Also the fact that Ariana is still very close friends with everybody from childhood says something about her character. She’s one of the kindest people. There are hundreds of videos here on RU-vid that show her interactions behind the scenes and she’s the sweetest, most down to earth person but doesn’t stand for anyone being mistreated and will speak up any time she feels she needs to.

The sound you're picking up on the "imperfect for you" line is called dissonance. In Layman's terms, it's when notes are used that theoretically fit the chord, but intentionally sound like they don't in order to create a feeling of unease. I think she used it specifically on that line because it makes it sound imperfect, which reinforces what she is saying. It's also something that's used a lot in musical theater, so she may have been inspired by that sound after doing so much work with Wicked!

The album is conceptualized from the Jim Carey film eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. In the film the main characters break up and erase their memories of each other because remembering is too painful.

Enternal Sunshine is a concept album based on the actual Movie called: Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind w/ Jim Carrey (if you want a real good definition)

i didn’t see any comment talking about ‘we can’t be friends’ so i will explain: that song wasn’t about a boy-it was about the public. how they turned on her over rumors & things that were never confirmed by those involved. so she sits with her truth, knowing she doesn’t want to argue. but she also doesn’t want to bite her tongue. that’s why she says we have her misunderstood. also when she says “you cling to your papers and pens” she saying we’re all waiting to judge her. then she says she’ll wait for us to like her again… in time. now, the video IS about a boy but it’s a nod to the movie that her album title and concept is inspired by.
