Whoa. Did I seriously just find excellent video game tutorials without the obnoxious "terrible radio morning show host" persona attached to it?? Fantastic work.
_Sees foundations & expects boredom_ *_Nyght Busts out Octagons & exact measurements from foundations._* _Immediately Has My Attention_ I *love* the color coding!! 😍
Here I am struggling to build foundations and finally break down to watch a tutorial video and stumble upon this video. Thank you for the excellent content
I love all the build techniques you included. 😍 Duuuude, the roofing got a major overhaul. 😲😍 ERMRGRD the triangular roofing looks so good! Ohhh, Thank you for showing how you build your spiral stair plan. Split level is AWESOME. 🤣 "I have a problem." 🤣 It's a great problem. Need more split level.🤩 OHMRgrd, the hidden wall in nuts. NICE
They're SO useful for that now! The old mesh kinda looked a bit bland, but now that they have a new mesh & can be put on a horizontal? They're SO GOOD.
I can't think of anything! I'm struggling to roof things I build but I think that's just a limitation of the available building pieces, nothing else haha
Honestly, thank you. Every other video is for these great big unnecessary builds and I'm over here just wanting to know how to do a nice roof lol. Your hard work is appreciated 😁
Thanks very much! I was thinking about it. Seems there's quite the demand for it atm, I may have to spend some time & make more :) I'll have to figure out what to feature in it, haha
@NyghtWolf a few ideas Tree houses (much more viable than in ASE now that we have proper snap points) I know you did one but I'd love to see an in depth walk through on it. Beach side or 'ocean platform' style? Something in the snow that fits the theme?
Try stacking the spiral staircase and then put a pillar on the inside curve of it. Did that in a few areas of my castle build and it worked fairly well, and it doesn't look to bad. Probably best to put it in a corner. Could also frame it with pilalrs if its out in the open.
Oc-ta-gonal? You mean ɒkˈtaɡən(ə)l ? ah man that cracked my smile each time you said it. Well done. Very good video, informative and not too long winded.
Oh SHIT I had no idea. No one has ever corrected me on the pronunciation of that!? I wish someone had, I had no idea I've been saying it wrong since highschool FFS xD Well, thank you lmao
So the spiral stairs make a perfect 90° turn and fit into a square block perfectly. I find it's nice to use to save a little room for stairs. You can change which way it spirals too so you can have the top half spiral 1 way and the bottom half spiral a different way.
One thing that messes with me is the new ramps and stairs can’t stack like they used to. You used to be able to get two triangle walls and put a ramp on them then put a staircase on top of the ramp to make a sealed staircase. Perfect for making hidden areas since whats behind the steps is blocked from vision instead of empty space. Also just looked great.
One of the things I noticed is how notoriously bad fence foundations are, particularly when you're dealing with variable elevation in the terrain. I strongly recommend the use of a pillar and walls instead if you're looking for a straight wall as it would keep the wall at the same height regardless of terrain
Ohh yea, 100%. The only thing I ever use those foundations for are literal fence areas where I don't care if the height is variable. They're a BIT better in ASA, but not a big enough improvement to use them for building anything nice.. Hence why they were not really mentioned at all here :)
Not sure which building mod you used with the detonator, but if you had picked up the stairs at the bottom (being the only support at the time) the rest of that "should" return to your inventory. A really nifty new feature. Great job on the video. Very informative!
Ahh, not a building mod- that was part of Automated Ark. You might be right, I'm going to build that again & see if maybe it was b/c of how the mod 'picked' it up. Thank you!
Yea, if you pick up/demo a structure piece as normal then anything using that structure as an anchor point will recieve the same treatment. If you use the AA remote to do it only the selected piece is affected and anything using it as an anchor point is treated as it was in ASE. Found that out the hard way. XD
@@NyghtWolfAhh, I haven't messed with most of the mods, so I didn't recognize it. I've had Ark since it dropped, back before the Redwoods were a thing, and I've spent the majority of my time building and grinding to build. I am thoroughly enjoying the new system. I've been putting rails at the bottoms of the roof pieces to give them a little extra,(and on the back side of the roof panels as rafters) and thanks to you, I now know I can cross them at the tops! I don't usually put anything along the ridge line of roofs, but it will look great on the next thatch roof cottage I make. So thanks for that!
