I will say, accepting a match once found is common in games like DotA 2, which prevents people from loading into a match afk, leading to a 5v4. An accept button means everyone is present. However in DotA there is a penalty for not accepting the match, such as a 15 min timeout (on ranked)
Yeah problem is people can still afk during the loading time as well. Lots of high level Dora players used to have to queue for 40 minutes or more to get into a match with people of comparable skill.
@@screwlose fortunately tarkov shouldn’t have that matchmaking problem with an extremely limited player pool in the highest ranks, the skill cap in DotA is a lot higher. problem with arena matchmaking is the map loading times, which ideally should load while concurrently matching (not sure if it does that atm) to reduce waiting times.
@@FeartheLess Tarkov's loading code is mostly single-threaded, watch your CPU usage spike on a single core when you load data. The other issue is that uploading data to the GPU is expensive and slow and usually cannot be multithreaded, so most developers just make their game load in a single-thread. For them to change this the game needs to load assets/data across multiple concurrent threads then remerged the threads at the end to allow GPU calls to be made safely. But hey I'm just one of Nikita's hated customers who has years of game making experience, no one special or anything.
@@FeartheLessYou can't load the map concurrently while matchmaking because you haven't been placed on a server instance yet. Yes, BSG could decouple the static map resources from anything relying on the server, but this would be a huge rewrite to the way the game loads data and I doubt they'll ever do it.
the Accept button, pestilly, is normal in most games with ranked, like league of legends or valorant. Its to stop people who are AFK from jumping into a match and being AFK for the first round or two. It makes sense, but it normally in those games, doesnt kick EVERYONE out. It would kick that person and re queue everyone.
yeah, I feel if this wasn't a feature in the game then people would complain about people being afk for the first round and would be asking for this feature.
they could at least add in an option where if you accept but somebody else doesn't, everyone who accepts gets auto requeued, so you dont have to manually restart every time. also it would be nice to just select your class on the main menu and whenever you click to join a match it locks that in so you dont even need the 90 second timer.
For the arm bands, they should just pick a color for enemy and a color for team, maybe you can choose yourself, and have that be what is shown on your screen every time. There's no need for there to be a different color ever.
lmao you people cant just take 1 second to see what team you are on this community is such a joke its no wonder bsg just fucks with you guys at this point
I think the ideal loadout system would include a sort of currency you can spend on weapons, attachments, and meds, and reaching higher ranks in ranked would increase the currency cap. that way, we’d see low tier loadouts early in a ranked career, and higher tiered kits later into the ladder.
A simple fix for voip is just add "Radio's" to every preset and use that as a method of voice chatting to teammates, maybe even make a separate bind so you can still use proximity chat, they could make it so that your voice over the radio sounds realistic maybe not, but in terms of realism you'd atleast have a radio to speak to people your with and or the people back in base giving orders, in my opinion its a very simple fix and I don't think it'll require much time at all and they'll still retrain that realism factor.
@@LeXxXGaming most of this vid is him just mad that some qol things arent in the game and some things are just really nit picky hired ops is fun but its nothing near arena idk why ur acting like its buggy af and unplayable when its running over 100fps on 1440p on medium and he prob has an rtx so running at medium is pointless and if he has rtx off thats free fps lost also most comp games are played at 1080p fyi so if u play on 1080 you might hit near 200fps even tho the human eye cant see 200fps
This is what they've been working on instead of the single player experience campaign (similar to the stalker games) that they promised they would release within a few years.
Genuinely don’t know why people who just paid for arena and streamers get access to arena before us, who’ve played the game since before you had animations for healing. BSG just doesn’t care about the players.
capture point in the middle of the map makes so so SO much sense. You solve two problems, having to run across the map to defend a point AND having to have external events occur to push remaining players towards the center to fight each other.
The accept button is a really good feature because it prevents players from being AFK. That's why every e-sports game has it like this (CS:GO/CS2; League of Legends; Dota 2; Valorant) to name a few.
