@@PlayingDownUnder Sorry - you're totally wrong. The colon fits perfectly, as the second clause is the direct example of the proposition put forward in the previous clause. The colon works pretty much like an "e.g." would, if placed in the same position in the sentence. A semi colon would be totally out of place here. (I should know: I have a Master's in English Language and Literature and I've been teaching English for the last 36 years.)
