Argentina: Milei's Reforms Clear Senate Amid Violent Protests | Subscribe to Firstpost
Argentine President Javier Milei's controversial economic reform package narrowly secured preliminary Senate approval amidst violent clashes between police and protesters outside Congress in Buenos Aires. The reforms, aimed at slashing public spending and reviving the crisis-ridden economy, faced staunch opposition from opposition parties, unions, and social organizations. After a tense debate, the Senate granted initial approval, with the Vice President casting the tie-breaking vote. However, the bill's articles still face scrutiny, and if fully approved, it will return to the lower house, where President Milei's party lacks a majority. Meanwhile, outside the Congress, riot police fired water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesters, as cars were set on fire and demonstrators hurled stones and Molotov cocktails.

Why did they elect him when they had to protest against him in the first place?!

Those protesting did not vote for him and apparently have no respect for a democratic election.

Well he didn't win with 100% of the votes, this isn't a dictatorship. Many of those who didn't vote form him are actively against his policies.

@ianlin4010 it doesn't happen in my country, plus it's the people who are protesting, not the opposition