@@davidcarroll5683 I found that if you use the demo option on the support structure in vanilla, it will break everything instead of picking up the other items in the chain. Not nearly as useful as having all the pieces return to your pocket.
@@FyredrakkenYea, that's very good to know. Makes me wonder if Blitz knows that it's not working like it does in vanilla right now. I feel like it was when he first released it.
Pedantic point - After the initial Hexagon (6 sides), the next "ring" around it is actually a Dodecagon (12 sides) not an Octagon (8 sides) We cant really do octagons without overlapping pieces, which can create ugly floor patterns and snap points Captain Fatdog also reinvented the "perfect circle" which is actually a 24 sides polygon, but because its not a proper Platonic mathematical object it has no Greek name, but i would make a guess at Decatetragon, but its not a Platonic shape, and while it looks great around the 24 sides and can be walled perfectly, it cant be expanded upon, and will have ugly floor patterns and snaps etc Someone else had a completely different method for the perfect circle, i forget their name I heard one of these methods got patched, but i honestly cant think why Wild Card would remove a way to be creative Its brought some great changes to ASA, Wild Card employing the guy who created the S+ Mod for ASE (G G Fizz), was a smart move, but they need to let him add in a lot more of it, because now he is busy working for them he doesnt have time to redo S+ for ASA I liked the guide, you did it well, should be very helpful to those new, or new to creative building 👍
@@NyghtWolf My apologies if i caused any offence or embarrassment, that was not my desire at all i assure you I simply meant to put the correct names/terms out there I think such things are especially important, when dealing with YTers, who are in fact passing on information, or educating other people, perhaps you didnt consider yourself an educator, but younger people especially may be learning things for the first time from you, and thats something you should take pride in :) Anyway as i say my desire was not to mock, demean or cause any discomfort whatsoever There is never shame in not knowing something never taught or understood I firmly believe in the adage _"A rising tide lifts all boats",_ if a YT knows stuff, they can pass this along to their viewers, and ultimately humanity just got a little better, even if in a very small way And as i already said your guide is a good one, you explain things very well, very clear, the demonstrations are spot on, and it should help many people The fact i knew most of this already is irrelevant, i will always watch such things in case i learn just one more thing ❤ PS sorry for long posts, im old, as well as old fashioned, i cant seem to convey all i need to convey in short snappy replies 😄
Haha you're welcome! Just a seasoned ARK/Survival game builder :) I've been playing ARK since release & used various building mods over the past decade-ish! Also dedicated base builder friend in ton of other survival games I play with my friends like Valheim, No Man's Sky & Conan Exiles :)
You used a mod at 15:35 to remove structure pieces. WHAT IS THAT MOD?????? Fantastic. I've been removing pieces one-by-one and it's a real pain when you get to the foundations of a really large build and you have to take down each foundation by itself. What a boring task.
That's one change no ones mentioned... the ramps used to have a high incline. Higher than the roof even. I like this. I can make something cool happen with those I think. I have so many experiments to run tho before I know what I can really do on asa Ie do spikes snap? Do they clip through still?
Yea, it seems so. They probably tried to fit a single mesh into the square footprint so it wouldn't throw builds off.. but the fact you can't put railings on them either just makes them very 'bleh' imo :(
Ohh shit, that must be more of a feature of some mods I'm using. I know they had it for doors, but I honestly thought they had finally added it to boxes finally- Guess not! Sorry about that lol
is there any way to put a foundation on top another foundation? i can seem to raise it up or place another on top cause the ground is lower. i might have to put a pillar and ceiling maybe.
Unfortunately in default Ark foundation stacking isn't possible- your best bet would be pillars & ceiling parts with walls around the pillars. Either that, or you could look into mods like QoL+, or Super Structures Ascended, which adds some functionality like old S+/SS for building
