Apart from these 3 women, stan culture has really gotten out of hand. Awards are supposed to be based off the quality of performance, not popularity. Why are we assuming the performances are Oscar quality without having watched the movies?
It’s because they tie their identity to living through their favorite celebrity, feeling personally responsible for their success. Stans have to believe their fave can do no wrong, because any flaw feels like a reflection of themselves. A lot of them seem to think that the more they stan (like assuming their fave is going to win without seeing the movie) directly correlates to their fave’s success.
@@angelacuebasmercado4036 Last year though it seemed the competition was truly on ability and performance though, it sadly I think it's just gonna be that was one of the rare years 🤷🏽♀️ this past awards season was the first in a long time I was invested cause everyone was so good, but this year I'm just hoping for two actresses in particular and if they're not nominated then I'm out lol
A LOT of people aren’t going to cope that Glinda The Good Witch played by Ari isn’t “the Good” in Part 1 of Wicked at all. She’s a airhead bully- she’s a mean girl and the stans won’t be happy
Listen the art is art personality of the celebrity behind the character aside. That being said, I just don't think she has the acting chops to make this role anything special. At least judging by the trailer, and her past work. I feel like she would do better on broadway.
@@nixiemartian4658 that's exactly how I feel! It's not that she's a bad actress or singer; I feel like she did not add something new to the character, and this often happens in Broadway adaptations, as if the actors themselves want to re-create the magic exactly how it was with the original cast, that's just an impossible. Ariana is a great performer and maybe I'll be proven wrong when the movie comes out.
She DID win. The Best Actress Award was shared with 3 other actresses in the movie, which is rare. Acting awards at Cannes always go to one recipient, which likely means that the 4 actresses left a very strong impression. Unless you've seen the movie, you're in no position to say "she was just there".@@culturalresponse2447
@@culturalresponse2447She did win at Cannes actually you just have to educate yourself on how Cannes film festival and the awarding system at cannes works since you clearly don't know anything about it ... guess you're one of those Twitter people the oc is talking about
@@culturalresponse2447 you really don't know a thing about these awards, right? there's no nominees, the jury chose the emilia perez leading ladies cause they said they were astounding and couldn't just pick one She was just there? she left the day after the movie premiered
I am bias to Wicked but if it’s gonna be up for any awards - it’ll be for costumes, sets, hair & make up, all of the production design stuff. It’s upsetting that Part 1 is getting some toxic reaction when it’s very tame compared to Part 2.
Not gonna lie, that tweet at 2:01 made me so mad because people have been so mean to Cynthia Erivo online and I have been defending her with my entire life. I hope people know that Ariana is not her character and she is just nothing but a bully.
@shanel4294 oh they're not wrong, Glinda is a NASTY piece of work for about half the show. I think Grande is gonna have fun with it and absolutely nail the pathos of act II when it comes out. That said... yeah, Kayla's right, she's not getting a nomination, and even if she does, she's not winning, which has nothing to do with her ability or talent.
she already campaigned for the oscars 3 times and never got a nom (both for original songs and short film). she has 4 noms for golden globes and not a single win. yeah... swifties better be sat down for the bad bad news ahead
Doubt it. Most swifties know she’s not the best director, given her recent work directing her music videos. She’s very literal . But every fan base has crazies and delusional ppl so will see.
i think ariana grande has a more extensive problematic history than selena gomez if i'm not mistaken but any way the hate these women received is insane. also always see arianators dragging selena for no reason (i've always seen selena gomez celebrate ariana grande so i don't get why ariana stans are so obsessed with selena and love to degrade her) i've seen several ariana stans claim that winning at CANNES Film Festival is the same as a Kids Choice Award which is truly something...
yes it's extremely weird. i think it's also jealousy seeing as selena has been nominated for so many prestigious awards over the recent years for only murders in the building most recently an emmy nomination and they were just downplaying THAT along with jb/hailey fans (as usual). they are so disconnected from reality it is sad
Wait, winning a Cannes award is as same as the KCA? Are these Ariana stans being delusional? I am a fan of Ariana but geez, winning a Cannes award is a much bigger deal than the KCA lol
I’m kinda feeling that joker is getting molded into the epitome of camp. Like you really would think there’s a hint of self awareness surrounding it until Todd Philips opens his mouth and suddenly you realize it is indeed the essence of camp with all the mommie dearests, rocky horror picture shows, and flash gordons that came before.
