It's been almost 30 years since Aretha Franklin made this video as a public service message against drinking and driving. This was filmed at downtown Detroit's MUSIC HALL. This program offered free tickets, and all 1770 seats were filled with fans. I was there in the audience, and the whole free show was to tape this video with audience participation (pointing in the air). A wonderful memory about a national treasure!
Thanks for clarifying this. As someone in UK and half asleep I wasn’t a bit unsure what was going on to start with. They should have included this in description.
I'd listen to Aretha's music back in childhood, didn't see her face for about a year after hearing her first song, but once I did she looked exactly as beautiful and kindly as I'd imagined.
I was one of the producers of the "Think Don't Drive and Drink" program, for Dodge and the Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Aretha was most generous, writing a version of her hit song just for us. A memorable promotion. One of the high points of my career.
She is absolutely stunning in this video. “Think” is the best song ever written in my opinion. I know this is an alternate version. Love the original. Huge message in its day of release and even still to this day. #OneLove
Amazing how Aretha voice by this time had gotten more husky and deep. She still manages to embrace that voice period very effectively, adding ab libs and working her voice.
I think she was still smoking 🚬 cigarettes at this time, but later she stopped smoking and regained her voice, 😊 So yes that explains her huskiness and deepness in her voice.
The album this version was released on, Through the Storm, was recorded at a time of strife for Aretha: her sister Carolyn had passed away, and her brother Cecil was soon to die, too.
First and foremost condolences to friends and family and fans across the world for her passing. She will be missed terribly. This is proper music. Today's singers cannot come close to this
Aretha, thank you for your legacy ! You are my favourite singer ever ! God bless the Queen 👑 of Soul ! I know you are now in a beautiful place in heaven singing 🎤 with angels.
Yes, and at least half of her beauty came from the inside....always a loving & generous person, gave away millions to those in need & never advertised it.