Thank you for at least acknowledging the lack of access for EOD contributors. Just feels a bit questionable that if I were to have bought arena standalone today I’d be playing right now, call it marketing or maybe they’re protecting newer players from getting stomped by 5k hour players, but there are a thousand more effective ways of doing that than gate keeping the game. People want to say servers, load times, etc… these shouldn’t be issues in the first place. Increase server space on launch as many companies do. People wonder why they won’t release on steam and its because between the incompetency sometimes seen from the dev team and scummy business tactics (not illegal, just misleading), they may be held accountable in the form of a cohesive community voice (reviews), but since there is no unified community voice they don’t feel repercussions for how they treat their community by a lack of sales or growth. Looks fun and will wait my turn but will be hard to monetarily support this dev team with any future games as they have great ideas but are typically half-assed in execution and 0 respect for their community.
I see it way different. If you biy arena now you should get it because nobldy wants to biy a game with the tag "access in 1-10 days". Bit eod have it for free and you dont get hurt by just waiting couple lf days. I dont really knlw where these people get the idea of the longest eod owner gets access first
Yeah, I see both sides... I just think if its called a CBT (closed beta test) then the people who have supported your game and developing studio for years should get first access. I don't necessarily understand the need for the waves in the first place, apart from server space, which I don't see as being a remotely acceptable reason. Obviously BSG doesn't profit by giving access to people who paid them five years ago so from a business side I can understand the incentive to allow new sales first access, just feels a bit scummy. They could care less though so its just yelling into the void but people have a right to do so in my opinion.@@flintenberger8122
Giving instant access to new standard account purchases feels like a downright scam. We were promised "exclusive access" to arena in the EoD description and that turned out to be a complete lie
TBH, it makes Sense from a Selling Point of view. And you will get Acces with EoD, it obviously will take some time. If they let everyone in at the Same time, no one Could play.
They could literally make it so that you're always on blue team. It's only rendered on your side so the other team could think they're blue but rendered is red on your screen. And frankly that would help with the sight impaired players
I understand your complaint about the Accept button, but I only think that it is an issue because the queue is bugged and you have to get out to requeue again. Accepting is the norm in competitive games. Especially in higher ranks, queues can get a bit long and people can leave the PC for one reason or another and forget to exit the queue. It's better to wait a few more seconds after someone misses an accept, than starting a game with an AFK, imo. But again, it's really dumb that you have to requeue manually instead of just remaining in the queue after someone declines.
Should have done a in match economy system akin to something like counter strike. Would have created a lot of variety in games and solve the balance issues.
Genuinely am impressed how you still have the energy to play it at all, i gave up just over a year ago after doing the quests 20 odd times. Quests need to be completely re done i think
I always thought that they should have gone the route of trying to integrate a Counterstrike like economy system with rounds and purchasing weapons, armor, meds etc. Add an objective to complete and places to loot for extra cash and bam u have a great esports foundation. As is I feel its pretty weak, especially talking about esports. EDIT: Just finished watching the vid and very happy to see Pest agree. This CoD 3 base presets is really hindering the potential.
came here to drop a comment to say that direct comms to your team via voice is possible with the radio feature, default key to use it is "J" instead of the default voip key "K" by coincidence i came across a short from another youtuber that included this as a tip
8:01 instead of removing it. Have people who accept stay in queue when someone don't accept or decline, the time instead of 30 sec have it is 10 - 20 sec and decline buttom to people who didn't mean to queue up
So on the topic of people not accepting the ready check, its actually bugged and sometimes it wont accept you, it will show 0/10 and 00:00 waiting timer and just sit there until it finally backs everyone out.
I do believe his gripe about the Accept button when queuing up is a personal gripe because most other ranked games in a similar position like Arena has this, like CS2. Also loading times being long is a Tarkov issue all together.
better that way rather then wasting 15 min in a game with someone afk.. or someone who trolling just because they want to que with their friend.. at least it give the option for people who queing by mistake to at least not put in game where they would be forced to play. remember the accept button is a way for them to know you not afk in a que. @@doppelganger8252
One thing I noticed when playing arena was that there is not a battle rating for the kits thus meaning you can just get matched up with people running zebralo and altyn while you have a lowly kedr
I hope they change the way ARP works. A loss on the 5v5 tdm is -25, a win is +25, your personal performance doesn't matter from my experience. You need to win 20 consecutive matches to get from 1500 (what you start with) to 2000 (the next rank) thats honestly insane especially when you're playing with randos. Unranked should've been in from the start, it shouldn't cost or give money but it should give XP for your kits, perhaps at a reduced amount (if they truly wanted to be sadistic).
