Time for the ammo to face the giggly challenge of 10% ballistic gel! Here, we put the .460 S&W Magnum loads with the 221 grain Shock Hammer and the 350 grain Hawk JFP as well as the .500 S&W Magnum 515 grain Hawk JFP to the test.

I wonder why those 460 mag loads are so anemic? Pretty much 454 casull levels.

@Marie Zacharias - Keep 2 things in mind here. Due to the length of the bullet, it's in a .454 Casull case because it would be too long in a .460 S&W case. Also, this was a prototype I was sent. I've been sending info back to them ND they're still working to perfect it. I've been told they've since improved velocity. I'm hoping to get a chance to test the final product.

Interesting. The thing about a hard cast in the comparison is that its informative to see the different in wounding between a big meplat at high velocity vs. an expanding mushroom shape. I guess we can go look at another video for that.

@Artful Alias - I'd be willing to try and put something together. Issue is that ballistic gel doesn't give hard cast bullets a fair shake. You need a different type of media for that. It might be good to put the two bullet types against something like a ham or turkey.

@@GoBigBoreOrGoHome Agreed. A large hard edged meplat makes a bigger permanent 'crush' wound that is not well represented in gel. Or at least its hard to tell the difference between the stretch cavity and permanent crush deformation in videos.

@matt p - This is my first experience with them, and I was impressed. After speaking w/Aria Ballistic today, that 515 grain is meant for very large game. In a Cape Buffalo, it will expand like the the 350 grain bullet did.

How does that compete when 460 s&w 221gr was way underpowered? For example: Hornady 200gr is advertised velocity is 2200 fps, so 221 gr should go at least 2000 not 1800s

Is there also a small bore channel out there? Not something like .22 plinkster but something about "cartidges that wear out your barrel faster than you can break it in stuff"...
