For everyone who thinks of Aretha as delusional or narcissistic, consider the following... She has been called "the Queen" of soul music for the last 50 years, won all of the highest music honors, 18 Grammy Awards, 12 honorory doctorates, and has inspired just about every singer/songwriter in mainstream music-- not to mention countless musicians and fans the world over. Her legacy speaks for itself. Even though I don't care for her cover of "Rolling in the Deep", she is rather entitled to think quite highly of herself. Some of you win "Employee of the Month" and start feeling yourself. Imagine being told you are the RULER of your profession for over half a century. You're bound to become a bit arrogant at times.

jak30341 "We" haven't created anything...unless you were around in 1967. Propelled it, maybe. I won't comment on her being a "bitch" because many of my favorite artists could probably be described that way. It doesn't make them any less talented or entertaining. And you can't dispose of her anymore than you could dispose of Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, or Barbra Streisand. She has already made her greatest impact. She hasn't had a real hit in almost 20yrs. That's how you know you're dealing with a real legend. She never has to give one more great performance or record another hit. All she has to do is bask in her own glory, knowing what she has accomplished.

The very first time I heard RITD, I thought "Adele has penned a song fully in the spirit of what Aretha sang in her 1960s heyday." It would be awesome if Aretha would cover it. Only today did I learn that my dream has come true.

I like how the backing vocals go into a cover of Marvin Gaye and Tammy Tirrell at the end of Aretha's version of Rolling in the Deep. Reminds me of when Prince did a mashup with Crimson and Clover and Wild Thing.

Aretha Franklin is one of the greatest singers of all times. When she decides to honour a good song (and, obviously, a great singer), the attitute by itself must be honoured as well. Maria Callas, Lata Mangeshkar, Martha Reeves, Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin are not an exception of what happens to singers in general: their voices change as time passes by, and it is normal. What would people think and say in 30 years from now, when Adele change her voice too? Will she deserve as much disrespect as Aretha are facing in YT comments now? We have to be a little bit more reverent to expert singers.

I agree, the cover is amazing. It stands out. I think Adele' s people didn't like that she took the song to a new level, when they were satisfied with it where it was. But when you are honest with self, you know Aretha`s version is better.

Her version of Respect is a cover of Otis Redding with the gender pronouns in the lyrics changed for a woman to sing to a man. She absolutely owned it to the extent that he started copying elements of her arrangement in concert.

Don't worry, when these kids grow up, their younger generation is probably gonna destroy anything respectable they like, considering generations get more and more disrepectful as eras pass. I'm an Aretha fan, but I don't like her version of Rolling in the Deep. When she covers a song, she usually does something special to make it sound different and uniquely her own. She didn't do that with this song. To hear a great Aretha performance, watch her perform "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman" at the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony for Carole King. Now THAT is the way to do it!

Without Aretha Franklin, there would be no Adele. Aretha is one of the originators of Soul Music as it is was then and it is today. Respect the pioneers, they paved the way, created and made the style popular for all to enjoy and many to emulate. Her influence on this music is way bigger than Adele's, Aretha will forever be The Queen of Soul.
