, btw. It took two years for his cat to realize she actually liked him, and now, he's definitely her favourite.

Treats, more specifically the one treat she absolutely loves. Just randomly come up and give her one whenever. If you give her a lot make sure it's balanced with her diet. You might try feeding her canned food on a spoon. This way she associates you with food and pleasure. After she eats the first bit see if she will meow or otherwise look to you for more of her favorite food. That way she associates it with you. Mostly just give it some time and maybe do some research on cat behavior issues since I'm not an expert. Oh and to some extent give her some space unless she comes to you. But if she doesn't come then you will probably need to slightly force the issue. By calling her for canned, playtime, or just finding her and talking to her like to a baby. Especially spend time near her but letting her have her space while you do other things as well as gently talking to her every so often. Eventually she should settle down with you. But I wouldn't be surprised if she tends to mostly like only you. Good luck.

You could call her shelter and ask for advice on how to get her settled.

Try using the slow blink generously. Blinking slowly is one of the best ways to help a cat to trust you. One cat that had been scared of people learned to trust me enough to let me pet him for extended periods after a month or two. After a couple more months, he was cuddling with me on my bed. All the way through, I encouraged him to trust me by slowly blinking at him. I share that story because it shows just how powerful the slow blink can be for helping a cat to trust you. I'd imagine as well that any anxiety you have is making your cat more anxious. Try a short meditation or prayer or whatever helps calm you down to relieve that anxiety before you face the cat. If you're not anxious, she will be less anxious.

As someone else said, give it time. I also adopted my cat from a shelter and the first weeks he huddled under my bed or my sofa. Now he is glued to me most of the time. My piece of advice, be there. Be around and go about your day. Let your cat come to you. If she is hiding and you can reach her, try petting her where she is. A place she feels safe and in control.

My female is the baby and likes being held or sometimes brushed but the male is more of a kitten, even his meow is kitten-like, and he loves to snuggle or play.

Not evil at all dunna why anyone would think that. However, badly socialized is definitely part of it. I agree with the video that a good middle ground is best for a cat. It's not healthy or safe for anyone, even humans to only have one other being they trust and love. It means that if you need to leave for even an hour, during that hour the cat likely feels terrified. It's fine for a cat to show preferential or special treatment to one or another, but hating everyone else isn't that great for a cat. Given his emotional trauma, extra care should be taken to let others know of their condition and always create really positive relations to any situation involving anyone else. While it's always a special feeling to be the only one someone trusts, it's not a healthy thing in the long run, for any animal.

When I went to go visit family for Christmas I left my cat for a month and my sister ended up sending me a video of her crying as she paced outside my door for ten minutes. My cat even went outside trying to look for me even though she hates going outside and gets terrified when I take her out, once she realized I wasn’t outside she went back inside. When I came back from the trip she hid from me for four hours, and then afterward did not leave my side 😂 and was persistent. At some point she slept curled around my head😭💛💛

When my brother left home one of my cats left a gift of all his toy mice outside his door. It was like a tribute to him. I think he was really sad about it.
