Ideal speed adjustment will cure the back and forth shifting. Takes the torque off the drive belt making it easier to shift. The old Argos had the same problem. Reduce idle speed then shift quickly. In the older Argos when shifting from low to high I’d just go from whatever gear you were in shift to reverse then into the preferred gear. Love the machines. Made a living in them. 1980 to 2012
Change the transmission oil if it’s having a hard time changing gears. I purchased a 2021 conquest that did the same thing. If it’s new and in the initial break-in period it will get really dirty with metal shavings. Change after first 20 hrs.
I agree with you 100% regarding the transmission. I have a new 2021 Argo Aurora 950 SX 8X8. The transmission is stuck in Forward Gear. I haven't hit it yet like you did, but I'm getting close.
i have the 8x8 650 version and trust me this thing never gets stuck, asides from super heavy snow witch at times it might get beached but rarely happens. Great vehicle went to places i never thought u could with it
springs should be adjustable for resistance.. you can flip the stops for spring tension. Also. if you create a two line lift you will optimize your lift capabilities. Pulley to anchor point then hook up on a continuous loop at your top rack, that will decrease the load on you winch, slow down the lift. and safe your line.
I have a 2009 750 EFI Argo Avenger … tracks, heater, canopy, plow … pretty much loaded. But I’ve been considering purchasing the 2023 Aurora. Would you know if they’ve improved the shift lever since you’ve purchased yours?
I own a 950 it's a very good machine, impossible to replace as winter vehicle for 4 people with track in thick snow but it's far too expensive especially for the initial quality... and lot of little bug
A lot of negative comments. I imagine just a lot of folks who can't afford one. Looks like a pretty solid unit to me but I don't really have a use for an 8 wheeled tracked vehicle right now.
Its a shame, until you spend some time in an argo its tuff to judge one, we have two with our search and rescue team and after working in the woods with teams that run sxs and 4 wheelers we would never give them up, summer or winter....where the sxs's and wheelers stop...argos just keep rolling
I have one and I can tell you they're absolute garbage The number one problem Is the brakes the brakes are right in front of your feet as well as connected to a blower that blows dust straight into your face I don't even want to know what it's like having one with a cab
Thank you for sharing this with us. USED ARGO's: We've had 2 used 6x6 ARGO's over the years and they both suffered from the same issue... *warn chains and sprockets* once this happens, you can't keep drive chains on it, (there are 4 to 6 of them), they keep jumping off the sprockets and then you can't move. They are expensive to replace. The drive system would be way tougher if it had drive shafts or hydraulic driven axels. (They are very slow to operate).
I like the Argo , I just wish they had more videos on hill climbing, like in Kentucky or Virginia ? We got some pretty steep hills, I have a kawasaki mule . But , I'd like to try out the Argo. Thanks for your videos..
People might think 25mph isn't all that fast, but it is in an Argo. No suspension means when you hit a bump at that speed, things get scary quick. Argo claims the low psi tires function like a suspension, but don't believe it.
Lol that's hilarious, they can't keep 850's in stock for motor replacement in Canada lol, don't even get me started on their 800's ... boat ⚓ I was a brp guy since I was 6 ( now 40) and the last ten years their motors sucked bad
Pretty sharp machine you should get in touch with Warn my Uncle has a 4X4 Ford Van he had a Warn installed and told me their customer service was great ! He swears by them now BTW he is retired U.Š.Military and built the van to use for hunting in Alaska he is a very self sufficient person A career Search and Rescue helicopter Pilot (CoastGuard, originally Marine Corp Vietnam
Nearly 40K and you don't get a proper gas gauge, it won't shift properly under load, you have to tarp it to keep snow off, the zippers are hard to use, you don't get a real cab, etc... I think I'll stick with an ATV. Could easily get a Polaris General Northstar for that price.
I hope 2020 the dirt trax crew really takes a look at all different models of can am and Polaris fourwheelers and side by sides like have you seen the amount of upgrades
I`m seriously looking into a set up like this. Never owned any ATV before but this model is starting at 31k without most of the accessories shown. I respect the ability of the machine, but plain bench seats, no gas guage, no heater. There is no real suspension other than the tires, is the money in the transmission. Would like to use something like this to get at remote lakes in summer and ice fish in winter with a bit of hunting in between. Someone convince me to buy one or run the other way...
