i think aretha likes more of the gospel tributes now bcuz if u notice thats the only time u get a real reaction out of her when someone performs. anybody else notice?
I just love the way Karen jumped in at the end....LOL She probably was thinking "I know this dude ain't trying to come into my soprano section".....lol
That's a matter of your "opinion." The Fact is that Mahalia Jackson was & is truly the "voice" that is the "original" in Gospel where all other voices are measured, and Mahalia stated emphatically that Aretha's "mother" had the most powerful voice she had ever heard. No dispute, Aretha's voice was exceedingly beautful, but in the Gospel field, Mahalia still holds reign. Aretha idolized Mahalia.
The main thing is that Aretha certainly enjoyed & appreciated All their contributions as this song was "Home" for her & Many of us! Doesn't matter who can out-sing or out-perform as it's All Glorious Praise & if there's any "completion" then it's against evil forces around us & the against the "armor" we use in the form of spiritual song! :-)
If you closely at 4:10 you see Micah look at KiKi like WOW DID YOUR MOM JUST DO THAT?.....and if you look even closer Twinkie even gags a little...hahah...that note and the way she riffed all the way down the scale was nothing short of redic!
Actually, Whitney Houston's "The Preachers Wife" Soundtrack was also counted on Billboard as a Gospel LP and IT is the biggest selling gospel album of ALL TIME, even surpassing Aretha Franklins Amazing Grace.
YES Karen is up there with Aretha, but I don't know if she surpasses her just yet. Though Aretha herself even called Karen personally to play a younger version of herself in an upcoming movie. So that let's you know that even Aretha has mad respect for Karen and her vocal ability!!!

@foyogood Karen is my absolute favorite singer, but it sounds like you're putting the cart before the horse here. Karen herself has said that she listened to Aretha. And I say without Aretha, the general public may not be as open to gospel music (she broke down barriers). So even though Aretha has smoked her voice away IMO (I just don't get it anymore), STILL we'd all be foolish not to give her RESPECT! After all this is a tribute to HER....most people (outside of church) don't even know Karen!
I see people have lost their minds. Karen Clark-Sheard is a legend in Gospel music and has a very good voice BUT Aretha is a legend in Gospel, Jazz, Blues and of course Soul. Many of you see the 67 year old Aretha Franklin and must not know anything about her music. Aretha was singing like a grown woman at the age of 14 in her daddys church. When Aretha released the Amazing Grace album it just proved no singer will ever touch her.
I've seen this a couple of times and still cant figure out what that heck Re was wearing lol.....and i just had a feeling that Karen was gonna get the last run on Jesus be a fence...
do you understand aretha is almost 70?! she can still hold her own incredibly well for a woman who smoked for 40 years had babies.been around the world on stages countless times and got weight issues. can you do what you did 50 years ago? 10 years ago? karen is good but trust she can't even stand in aretha's presence!
@TheQueenAretha gosh thank you!!!!!!!! i assume you and i must be in the same age group or older........grew up on a wide array of song stylists..........when you don't have a big reference point............this is your argument......karen is okay.....hell i wuld argue that as good as karen is yolanda is a better ocalist because yolanda like aretha is a song stylist!

I have been a Tina fan for forever, and she has been known as The Queen of Rock for decades. She is known just as much, if not more than Aretha worldwide by that title. It was a misunderstanding and Aretha acted very divaish even after the correction. That's Aretha, she is the biggest and baddest diva if there ever was one. Her and Babs, :P But like it matters anyway. People know Aretha is a diva, but people generally don't care as she has earned her status.
@TheQueenAretha you know what....we gonna let that nut foyogood keep living in their fantasy world........aretha is in the history books........known internationally just by her first name. elton john was influence by aretha's gospel leanings to play piano. i can't believed i went back and forth with this person. we gonna let the queen sit on her thrown and everyone else bow at her feet. if karen is lucky she can kiss her ring..lol.....check out my other channel with re-uploads...aikan1974
now I admit that I Love Aretha, but let's call a spade a spade. Karen has a bigger range, a better vibrato and her riffs, runs and trills are PHENOMENAL. Aretha is great and paved the way for a lot of artists, and I give her ALL of her props, but I still say Karen would shut her down. But it's all a matter of opinion.
