A reclusive author who writes espionage novels about a secret agent and a global spy syndicate realizes the plot of the new book she's writing starts to mirror real-world events, in real-time. Argylle is directed by Matthew Vaughn and stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Henry Cavill, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Samuel L Jackson, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, Dua Lipa, and Sophia Boutella. Should this spy action thriller be on your watchlist? Thanks for checking out my Argylle (2024) Movie Review!

I really appreciate your videos. You're one of my go to channels to see whether a movie seems to be worth watching or not, the way you describe movies really helps me know if it is the type of movie I may like or not. Thanks for all you do.

Thanks for the honest and excellent review Chris. The premise reminds me a little of the Melissa McCarthy movies which I admit I liked the first one. This one does have a good cast, however I feel I can wait for streaming. The movie I'm really looking forward to is The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare from Guy Ritchie ! I won't even wait for the reviews to go see that one!

I walked out of the theater in the first 15 mins. Between twiddle dee and twiddle dumb seating 4 seats away talking through the movie and the terrible plot, script, and acting I couldn't take anymore. At least the theater used the money I spent foranother movie for another day

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind was where I took first real notice of Sam Rockwell and then Iron Man II.

This movie reminded me of The Long Kiss Goodnight and The Bourne Identity, and in all of them the main character had a memory loss after a failed mission and was not what she/he seemed to be to other people. But while the other two were straightforward thriller/action movies, I don't know what I should call this one - which at least was part comedy, part satire, and whatnot. The advertising was misleading in that Argylle (Cavill) was not even a real character, and the movie could have done away with the frequent switching of faces between Cavill and Rockwell during fights. You said that the plot was predictable, and I certainly suspected that Elly had some connection to spy organizations. But I certainly never suspected that her parents were imposters too, since that was ridiculously impossible given that the writer was exposed to the public eye and had even completed several novels since the accident. The bad guys were incredible patient.

The nerve to say anything about Cavill's hair when yours looks like this for real 😄😄

We love Shih-Tzus, so Seven Psychopaths was a great Sam movie! Also, I don't think you can go past his performance in Moon. Unless you count Zaphod Beeblebrox :D.

1:12 This is a common problem with modern movie making. Despite the incredible possibilities of CGi and the recent volume wall technology used by shows like The Mandalorian, we still see tv and film makers cutting creative corners with video game type cut scene greenscreen shots. Indiana Jones 5 suffered from this issue (the opening bike and train chase and most of the rest of the action). It saves time and money to fake the backgrounds, composite the actors into the scene, than film it for real on location. It's worth stressing all the classic James Bond films used real locations and real stunts. It's only in the 1990s and into the 21st century that Bond went more cgi although the crane jump in Casino Royale (2006) was done in real life so too the incredible helicopter scene in Spectre (2015) although the close ups on Daniel Craig inside the helicopter were composites. Every Bond stunt from 1962 to 1989 was done for real (well apart from the space scenes in Moonraker!). Mission Impossible has tried to use real life stunt work, Tom Cruise has always stressed the importance of real life action although the train sequence in Dead Reckoning was all cgi and the mountain bike jump had cgi enhancement.

It’s too boring. The main character is too stoic. And for based on real life story, a lot of it is made up. I rather see a documentary on the real life event and interview the real people.

Thanks for the review, I will wait to watch it on streaming. Gosh, Sam Rockwell has so many great performances! Standouts for me are Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Moon and Mr. Right. Charlie's Angels wasn't a very good film, but he made it entertaining.

Chris, I actually MET Sam Rockwell at Whole Foods. My daughter and I were hanging out. It as a bit fancy so he approached her and just started to have fun with her. She was about 10 at the time. SUPER nice guy - until I said 'you look familiar'. That - did it! He BOLTED out of there and I felt SO bad about that. Clearly he lives a life of a recluse. Why he was in Nashville, I don't know but it was not that long after Iron Man II. Either way, I did not handle that well. Sigh.

It was definitely a very cheesy movie at times and there was one scene in particular that I was like there is no way that would ever happen. Very fake but still a fun movie. Doubt I will ever watch it again.

The movie was dull especially the first half. The Sam Rockwell character did not have anything interesting to say before the plot twist begins. And the action is pretty bad and overly long. I’m surprised I was bored even with Henry Cavill action scenes. And Vaughn has to stop the stylized over the top violence… they are just not fun or interesting anymore. Sam Rockwell is always pretty solid. I like to hate him in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.

One thing that is unforgettable surrounding this movie is that a bunch of Taylor Swift fans thought the Argylle tie in novel that was obviously made to tie into the movie was written by Taylor Swift under a pseudonym

From what I can gather this seems clunky, overstuffed, and way to long. IDK, I guess I can catch it on streaming at some point, but I don't see myself going to cinema to see this movie.

Argylle is a better movie than any of the 2023 Marvel movies. So worth the ticket price.