Based not on the rollout but the games ive played i really liked the gameplay. Its really fun and rewarding. I dont really understand progression and kits though. My biggest complaint is being unable to change loadouts inbetween rounds. Playing one class for 9 rounds is annoying
I think it is nuts there is stuff like ap ammo in this lol . Arena should have been something only certain ammo was in and only certain armor . Putting people with good ammo and lvl 4 armor against people with bad ammo and lvl2 armor isn't an esport . That's crazy .
@@DummyThinksThoughts Asymmetry can exist in an esport competitive shooter even if that hasnt been the case in shooters before this (mostly). Lets not be so close-minded on whats possible and so on. Sure, it needs to be changed from what it is now, but not removed entirely.

As for the "Glorified mobile game" feel, I have agreed from the start, and felt like some of that feel has been creeping into the base game of late. A lot of the menus feel very mobile/browser centric and even the new icons for new and a few old items in the base game just seem so much lower quality and just oddly modeled like the Glock 19 and the new Chinese rigs. And everyone I play with called me crazy for feeling like that. Haha.
100fps for a top of the line PC is embarrassing. They really need to optimise their games more. I would love to see a hard point game mode and not just a one life mode

They're gonna wipe Arena with the whole game in a week, so no biggie. Plus matching will be relative power not super chads vs timmy geared… this is a great way to avoid for arena, the long cues of the annual wipe. Though BSG really should already temp rent double the servers for new year's month of Jan…
In terms of the team balance I've heard the game Warthunder has a good system for it. You have modern and old vehicles, so it is of course unfair to pair a WW2 Stuka against a modern F22, so what the game does is that depending on the vehicles you use you have a certain power level, and you get paired with people on the same power level or as close as possible to you. Arena could try something similar, the higher the tier of your equipment the enemy team will be on similar ground
With the presets they should set values for each preset (worst preset being 1) and have it so a team will only play against teams with the same value of team (could also equalise so no singular team member can have more than a difference of 2 in preset quality) just my 2 cents
Having to accept the match again once found is good since it avoids AFK people from getting into matches. While you might say that why afk when queue times are like 30-40 seconds. My answer to that is that when the Arena craze starts to dip or the Ranked ladder balances out by spreading out the playerbase, the loading times will go to 1-3 minutes or even longer. Considering the matches aren't gonna be long since its a bo9 system and each round lasts less than a minute, I'd rather wait 30 seconds and timeout rather than wait 90 seconds for the game to pick a preset for the 1 afk person in the lobby. Picking a preset after finding a match, yea this is annoying currently but maybe this design choice was made intentionally for the players benefit. This is purely hypothetical but future features might make you able to view your opponents/teammates kits and pick accordingly. Maybe see which preset has how much game time and what results did the player have with it. In this instance it would kinda make sense to add the feature now than later. In the case where there are multiple possible objective spots. You should be informed on which of the spots goes live beforehand. Like for the sawmill, from the start of the match until the objective going live the spot should be marked with a distinguishable flare color. That should solve the issue. If you have gripes that it forces you into the side of the map with the objective then there are obvious ways around this strategy. in a 1v2 situation, the lone person should not have the agency to stall out the match. All in all this gamemode as it stands now is quite inbalanced and not at all esport ready. Starting from the presets system following up with the inbalance in the maps and ending with the matchmaking system.
damn fine view, I appreciate your insight, honesty and humility, by far my favorite streamer hands down.... have a fine day brother and thank you again

@@noir1923JK ;) anyway on more serious note, I find arena to show how artificial / Arcade movement modelling is compared to other shooters… I hope it can improve
Warthunder *solved* the issues with more or less capable vehicles with “battle ratings” (obviously it has problems of its own) but I think that’s a great way to let kedrs fight kedrs instead of a MK-47 with BP.
I'm sure there are classes without painkillers but it was funny that the one you showed and said didn't have a painkiller while it had an adrenaline in the pocket haha
So, from what I understand, there's room for a lot of improvement, and the CBT is not working properly, so even if I got the EOD edition 2 years ago, I might be accepted after 2 more weeks.
It's a Beta. They NEED the feedback, so they can improve the game. Also, THANK YOU for mentioning that anything is fun with friends. I make the point so many times when my mates try to get me to play some shit game, but glad to hear someone else say it.
