Ariana has ALWAYS had strong hip hop and r&b influences throughout her discography. She's been slowly but surely progressing into this sound but it's nothing new. She's jus being more straightforward about it now.

the song may sound like the soulja boy song it may sound like 2 chainz song and it may even sound like princess Nokia song (even tho i don’t see it) but that’s cause the flow is common. she made it her own it’s not copying... it’s sick. She was billboard's woman of the year, she's broken numerous records this year. She doesn't need to elevate her status. Most music sounds the same these days, which is why everyone is so quick to jump on the bandwagon of "oh, she copied another artist". If you only listen to her singles you don't know the kind of artist that she is. From day one, she's always been influenced by hip hop and urban music. I usually like your reactions but I'm tired of people acting like they own or are entitled to a certain genre of music. Music is universal and should be a safe place for artists to express themselves. She's not taking anything away from other artists or cultures. She's one of the biggest artists and activists of our generation. She's just putting out music that she's proud of.

the thing is ariana has always been doing r&b and urban pop songs since the beginning... her debut has songs produced by BABYFACE. the thing is she did some super pop and edm songs for her second and third album and everybody forgot that... her debut single was an r&b song who sampled big pun and featured mac miller...

Not a huge fan of her's, but imagine a 7 track R&B album solely produced by Kanye. Ariana over chopped up soul samples would be hella' dope to me. Like how J Dilla & Erykah Badu meshed. Feel like Ariana with her vocal talent can outshine Teyanna Taylor easily.

I wouldnt consider Ariana a pop artist she has mainstream music her first song "The Way'" was r&b with pop potential and shes kept that vibe throughout her career but now shes being more authentic with her sound this is more reflective of the type of artist she considers herself and all these rap artist jacked Soulja boy flow he was the first to do it then all these other dudes jumped on it but they dont get the same retaliation because theyre black and men.
