Beauty standards were harsh and based on one race in particular, not mine, so I found I didn't exactly look like that ideal of beauty and worked to achieve it sacrificing my own self. I used to see other women as competition and never had true friendships with females. Nowadays, even though the world isn't perfect, and there are many flaws and extremes in our social movements, I can't help but feel so damn proud of how far we've come and happy for all the girls being born in this new generation that isn't as empty and one sided as mine was only a few years ago.