I hope this is how it goes tbh. It sounds ridiculous, and if it be a terrible missed opportunity if it doesn’t go head over heels campy. Imo it’s the only way a superhero villain musical sequel starring Lady Gaga could genuinely be a success! It’s campy by its very nature
I agree. And what's hilarious to me is that Martin Scorsese was the first director approached for it, but he turned it down (for obvious reasons). And the first "Joker" is basically "Taxi Driver" and "The King of Comedy" smushed together. It even has Robert De Niro in it.
Oscar head here, I’d say that Selena Gomez is definitely the most likely out of these three to get nominated. Wicked is much more of a blockbuster and Cynthia Erivo is the one with the big showy performance if any acting nominations happen. Her being campaigned in lead also makes way more sense. That’s just how the Oscars are. Joker 2’s reviews out of Venice are SUPER divisive and it despite how well the original Joker did at the awards, the second one does not seem to have the passionate fanbase the original did. Gaga can definitely act but this movie is not going to be the vehicle to get her another acting nomination. Selena, however, is in a movie that many including myself are predicting for best picture and has gotten good reviews, and even though that best actress prize was for the ensemble of women in the film (Karla Sophia Gascon, Zoe Saldana, etc.), her performance has been praised and it’s definitely possible that she could come along with those other two, although I’d say they’re more likely (lead for Gascon and supporting for Saldana). She’s also 100% supporting btw. Just wanted to chime in with a perspective from that predictions world.
Gaga already has an Oscar, she’s fine. We need to focus on her getting a Tony and Emmy. I don’t even think Joaquin was that good in the og Joker. If we are gonna talk about a Harley Quinn Oscar nom, Margot Robbie should’ve been nominated for suicide squad (2016). Fight me! Ariana is more likely to get an Oscar nomination for best original song. I don’t see wicked getting any acting noms, it’s more technical noms I’d put money on. Selena says she wants to focus more on acting and she just recently FINALLY got an acting Emmy nomination for OMITB, and she seems to be more likely to get it. I honestly don’t care about any of this, really. Imma see all three for these ladies and just enjoy them.
Reception to Joker 2 is much more mixed than the first one. Plus critics are saying Gaga's character takes a backseat to Joaquin Phoenix. I don't think a nomination is likely, and certainly there is no chance of a win. Wicked will struggle to get any acting nominations because of its commercial appeal. But if it does, it will be for Wicked Part 2. Selena Gomez has a good chance of being nominated for supporting actress. And I don't think its out of the realm of possibility that she could win, but there will be 2-3 other nominees that might outshine her so we'll have to wait and see
Wicked Part 2 could do pretty well against a lot of the other big 2025 films because there’s no way they’ve give Superman or Fantastic Four or Jurassic World Relaunch awards for acting
Absolutely. It deserved the nom and the win tbh And I know I’m in a minority but I honestly believe Margot also should have at least got a best actress nom for Barbie. Her performance was just so brilliant from start to finish. And it had surprising emotional depth In moments that most overlooked because it was a doll movie Le sigh lol
It probably should be mentioned that all 4 lead actresses in Emilia Perez won a joint Best Actress award at Cannes and Selena has not individually won anything for that role
@@user-mz9iy9py6musually yes but not always - it depends on what the jury think that year. in 2015 it was a tie and in 2006 the six-member ensemble of the spanish movie VOLVER all won “best actress” as a collective. i believe that the jury this year felt emilia perez was a great film all round and the performances of the four actresses in those main roles were the emotional and narrative core of the film. i love when they “break the rules” so to speak :-)
@@RobyyJUsmileThe cast was nominated because there were so many female cast members. The panel quite literally stated that as the reason. The director of Barbie was on the panel and that was her statement.
