ARES exercise - Simplex Drill on 2 meters

I brought up a net on the repeaters and then we moved over to simplex for the exercise. I used an Elk Antenna that I purchased.

I setup in my driveway. Trailer hitch mounted mast. It was pretty cold.

Fantastic video, Tom! Very cool to see you run the drill outside with a portable setup. No better way to test an emergency setup than running it like an actual emergency. I know some of the firearms guys say "train how you expect to fight" us comms guys have to "train how you plan to communicate"... or something like that. Keep up the great work, my friend!

I bought a smaller PVC elbow for the handle. It was still a little larger than my mast. I so I just wrapped some tape around the top of the mast. Not pretty, but it worked.

It is a 25 foot Max Gain mast. They have gone up in price since I got mine, but they can hold a lot of weight. You have to scroll down on the website to see the options. mgs4u.com/fiberglass-push-up-masts/

I just got the same mast, Max-Gain MK-4-HD is the model. Been using it with a hamstick dipole but also just ordered the Elk dualband. I run the mast with a trailer hitch mount, very solid. Got some videos of it posted on my page. 73!
