This song was first done by Diana Ross in 1980 for the movie Its My Turn. I love both versions and with each version you get a different emotion. To me Aretha never had a bad hit she knew how to take a song and make it her very on. And to me thats what makes a legendary singer one who can sing a song by another artist and turn it into a whole different masterpiece. WOW! I love this version, I love both and I don’t mean that in the competitive way catty fans do. I appreciate it how Aretha and Diana approached this song completely differently and in a way that was unique to their styles as singers. I love when artist have their own musical identities. They both delivered this song beautifully.
I love Arethas take on this song much better than Ross's. Wow, just wow. Aretha sings with such passion and conviction that is missing from Ross' version.
Both Renditions are great. Diana Ross truly owns this song. Aretha took it to church. But if you want a more Soulful rendition by Diana, check out the live version she did from the Diana 1981 TV special. It's slow down and she adds more Blues notes. 💖

Omg....😭😭😭. I went through so much helping others, but never received anything in return. I had to let go of everything to follow my soon to be ex husband State to state. I remember when Aretha's album "Love All the Hurt Away", came out, oh so many years ago... I fell in love with the entire LP. Ms. Aretha's high notes, are nothin' to be trifled with y'all... If you haven't checked out the LATHA album, please do so, I promise you won't be disappointed.

i did not know this even existed!!! aretha the great sang it with so much soul. i wont compare it with diana ross' original version. each has their own greatness. the queen lives on forever.
So many great songs from various “lost eras” of Aretha’s career - in this case before her ‘80s superstardom. She never had a bad album, though some of them were more fantastic than others.

I like Aretha's version, but I actually feel more with Diana's-especially when she sung it 20 years ago on the Oprah show when she nearly started crying. You should look it up on RU-vid.

Absolutely! This is truly Diana's anthem and she owns it, but Aretha gave such a unique and beautiful spin to it. Kind of like how Stephanie Mills owns Home, but Diana still does a nice job on it, you know? Long live the Divas of soul!

I love both versions, BUT The Queen took this song from The Boss and SUNG IT THROUGH THE CLUB, OVER THE CHURCH and straight to the GODS. Both versions ensue different emotions, but ReRe version is my GO-TO!