I think Stan culture operates on this idea that whoever you support is an underdog no matter how famous or successful they are/have become. Like if none of these women get nominated they will be fine it’s probably not going to impact their careers. I do think it’s interesting all three of these movies are musicals/musical elements. Musicals have an interesting history at the Oscars so it may help for an awards campaign for Gaga and Grande than a traditional blockbuster but it’s not a lock.
the thing that annoys me with the ariana casting is that glinda is a character very close to my heart and now all the people who are obsessed with her are seeing ariana ‘as’ her with no separation, essentially projecting her personality onto the character and taking it too seriously. i’ve seen people before saying things like “i was hoping ___ would be cast” that stans with ari!glinda pfps will reply to with “well ariana was BORN for the role and i can’t see anyone else being glinda” like… no duh because you’re already obsessed with her? idk i’m glad that more people are getting exposed to wicked and i don’t want to seem like a pretentious gatekeeper especially because i’m probably getting older than a lot of people saying these things, but yeah
I honestly don’t think she was the right choice to play Glinda. The fact that there’s no separation between her and the character just makes me think that it’s Ariana Grande playing herself.
No, I think you're spot on (I say as someone who likewise is no longer a target demographic) but I've definitely seen this behaviour before, back in the early 2010's it was very prevalent across tumblr, exactly as you say. People who maybe were feeling isolated or marginalized, found an actor/singer/etc that they 'saw themselves' in (which is fantastic) and then become obsessed, and in turn twist the surrounding circumstances to better serve the idolatry of these singers/actors etc It's just parasocial relationships and projection all over again really. People getting their self worth through the praise/acclaim of someone they project themselves onto.
Ariana hasn’t made it easy to separate her from Glenda. She’s basically gone full method with Glinda. Even talking like her and still dying her hair that mundane blonde color. I don’t know if they still haven’t filmed the second movie which is why she still looks like her? But why is she still talking and acting like her? It’s just so unnecessary.
@@AnneettaLife I think the publicist of Wicked want to recreate what Barbie did. Margot Robbie wore looks inspired by different Barbie dolls for a year and Rayn Rennolds acted like Ken, playing Barbie's adoring boyfriend in a lot of interviews. I know we talked about the actors but I can't help to think that the people in marketing want to blur the lines between the actor and the character. Edit: Gosling! It's Ryan Gosling. (sorry)
Thinking Ariana Grande or Wicked has a chance at the Oscars besides technical awards like best song or best make up is like if Swities suddenly started to push Taylor for Cats during the 2020 season just bc it was another musical Oscar-bait movie. Childish ignorance and innocence at best or straight up delusion at worst.
And now they’re adding more and more woke Gen Zs to the Oscars voting block just like what’s happening in real politics with the Democratic Party. This is horrendous and it must stop.
I'm prepared for the reviews to come out and prove me wrong, but every time I've been forced to watch the trailer before every other film I've seen in the cinema for the last month or so, I become less and less confident about its odds
I know I'm the only one upset that Amanda Seyfried didn't get the role of Glinda. I don't think a lot of people know but she was the runner up to Ariana Grande and she does a very candid interview somewhere she talks about how she would finish shooting a scene for the drop out and then run to the Glinda audition and it was incredibly difficult because of how polar opposite the two roles are. She was actively potray stoic fraudster Holmes, then trying to turn it off and audition for Glinda. She would've been so good.

Yeah Selena’s chances are highest at the moment. Most likely not going to win but def a nomination. She chose a script and movie that will be taken seriously by awards committees , Gaga and Ariana lowkey went with roles that align with their images as artists, regardless of the movie / director / script which is gonna lessen their chances. And I say this a major Ariana and Gaga fan (seen both live) Selena just did it right
selena is actually the strongest contender out of all 3 according to multiple awards predictions and big name publications like variety, the hollywood reporter, indiewire etc. i can't wait for emilia perez, it just got chosen as france's official submission for the international feature category today so it's definitely sweeping nominations
Yeah, it surpasses both Lady Gaga and Ariana by a long shot. Although, as someone who has already seen Emilia Perez, I think "La Bête" would be much better for France's international features. The actresses did very well, so it would be deserved if they won, but god, the script is abysmal on many levels. I wholeheartedly hate this movie because of the writing, but none of the larger festivals are acknowledging its flaws. Whole discussion about this movie feels weirdly shallow

Stans aren't going to like this but Selena has a higher chance than gaga and ariana for the supporting actress nom. Go take a look at Gold Derby predictions
Selena Gomez is predominately an actress. Lady Gaga is predominately a musician. Ariana Grande is predominately a singer. That's why they have all received accolades for their work in the area they're strongest in but not in adjacent media categories.
