Welcome back to the Daily Shave! Today's shave is all about Peter Charkalis's newest base and scent. Peach & Cognac has a rather long list of scent notes despite its straightforward moniker: lemon, peach, orange blossom, tobacco absolute, mimosa, leather, vanilla, dried fruits, oakmoss, sandalwood, & himilayan cedar. The scent is probably what you are expecting though - it's fruity (more in a cooked/preserved fruit than fresh way) and boozy without being too much of either. I do pick up some subtle hints of tobacco and citrus but not other notes like leather. As with almost all of Peter's scents it is bold. This is not a soap you will be searching for the scent on. If you are sensitive to strong fragrances or share a bathroom with someone who is, I would take that into consideration.
On to the performance! I'm late to the game on Kaizen. I have heard glowing things about it but had yet to try it. It loads up easily - very easily - with that stringy marshmallow cream consistency. Work water into and you are rewarded with a wonderful lather that is as slick as they come. This lather lacks for nothing and isn't particularly tricky to make as long as you take care not to overload your brush. The post shave is fantastic as well. For those that don't like post shave products, this is a base that I would direct you to.
Lastly, the value. The A&E line of soaps tend to be a good value especially when the quality is considered. I think Kaizen ups the game here. Top notch performance at or below the price point of other top tier artisan soaps. So while it might not be in the impulse buy territory for everyone, it is one of the easiest ways to get a top notch artisan soap.
Thanks for joining! See you next time on the Daily Shave!
