Zack Klapman is one of the Great reviewers out here perfectly mixes facts and good review ability but understanding this is entertainment also and weirdos like us watch reviews instead of TV that doesn’t involving keeping score and teams
Ariel Atom has become way too gimmicky & completely opposite of its original idea! It was an ultra light, minimalistic sports vehicle, costing around $20,000, while offering sports car acceleration, handling & overall feeling. This new model has grown too big, to wide, too gimmicky & WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. $100, 000 for this?! Please.
@@tropickman You're thinking of something else. The Atom was never a budget car at 20K USD. It's always been a boutique product made in very limited numbers. Too big? To (really?) wide? It's still significantly smaller than a KTM X-Bow & miles lighter. Seriously if this is too big & bulky for you, maybe you should consider a skateboard.
It's emulating formula/indy cars.... by that standard the ariels are actually underpowered. But that's just physics. Go ahead and say it -bUT tHeYRe noT stReEt smEaGLe
Love the scoring structure! Awesome to see both Dai and Zack wheel the car and give their impressions. You can tell they’re both enthusiasts beyond spec sheets.
The ariel atom always earned a spot in my heart for some reasons. It's just cool and I 100% agree that it's comparable to a super7. I grew up watching that race and even watched an anime of it. Both legends imo.
Would absolutely LOVE to drive one of these some day. I’m a car guy for sure, but more so a motorcycle enthusiast, and this to me seems to be the car equivalent of a motorcycle on four wheels. Absolutely raw, no creature comforts, and a direct connection between man and machine. In a sea of vanilla cars and isolation chambers on the road these days, it’s not surprising this car and similar other options out there have really taken off! 😁
@@BrendanEvan Hagerty doesn't need paywalls. They are an extremely well respected insurance company for general use but heavy in extremely rare collector cars. Drive needed to make money. Hagerty just needs to make the enthusiast CEO satisfied with content and be not financially overextend. Which is easy when you are an insurance company for collector cars that can use internal insurance. It is as good as this is gonna get folks.
I don't understand, how can anyone put a dislike on a video showing a modern marvel like this... 10 dislikes at that, ridiculous. If you don't like cars why are you being a hater, sheesh.
Wow, I remember watching Dai in the early 2000s and his English was not very good, now listening to him you wouldn’t believe what I just said. I love watching Dai grow.
I live in Europe and have had a couple of Caterham 7's over the least 30 years. After nearly fifty years since Lotus first intoduced the idea they are certainly classics. As for every day use as a car? Forget it, try driving one in the wet or snow. The Atom is the same kind of car, buy one for sunny Sundays and track days and use the Hyundai or Honda for the supermarket and commuting. If you live in a cooler climate, put it away in the winter. If you live in a hot climate you will miss the shade and aircon on a hot day. Believe me you need two cars!
Drove the old atom at a track day, totally agree that the gas is too close to the brake, the instructor had to keep reminding me a couple of times that I'm slightly on the gas when I was braking. Amazing experience though!
Director at Ariel says they reckon they could get about 550 HP out of this engine in the 4R package. Thats about £25 000 extra on top of the 4R package. That would make its power to weight ratio quite close to 1 HP/kg. I reckon in that config, with some street illegal pre-warmed slicks it could do 0-60 in under 2 seconds and do sub-9 seconds at the quarter mile.
This is my dream car, but at $100k it will remain a dream. Amazing that the pedals are too close, just like a formula car! Easy to fix though. I think you are funny, Zack! Drive through in an Atom, HA!
Only criticism is that two pro drivers can't work a screw driver and flip the gas pedal and move it out one hole. Sorry am watching all the vids, Plato, Chris Harris, all say the same but can't just adjust the car to suit you.
@@zackklapman3569 That's certainly good news. Hopefully Honda addressed that issue.. but they've been dealing with trans issues for ten years or more. So I doubt it. Either way, great review!
It would be cool to see how the AA scored against the other vehicles y’all have tested. Just something to compare the score to and drive debate. Great video overall!
He's right when he says you never really get the chance to rev it out - sounds like you need to change up before the engine even gets going. I don't hear much engine / exhaust, only turbo. I'm curious how this compares to an elise / exige.
When you put that thing back into the rack, do you get your quarter back? Also, do people leave Ariels lying all over the supermarket parking lot and not return them to the racks?
That's a great question. We don't have insurance options to fit every car out there. That doesn't make the Ariel Atom any less cool or exciting. We're always looking to improve our product offerings and may have a program that fits the Atom 4 in the future.
I'm not sure if I understood everything correctly, but I'm wondering what on earth do the Americans need such cars for in traffic surveillance and the speed limit they have, I think 50 HP and max speed 100km/h would be enough, greetings from the no speed limit country Germany