Selecting a class before matching would make this game a godsend. I'm level 5 using sp8 against people who've been playing for 50 hours already with automatic AK's with m856a1. Dropped 300k in about 2 hours. Also wtf was bsg thinking starting everyone out at the same rank lol and only being allowed to play ranked. Sure fire way to screw the entire mmr in your game for the first few weeks
The whole mentality that if someone plays more they should get better kit and stats does nothing but serve the ego of a few people who can't handle competition on an even footing.
it's just starting the beta right? We can't possibly think they would have nailed on the first try. I'm sure they will address all of this throughout the beta testing phase.
In terms of armbands, friendly armbands ALWAYS need to be blue, enemy armbands ALWAYS need to be red. At least to you. The technology is there like wtf BSG
Later I hope they add a "Support" category that includes loadouts with more emphasis on medical and equipment. The ability to heal allies would also be huge.
The matches are really damn quick... Sometimes I don't even have time to heal myself fully because of how little time I have to contest the point or else But if for example they would finally add it to main game, then having the feature in arena as well would be vital, because otherwise it would be dumb, even if it takes a lot of time
I have perhaps a much more limited issue with arm bands. There are a lot of loadouts that have blue or brown shirts. I’m colourblind. If I’m shooting blue in a match, there are loadouts with blue/purple shirts that’s confuse tf outta me. Same goes for red arm bands on brown shirts. I cannot distinguish them
13:00 BSG's immersion argument is so stupid. With Discord, this argument becomes completely obsolete and now the only thing BSG is doing is throwing a tantrum like a 5 year old that doesn't want to eat its vegetables. Same thing with the ingame maps. Everyone uses a second monitor or tabs out to look at a map. So everyone has access to one, but adding one in-game as a QOL is treated like the plague.
also Idont have time for tarkov anymore , military and college, and was looking foward to be able to play again with crossprogression being my saviour. That however has not been the case since there isnt any. I was hoping for at the very minimum xp cross progression but nope nothing zit nothing, very frustrating.
I mean if yall expected Arena to be anything but a hot mess when current Tarkov itself is a hot mess then idk what to tell you. Anyway great vid, I've met a lot of people calling you a BSG bootlicker but this video (and many others tbh) proves them so wrong. You're also right we love this game, that means we should apply the harshest CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. We want it to improve and if devs make mistakes it's important to let them know through constrictive criticism.
there is button for radio which was something like J as default but yeah the balances need to happen on the load outs a bit since I picked the scout to level up and I am now on the runner load out all I get is glock which feels like pea shooter compared to marksmans having M1A on same tier of people having shotguns with flechette
I can't believe they released this mode with the same mechanic of gradually growing progression over multiple matches. Gaining in-game advantages over players because you won previous matches *against totally different players* has no place in any reasonable competition game. This is like the fundamental rule of all competition for millennia. You do not get to start with 8 queens instead of pawns because you "ranked up" by grinding chess. If there's any change at all to the game based on elo difference it's customary that the more experienced and better player gets handicapped instead and may not start with a queen at all. I have no interest in playing this game with people who have 10x better gear than me because they play it as their literal job. Fuck off BSG. This was supposed to be queue up, shoot people, go next, but with Tarkov's gunplay. This levelling up shit is for the regular game mode.
Honestly I was expecting Arena to be just easy to get into version of Tarkov which making your own guns/loadouts that are balanced around cost like some CoDs did it back in the days. Give the player points to spend, let them chose what they want for them and have quick fun. Fuck this preset system, single handedly made me not interested
It'a really mind boggling that there is no possibility to make your own preset in a Tarkov based game. Where there is like seven billion ways to make your loadout. You should be able to make multiple presets for every tier or rank or whatever and match on games in for example tier4, if the que times get too long make it like in wot that you tier can be -/+1 from a match normal.
They should focus on what makes them great: novel PvP leaning towards hyperrealism. Innovate on that because there is literally no competition. Why compete with things that are not in your category?
It never hurts to be completely honest in a review but a lot of these seem to be leftover complaints and frustrations from the base game - it's not fresh enough in Pestily's eyes and can tell he was just not in a great mood making this review but if that's how he feels - it's good for them to know. I know this isn't final product and it's, as always, a work in progress and hope they address his biggest concerns quickly.