I think Selena and Gaga might receive a nom but a win is near impossible the category is full of heavy-hitters, on the other hand, I do think all of them have a good chance for Best Original Song, specially previous winner Lagy Gaga and Ariana Grande
I've always liked Selena Gomez much better as an actress than a singer and was pretty puzzled by her decision to focus her career on music for much of the 2010s.
respectfully, this “discourse” was like 5 minutes on stan twitter the other day. everyone knows ppl on stan twitter are out of touch and insane so why even give it the time of day? just looking at these comments, this video is unfortunately serving as a vessel for even MORE hate towards these women. these Twitter users clearly are ignorant about cinema so just leave it at that, and let’s just wait for these films to come out before coming to conclusions - or better yet for the actual noms!
Yet another banger take Kayla. I think one thing we all need to keep in mind (those of us who are terminally online) is that I would wager a LARGE proportion of the people behaving this way, are literally children. They're under 21 years old, and behaving "appropriately" - at least for their age. We unfortunately have no way to know who is and isn't a child, and we have come to blindly assume that the person we're talking to is a fully grown, mature adult, but I don't think that's actually true in most cases. To be clear, I don't mean this in a denigratory way, just that I have nothing in common with a highschooler, and that's a completely normal, natural thing. It would be weirder, if I went up to a group of highschoolers, and told them to stop acting like teenagers and to act more like mature adults...
Yeah, alphaba is 100%. The lead role It's about her story, not glindas. She's in the story but she's not the main character. I don't care if the ayana Grande fanbase. Well, come at me for that. Sorry but she's not the lead actress
I mean there's a reason why Elphaba is the one who sings the most important (and best) song in the entire musical - Ariana Grande's fans may not like it, but half the people going to see the film will be going to hear how they perform "Defying Gravity"
Lmao people think Ariana is getting an Oscar for Wicked? The production looks pretty terrible, but even if you put that aside, it is clearly not what the Academy would nominate based on past awards seasons.

Tbh Ariana Grande as Glinda doesn’t seem like it will win anything just based on what we’ve been shown in the trailers. I still feel that Dove Cameron should have been cast as Glinda because she fits the role better. Regardless, if Ariana doesn’t win I wouldn’t regard it as an upset yet because the film hasn’t been released yet. They all make a lot of money and have been doing amazing without winning awards so it’s just a petty thing fans focus on because they want to champion the people they like.

Honestly the idea that Ariana or Cynthia will even get noms is so sweet; the Oscars have shown to have a heavy bias against action/fantasy/sci-fi films when it comes to acting noms, (though obvious exceptions exist). I wish less "grounded" films got acting noms if the acting was that good.
I just back from watching “The Substance” and I think it might be my film of the year.. Demmi Moore definitely deserves a best actress nomination, but I doubt the academy will pay it any respect smh
I REALLY dont want Ariana to get nominated for Wicked. Ive had divisive feelings for it ever since the first trailer, probably even longer. Ariana has honestly felt very off-putting to me, especially around this movie, and her behind the scenes shenanigans made it worse. But the clips of acting they've shown in trailers and otherwise, REALLY does feel like a nickelodeon or disney channel movie- but from Ariana specifically. Everyone else feels fine, but Ariana just?? Feels off, really. Even my brother said the same, and he's not that big of a musical guy. I feel like a lot of the stans causung the arguments and such, are people between the ages of 13 - 20. Maybe a little older to be generous, but people are wierdly fearless on twitter to say some abhorrent shit and take things too far and dont realize its too far until sineine gets hurt. Even then, some may double down.
