Return to “the good ol’ days” through old photographs & home movies when Phoenix was a small town, women’s amateur softball was as popular as today’s Phoenix Suns. And Phoenix Union High School’s annual pageant, Masque of the Yellow Moon, rivaled anything Hollywood had to offer.

I remember going to the theater just to get in air conditioning!! 35 cents well spent on a Saturday afternoon.

In Safford during special days a child's admission was lowered to 25 cents at the nicer theater and 10 cents at the older one.

Thank you for preserving this piece of Arizona history. I remember swimming in the irrigation ditch in Safford.

My mother and grandmother grew up in the downtown area of Phoenix. Camelback rd was as far north as it went. They had trolly cars in the downtown area. My grandmother did not drive so that is how they got around from store to store. The Orpheum was the only movie theater. I also grew up in Arizona in the old part of Glendale and it was all farmland and desert. It was wonderful, we rode our horses everywhere. I rode around the area where the Cardinal stadium is located now. It was a better time. Now they paved the desert and farmland is gone, more people, more asphalt and the temps are a lot hotter now.