I do love the idea of team strategy but so often when I play these games the coordination is terrible and that's with friends, randoms, enemies, etc... even if everyone agrees the execution is another story but usual not everyone agrees on strategy and it can be annoying when no one is willing to try new things. Everyone seems to really be caught up on the word 'competitive' and 'e-sports' ready... but honestly how many games really are perfect for those? 4/10 for the first release of Arena could be worse lol. I haven't seen anyone with any rose colored glasses towards Arena lol the community is pretty toxic in general about the base game and seems to apply to Arena as well. Love ya Pest
Don't know if someone already said this but, there is team VOIP in the game. You have to go into settings and there is a bind for "RADIO" so that you can talk to your team from across the map.
@@Psydvckthefirst not really the point, this is supposed to be a competitive game and if you play against a 5 stack using discord, you'll be at a major disadvantage if you cant give comms to your random teammates after you die.
Thank you for staying critical of BSG. The matching and waiting for players is so frustrating. The whole point of Arena was to minimize downtime. Luv u m8 ❤
On the topic of custom presets, I think a loadout point system or a money system would be perfect, a weird but good example in my opinion is Mordhau's Loadout system, Heavier/ bigger equipment cost more, while lighter/ smaller equipment costs way less. I also don't like that you have to level up your skills in a competitive more fast pace game like arena. I think some skills should come as perks that count towards your loadout points, so if you decide to go light, you can also pick perks like faster reload drills and maxed health skill or something.
Skills in competitive games is a really trash way to go, i understand in EFT where it should be a RPG, soo skills fine, whatever, but in a competitive ripoff, totally remove it and maybe make part of loadout as runes in league of legends, you but badges of knowledge or something and has few slots, can have it in some levels and you combine some to be the perfect build LOL
I fully agree with this, having played mordhau for 500 odd hours, the loadout system would fit arena pretty well with the 1/2/3 and so on armor/point system. Definitely add perks (Like allowing 2 secondaries), and remove the RPG leveling system for stats.
I feel like you are the only man truly representing the Tarkov community. Much love and respect for you saying it as you see it, and not bending the knee out of fear of losing access.
well not much players got access to the game on top of that quest item can only be found in raid (which is a concept he brought up i think) was a stupid idea
If you're going to have presets with completely different levels of gear, then there should be gear tiers or something so someone with lvl 4-5 armor and kitted weapon will never encounter someone with a little kedr kit or at least, incorporate that in ranked relative to your skill level/rank
Edit: Well now that i have access it seems like they dont match based on the preset at all, only based on the account level and ranking. That is of course absolutely stupid as you cannot play any low tier preset once you hit a certain level unless you like torture. Previous: I think they have that, but i assume the issue is, that they use the average team-gear score to match the teams. Which is fine on a team level but sucks on a player level. If you queue up and get 4 people with high level gear on your team while you are bottom tier gear you will still have to play against high tier enemies. So maybe the solution is to set a range of gear score you can be matched with within your team too.
@@OmaeWaKys Exactly! This game shouldn't be another grind like the normal game. It should be csgo with tarkov gameplay. How hard was that for them to do?
@@OmaeWaKys 100%. All I really wanted was ETF's mechanics with CS's gameplay loop. Equal playing field. I don't see how this can be an esports option with this much gear disparity.
As both a casual player and a solo seeing a straight up review of where the game is at is super helpful. My only gripe with BSG atm is their hostility towards people giving criticism so I hope the listen to a bigger creator who helps shape their community as both this and tarkov still have so much potential
BSG seems receptive to constructive criticism. It's the "BSG is only doing this for money" "BSG doesn't care" and that non sense that has soured the relationship between the Devs and the community.
They usually take Pestilys word pretty seriously. A big negative to the games progression is the original computer magic used in the game. I think most of what we want can be done but there is a handful of things that won't ever be fixed because they would literally have to remake the entire game.
A way to significantly improve the fun factor of the game i think would be to have the preset cost be by round and it be lower so that you could change your preset mid game to a one you might like more
Would also help counter your opponents if they have specific presets that are difficult to fight with your own. Someone running high tier armor? Switch to a leg meta or grenade class mid game.
