Random French with a Romanian gf here… she introduced me to Argatu a few months ago for whom I developed so much respect and admiration both in term of the quality of his music production & originality using traditions and culture. If you are reading this, you made a total stranger love your country even more. Love from France, love to Romanians and your culture ❤️🇷🇴 Peace ✌️
I discovered you circa 10 years ago when Rádio 1 here in Czechia played one of your songs and you still amaze me to this day. You really deserve bigger international recognision.
Another banger from Argatu! My Romanian wife introduced me to Argatu mentioning the guy who does it is from her hometown and I am loving it. Really fresh take on traditional Romanian traditional music with modern rhythms!
A random listener from Russia. Found out about you and Subcarpati years ago after the Yaga game trailer and have been a fan ever since. I was immediately hooked by the combination of the folk and modern electronic sound, which I think helps the culture of many nations to find new fans and at the same time not to forget the history. It got to the ridiculous point that I had the opportunity to go to work in Cluj and in an interview with the company I said I knew local musicians, naming you. The interviewer was pleasantly surprised. I wish I had been able to visit the country in the end, but I think you did a lot for my personal interest in it. And perhaps someone can tell me if there is any folkloric meaning to the masks used in the album covers and in the clip? Vă mulțumim!
In different parts of Romania still exist traditions, usually on new year's eve, with men that wear scary masks and clothes mimicking monsters and march on the streets to chase away the bad spirits. Most likely that is what they want to transmit with their cover.
Basically, they trace back to old pagan traditions, there's lots of them in our countries and each little region / village has their own versions but that's for another story, in short, for winter, people dress up with these masks and they should represent the "Mosneag" & "Baba" Which literally translates to Old man/woman. They come in with some sort of goofy poetry about the year that passed making a bit of fun about the bad things that happened and looking forward for a better future this "poetry" for the lack of a better word, is called "Urare". There's a lot more to it, but this should sumarise it a bit for you.

Andrei, e fain, dar mi-e dor de simplitatea si frumusetea versurilor din Un Om, Valea Regilor, Mama( best video so far). Ar fi cool un video la Doina mea, parerea mea :) Selectia beat-urilor, versurilor e inca vie, dar, te rog, nu te du in zona comercialului, poti mai mult man!
