When we installed a new haul rope on Ariel in Summer 2017, our crew spliced the two ends together with the help of a cable specialist.

Looks about right to me, 14 guys doing work and one guy telling everybody where to go. I"ve worked on crews to replace the Rope on three different chair lifts

Looks like the long splice loggers use to repair a stranded or parted haulback line. A really effective splice, although kind of a pain to do.

EVERYTHING with wire rope is a pain to do!

@@tomt9543 Unless you know what you're doing. I don't, I'm a timber faller, but I've seen old rigging slingers...

@@elonmust7470 I worked for the railroad in the mechanical dept. for 41 years, and for at least the first half of those years I was on the crew that went out when there was a derailment to clear it. The centerpiece of our operation was an Industrial Brownhoist 250 ton Derrick (NEVER call it a crane! Idk why!) accompanied by a car loaded with all the incredibly long and heavy slings we used in the process. Some of these were 2-1/2” wire rope, 50’ long, with a loop on one end, and a hook that took at least two people to lift on the other end! They frequently had to be unloaded and transported by hand be cause the Derrick was already hooked to something and couldn’t assist. Struggling to snake those slings underneath flipped over cars and locomotives would absolutely wear you out, and we worked until the track was clear and trains could run again! Young man’s work for sure! Many times we’d work over 48 hours straight, because the company was much more interested in running their trains than they were in us getting rest! Also had a lot of dealings with a representative from the company that supplied all our slings and wire rope, and the guys that worked in their shop doing eye splices, swedged loops, poured loops, etc. had an incredibly hard job! I respect anyone that deals with wire rope in any way! Merry Christmas!