I am skeptical to believe BSG know how to or can improve performance in their games. I hadn't played this current wipe, last time I played was around Feb/Mar this year, and I couldn't play streets because it was running
Its very likely a lot of their code and assets are poorely optimised. However its standard practise to finish functionality of software first then optimise, as new features will break optimisation techniques. Then again if its from the ground up terrible code then optimising is polishing a poo.
@@IEEEE50 You clearly have absolutely zero clue how software works and so you're parroting what you read online. Optimizing software AFTER they're complete is nearly impossible. There's VERY LITTLE improvement that can be done at that stage of development, because touching anything can break something else. GOOD software is optimized as it develops. TRASH software is "optimised" after it's finished. It's a common practice not because it's a GOOD practice, but because most software companies have braindead deadlines and don't care about quality.
@@The_John_Highway Complete product is perhaps the wrong choice of words, however it is best practise to finish a feature before optimising it at least. Optimisation during feature development doesn't make very much sense since the feature might change completely by the end of it. so you just wasted time and money. Also the fact you cant actually record accurate data during development so testing for results and making changes on it can lead to a red herring solution that provides no benefit and also just wastes time. whenever you make additions or changes to code it affects its preformance, if you wanted to optimise during development you would have to extensively test something that might not even be there by the end of it. For example a UI system for the game is needed, you dont know the extent of the functionality the designers want this early, so you create the whole thing and get it running perfectly, spend tons of time on it. Turns out half of what you made isn't needed or isnt compatible with future changes. All of that time was spent for nothing. You test for functionality, once its functional to the specfications desired, you then make preformance changes. Obviously you should be implementing best code practises the whole time but once its complete you can go through and check areas for slowdown or innefficiency and find a solution.
I think they should definitely have a money system. It would feel way better if everyone started with bad loot in the match and then as it progressed you could risk buying better helmets, vests, or weapons. You could even choose to save your money for the next round as to not risk losing the gear. This would also encourage looting.
@@JimstrVids that's what you get when you pay devs horrible salaries and treat them badly, and have a ceo who doesn't play videogames so crap like automatic recoil compensation gets put in. The game is just a giant mess of ideas, with hyper realism in some areas, and complete clownish things in other areas that make COD look realistic. Instead of wasting time on this stupid arena thing they could have made PVE coop or single player version of the game that would have drawn in huge amounts of players. Oh well.
The capture point should be random, but have it be an airdrop. Allows all players to see its location before its even capturable, make its decent around the same as in tarkov. Could even make a capture the flag kind of game mode where you need to secure the item inside the crate.
I think it could randomly put one team in favour based on their location. And if they aim to make it competetive e-sport game the capture point location should be same every time so you can plan some actual tactics. Then airdrop to one of like 2 or 3 constant locations would be perfect.
@@rones6990 asymmetry is perfectly viable in Esports and competitive games. CS:GO is the prime example of that where both teams fundamentally have different objectives yet is competitively viable. @@A3r0XxLolCS just has satisfying gameplay that’s why it’s been around fore ever. Tarkov has wonky gunplay with an emphasis on looting. Take away the loot and rush of possibly losing it you just have wonky gunplay…
I can't believe they didn't include editable presets and some form of economy as you mentioned - could have had a simple version of the merchants from EFT where you unlock scopes etc. You start off with presents then eventually can run with custom scope etc from merchant/armory. Also make meds it's own level up system with preset kits - e.g lvl1 kit has aspririn, bandage, immo splint; lvl5 Salewa, 2-3 injectors, alumn splint.
Its to stop the meta chuds sweating on Arena, they want the game to be competitive and if you allow people to edit presets it won't be competitive anymore, it will just be a meta slug fest like the base game. Arena being this way proves to me that nikita never wanted the meta-fest we get in the base game.
@@Rexhunterj i think the solution to that is to make it to where you pick your loadout before you start matchmaking then have matchmaking take players gear scores into accout when it comes to finding other players. let the meta chads duke it out in arena i say, so long as some random timmy with a mosin doesn't get dropped into the middle of it.
Yeah but level 2 kit are already 75k and you lose ALL if you lose the game, i have to stop playing soon cause i will be broke lol no way i go only with a pistol. They really didnt think this more than 5 minutes.@@Rexhunterj