I don't know... young Selena Gomez did better in Wizards than Lady Gaga did in American Horror Story. And I am a Gaga stan but Selena started in the acting world, so I believe her movie is good (not going to win an Oscar).

Unless Joker 2 can recapture lightning in a bottle, Joker was basically lightning in a bottle, I don't think it's going to the Oscars. For Wicked to not get the nominations it has to BOMB hard! The studio already has way too much money behind it.
I think Ari isn’t going to be very well received because it will be too different from Kristin. The Oscar’s love Gaga. Selena I always thought was a good actress and based on acting ability I think Stan culture might be pissed seeing Selena fairly winning based on acting ability.
The year is going to be a tough year for the Oscars. Last year was easy: Barbie and Oppenheimer. This year: Every movie for itself! A fight to the death!
ok i havent finished the video yet but it’s just hilarious to me that these delusional stans really think that their pop singers will win oscar for playing in blockbuster movies that haven’t even been released yet 😂😂😂😂

Also with Selena’s Cannes award, and I’m not trying to diminish it, but it’s never been an indication someone will be nominated for an Oscar. If you look up the past best actress winners from the last 10 years you’ll see none of them got a nom
I feel like a fair amount of people may not know wicked was a book before the broadway musical. And, the Universal had the MOVIE right to Wicked before the broadway musical was even thought about. Yes. They are adapting the musical but also the book. Edit: Wicked could most likely get some Oscar noms but in the tech categories like production design, costume design, and makeup and hairstyling.
A lot of stans don’t know how the Oscars works. Whoever gets nominated is an in industry and colleague thing which includes actors, casting agents, directors, and producers. Those ppl could care less of stan’s feelings and what fans hope their fav celebrity gets nominated for. It’s about creating the next star, who the industry thinks represents “acting” & the Oscars, or who needs it the most. Awards are about who is popular and hot within the movie/ tv industry and their narrative. An actor’s narrative is very important to secure a nom which involves many factors. Movies premiere at film circuits to get buzz and to get a studio with money to help advertise the film and campaign for awards. If the actor’s narrative is compelling along with the movie, high chances are they will get nominated. Most of the time, awards are not about who’s the best but who deserves it more, should’ve gotten one, or who the industry is trying to push. Lady Gaga’s narrative. She used her musician turned actor stint already and she fumbled with HOG. Joker 2 isn’t getting good buzz for plot and performances. However she was nominated b4 so chances are very slim. Ariana Grande has zero chances. Sorry but this is her first major acting gig and it’s for a popcorn blockbuster movie. Those types of movie rarely get acting nods no matter the leads. She is also mostly known for her music and was criticized for her acting when she was on Nick. She may be a theater kid but she has no footing in movie/ tv world. Selena Gomez has more of a chance but her team will have to campaign hard. Her film, Emilia Pérez, is getting a lot of positive buzz for acting and plot; specifically for Gomez and her co star Karla Sofía Gascón. She pretty much left music behind and focused on acting. She’s in critically acclaimed Only Murders, acting alongside Hollywood legends and holding her own alongside them. She’s starting to have respect in tv space specifically on Hulu which has lots of Emmys recognition. And of course theirs the personal life stuff to urge voters to care about them.
I think if the reception of these movies is any indication, Joker 2 won't be as big a hit as the first, and if Gaga's in it as little as the Venice reviews say, she'll be forgotten. Wicked could end up being a Les Mis-level, if not Cats-level, miscalculation that gets forgotten by the time the Golden Globes happen. That leaves Gomez, whose movie has positive buzz from two big festivals and the Netflix machine, plus goodwill from her murder show. She's the only one with a chance at a nom.
as we’ve seen by recent winners (Laura Dern and Jamie Lee Curtis for example) at one point they award an actress who should’ve most definitely won one in the past despite her performance not necessarily being the best this year cause “it’s about time they do”
Ariana isn’t that good an actor. Like I’m not sorry. Like yes she can sing. But she isn’t an actor. Also, as someone who is recovering from ED.. she looks sick. Like it’s scary to look at her