Argo doesn't include Warn winches anymore in 2023. They now include "Comeup" winches, which look like a Harbor Freight grade unit that doesn't include a recovery strap as the Warns did.
well you can fix one problem by getting the alumalight top instead of the soft top and to be fair you are using an Argo as a snow plow i mean come on it not designed to plow snow its made to drive threw it
I'm test driving one later this week. This model and my kubota RTV have about the same towing capacity. I use my kubota to maneuver my 5,000 lb boat into my garage. I just keep the tongue weight down as much as possible with a raised hitch. Wondering what kind of actual tongue weight this machine will handle since it has no suspension? Thanks....
For the price you can have a nice Kubota or Bobcat for plowing and yard work and have enough left over for a truck and 4 wheeler. My Bobcat will blow the doors off that thing plowing snow.
@kyndakrazy About every 10 years it snows but melts almost instantly. I am from Colorado and my Bobcat made me a bundle doing driveways. Summer, new gravel, winter snow removal. The my wife (from Florida) said "we leave Colorado or I leave!" so here we are! I can't believe how expensive those Argos are. Me & the wife each have a CanAm X-3. For the price we could have a Bobcat and an X-3. Or two Honda Talons.
That's more that I paid for my Kubota L2501 w/loader, with filled tires, 3rd function kit, grapple buckets, brush cutter, box blade, rear blade and snow pusher. What a joke lol If only my tractor floated🤣🤣
The tracks add phenomenal traction. I have an 8x8 with tracks. I took the tracks off to replace a broken axle and after a couple of days, put the tracks back on. It swims better with tracks, the tracks protect the tires from punctures, and you don't high center on logs.
@@chuckvan1568 I would avoid floating in deep or swift water. Between the drag and Ballast affect the tracks created I have experience my Avenger wants to capsize. Quick thinking saved the day. I also have the plastic supper track and these will capsize your Argo fast. The ballast effect happens when you turn.DO NOT RUN PLASTIC TRACK IN ANY DEPTH WATER. As for on land I found clay type mud will stick to the track and bring you to a stop. It builds up between the track and the body. The plastic track guides will brake depending on the terrain or if you side hill it puts a bind on them. I am aware there are other track options. I am referring to my experience with the Argo Super 18" plastic and rubber track only. It depends on what you are doing as to which track you should run. I use my 2005 Avenger for duck hunting and big game hunting in Utah and Wyoming in snow.
I know they have been making Argos for like 50 years now but I wanted one when I was really young in the 90s. I think they were like $7k for one back then. I thought that was expensive for a rough riding chain driven plastic tub. 😂
I had an old-school 6x6 Argo(bigfoot?), it was lousy in the water, worse on the snow(with the plastic tracks and its underpowered engine), the steering was jerky, the transmission lever sucked and the chains on the floor were insanely loud. Lesson learned, never again.
@@dirttraxtv I replaced it with a late 90's Yamaha Big Bear 350. No it doesn't float, but did I really need that? I would like to buy tracks for it, but I'm not sure it has enough power, speed is not an issue as it is a utility quad. I mostly use it to pull logs out of the bush, and boy does it shine!
That's awesome. Promise, no hate here. I truly believe you should get what works for you and if it makes you happy and especially if it does what what lacking in your last purchase, nobody else's opinion should matter. Glad you found a rig that does what you need it to do. Ride safe!
They claim they can go anywhere But!!! Really, they can't go nowhere legally!! at least in Ontario Canada?? Cannot take them on any ATV trail or road ways!! Argo needs to take care of this Huge problem and fight for these things to be able to go where ATV's can simple or their sales will drop to Nill 🙂 P.S Argo wake up please!!
The bottom line is the Argo is a clunky cheaply designed north American Tractor Supply Co. type vehicle. Imagine comparing this Argo to one that either Honda or BRP would make....? But they don’t so here you have it.
Agreed, they need to update it, it looks the same as it did when it came out in 1962. If BRP made a competitor to this, you know it would look amazing and have lots of new technology in it, like a gas gauge.
True. I had to replace my transmission when the machine was a little past the warranty period. The company (ODG) wouldn't help at all. New transmission was $4K.
