Interesting town, Benson ! Amtrak station was a laugher 😵‍💫🥳. Also, the San Pedro river area ….Fairbank, a mining town ? What type mine I wonder…….The old west….. Thanks again 🤠👍
@SeabeeTraveler
@SeabeeTraveler 2 месяца назад
ChollaJJ, Fairbank started out as a milling site to process the ore from the mines near Tombstone and surrounding areas. Before that they had to send all the ore back east to process, so it was a huge time saver. Interesting history. Thanks again.

R&R Pizza is actually a really good place to eat! The "Christmas Tree Stand" actually is connected to threaded rod. When tightened down. it helps hold the building together.

I grew up in Sierra Vista, and when I was a kid in the late 60s , early 70s, Fairbanks was not like this. I only remember three or four buildings (one BIG one that I’d been told was a mercantile and the large stuccoed building might be it. But there were no extensions to the left) and they were in ruins. For sure I don’t recall the building with the stone work AT ALL, or the building with the barred windows, but I might be wrong. Mostly we stopped there when we were riding our horses to walk up to visit the old cemetery on the hill. It’s still an incredibly peaceful place. They’ve sure done a nice restoration job, especially in making some things look original. Wish I had taken pictures of it back then.

I recommend the book ‘Going back to Bisbee’ by Richard Shelton. He was a professor at the UofA, and taught at the Bisbee public school way, way back. He also taught English at the State Prison where I worked. In the book He talks about the whole Ft.Huachuca/Fairbanks/Hereford/San Pedro/Bisbee area, and throws in fascinating historic facts. He was such a nice man. And it’s one of my favorite books about my home.

Hi Carol, Thank you for sharing that, and the book. They did a really nice job restoring it. I really enjoyed my visit. I would imagine horseback riding thru there would be an enjoyable experience. Thanks again and have a wonderful week!

@@SeabeeTraveler we were kids, without cars, and we rode our horses EVERYWHERE! From Ft.Huachuca, to the San Pedro, Hereford, the Canyons, Tombstone, Fairbanks, Huachuca City, and the Mule Mountains. Can’t even imagine the mileage we put on them. But it was the best childhood ever, to be with friends and be free to ride the whole Valley. BTW, thought I’d mention that I believe I was the first female Seabee, late 1979. It was a clerical error. They thought I was a guy (? Why?) , when I showed up at Personnel everybody’s mouths dropped open. They put me in the Master-at-Arms at ACB2 temporarily (about 5- 6 months) working for Chief Petty Officer Woods until I could be transferred to BMU2. I loved it, ACB2 was awesome and the guys were really nice to me, considering. Loved BMU, too. One of the best times of my life. Saw your tag; SeabeeTraveler, and had to subscribe. Thanks for great content!

The building at 36 minutes in with the black 'X' at the upper end - the 'X' is part of bracing. The 'X's were across from each other at the narrow ends and would have a metal rod reaching between each 'X' at that end.

It’s funny how the term monsoon gets miscarries or loses its meaning it simply means reversing or changing of the wins seasonally meaning in India, where the term comes from the winds normally come from the north over the Himalayan into the rest of the subcontinent known as India, in a summertime, the wins reverse and come from the Indian oceanbring lots of higher dewpoint and when they crash against the Himalayan, which are extremely tall squeezes out causing mass amount of rain, but monsoon has nothing to do with rain. It has to do with the changing of the winds.

Hi Katarina, That is interesting. When the season starts for us the storms come from the east instead of the west like the rest of the year. So that makes sense. Thank you for sharing that and have a great day!

The metal X pieces are on both ends of a rod that goes through the building on both ends to stabilize horizontal stress. Masonry building have tremendous vertical strength but not so much horizontal strength. I have seen these items on several of your videos. Many are more decorative.

Palo Christi or crucifixion thorn tree, is the plant. "Cages"?😂 that was funny. The old original Tombstone cemetery has lots of "cages", too. You were so close to it. The "Boothill" tourist trap Is Not the real cemetery at Tombstone.✌🏽

@SeabeeTraveler It's on the west end of Allen Street. W. Allen, west of hwy 80 and all tourist parts of town. The stagecoach house and barns are across the street from this cemetery. It's pretty large, with lots of soldier's graves. Not sure it has a Jewish section. But, I'm sure all the military stones are marked with the deceased religious preferences. No one ever goes to this cemetery. But, it's the official one. Boothill was allegedly, for undesirables. But, nah. It was put right there next to the hwy for a tourist attraction. Shhhhh, tho. They're still "too tough" on that.😂✌🏽
