I agree that there should be more willing to help others even if it doesn't benefit themselves... I get what ya were sayin and the world would be a better place.
For the bugs you can use the insect repellent so they won’t interrupt the taming process Note: I god damn get it alright just stop replying with bug. And no I’m still not gonna change it.
You could legit re-release just the beginning of this video as its own video and call it "how to use the fish basket like a pro". Well done, I have learned a lot from you and I appreciate it!
literally the only guides worth watching for ark, Been watching your stuff since the very very early days and youve single handedly taught me how to tame so much. A massive thank you for that man. Also i request a full dolphin cover of the ark theme as that little clip the other day had my crying with laughter.
I love all bis videos.... Exept tutorials. They too long too slow and you getting tons of nice but not very important news. You could just say grab a fish kill all around and passive tame just like every single creature ingame. Im trying to not watch tutorials to this dlc to explore on my own
It helps to use the tek suit you start with. It's not hard to tame a shadowmane when there's more than one - you just have to kill the extras you don't want. You have to stay fairly high because they can phase jump to you in the air but once it is isolated it's much easier to get near. I managed to sneak up on both of mine in the tek suit without ghillie or repellent as well, and if I saw that I couldn't feed it ("has aggro"), I could jump a couple times and dash away in the air to be sure it doesn't attack me. Also, they sleep most between 12pm-5pm in the game, any time before or after they sleep much less or not at all. It helps to make a camp near the one you wanna tame, somewhere high up where it can't reach you.
1. You don't need Ghillie to get this done. You can turn and use the Tek suits speed to get away in time after you feed it. 2. You can trap it with 4 dino gateways and doors on each side, but make sure to give it room to do the sleep animation, to little room and it will get stuck just standing there. 3. Just hover above it instead of slinking around crouched. When it starts the sleep animation, just drop down feed it and dash back out with the power run the Tek suit provides.
Did you know that? While you are riding one and press L2 / LT ( tap, not hold) a symbol appears, on a dinosaur in your line of sight. Then, if you double tap L2 , you blink towards the back of the target. You can do this also while jump or in mid-air. This move is perfect for to pursuit a fleeing target or to stun one single flyer. And in close combat while the enemy is looking at you you will always teleport behind your enemy. It's the single variation for the holding button move, I think.
I'd like to add a few things to this, having tamed 5 or 6 max level shadowmanes. Coel over 1.4 size work best, pirahna are the least effective taming food. Big fish = few feeds and closer to 100% effectiveness. Refresh your fish baskets timers by going in the water with them on your hotbar. Completely correct on ghillie, but you should always stay crouched, never stand up or run. It can basically step on you before it agro's, if you're crouched with ghillie. It will generally reset taming progress if it agro's on anything.
Good video mate :D I found out that it also works with the tek suit if you consume a cactus broth, this way you can escape quickly after you fed the fish during his wake up animation so he surely wont agro on you :D It's also handy to bring a spyglass with you so you can see from the far weather it has already layed down or not, sometimes it will also be invisible when it lays down, just wait a bit it will show up quickly, dont go to it when it is invisible because you cant tell where its back is
I've noticed I dont need to run away after feeding it, it just goes invisible and ignores me and all nearby dinos until it sleeps again... not sure if it's just me or if anyone else notices the same thing
Thanks, I think I thought up a cage for this thing if that help standard style Rex or giga cage with a roof replace three of the gates for door frames use net gun to get it stuck in there, I have yet to test it but I figured I might as well suggest it and again appreciate the help
Well, I got pissed off after few resets, tamed a quetzal and moved my shadowmane to the lunar corridor to not deal with anything angry, the fish ended up being more troublesome at the end.
It's alot easier to sneak up behind it as it sleeps and quickly build a dino gate fence (4) around it. Not too small or it can't spin and do its sleep animation after you feed it the first time. Crouch and open the door to its back, feed it and close the door as you back away. The time it tales to wake gives the door time to close. It stays in the trap until it reappears. Rinse, wash, repeat.
@@princeofpersia9154 I worked this out on official settings. You do definitely have to be quick with the build to get it down before they wake up, but it's worth it not have to chase them, and risk them getting hit/aggro-ing all over the place. It took some time for me to get it down, and I practiced on single player to get placement right. But yes it works. I don't know if the devs will toss this up or not, as I believe they aren't "meant" to be trapped and tamed. As of right now, it works.
Ok, thanks for answering. When u put the Dino gates around it, how many are u putting down? Do the ends touch or are u leaving space to run in between so u don’t have to be opening and closing doors?
@@princeofpersia9154 I use 4, I'd like to use 5 to keep them touching but give more room, but I wasn't always able to get them all down before it woke. A faster builder could probably do it. I leave a small space between the gates, not to feed though (but that is a bonus when it works) but to make sure that the mane has enough room to spin and lie down after feeding. If they are too close, the mane can get "stuck" on the doors/frames and you have to demo them or it can't sleep. When this happens, most of the time they aggro on you as you demo, and you can lose taming effectiveness. So leaving them enough room, but not too much is key (this is why I wish I was fast enough to put down 5 gates, lol). This method is not without its headaches, but manes were never meant to be an easy tame. It wouldn't surprise me if this changes in time (like corralling the equus and losing effectiveness if they are trapped), but for now this works for me, and I die waaay less than trying it open field. I want to try other ways, too, there's always a "better method", lol.
I’ve discovered that if you use the net projectile when approaching the Water Kitty, you can lure its pack mates away while using the TEK Suit and then when they de-aggro you can surround the netted one in gates. It’ll wander around inside the gates and you can safely feed it when it goes to sleep.
I just got one of these on fjordur. I did have to keep clearing because the shadowmane will aggro to something and won't sleep. I used a trap which came with negatives and bonuses. Whenever the shadowmane aggroed to "something" I used a net projectile ( I do recommend it for this) to "reset" the cat. Wait for it to sit up once then go in at the second laydown, FEED it and keep it in the feeding cycle before you are interrupted again by respawns, other cats trying to congregate and so on. Good luck and thanks for the post Steve. Your vids are great!
Really appreciate the video guides you make. The voice and instructions feels like a legit hunter's documentary right out of Nat Geo, and with a host that sounds like Alfred Pennyworth.
Instead of the Ghilie Suit you can also use just cactus Broth, it works the same and you can remain in the tek suit. But you could also use both, then your like completly invisible to him
@@oranges814 Actually, I tried it and it doesn’t work. I found a new method though just place the piranhas down then cryo them until you have as many as you want. Then when you need them throw them out and catch them in a basket again.
Thanks you, this video was great! I knew you had to sneak up on them with a fish basket while they were sleeping to tame them but this video showed me how to do it correct! Thanks👍
Tip: You don’t need ghillie armor as long as you stay behind the head of the shadow and and crouch up to it. Ghillie armor just makes it so you don’t have to crouch.
wait seriously? i have been having issues trying to tame another one for so damn long. freind of mine's server lagged as i was jumping away from an alpha raptor and it pulled me back onto or into the raptor and i couoldnt do anything, lost the shadowmane i spent 4 hours taming all because of server lag.... been trying ever since with no luck. somehow sees me even though i approach from behind and everything. so its possible to do all this but with tek? do you need cactus broth as well or just do as you said? im literally looking for anything that might make it a little easier cuz holy crap these are way to hard to tame x.x
Ghille shortens the detection radius to 6m for normal creatures, but for shadowmanes idk cause they have really big aggro. And it's nearly imposible to stay on the back the whole time
Blimey, that’s a proper mission to tame, you’ve got to have some serious patience to get that badboy. I’ll settle for the other tames for now and come back for one when I can be arsed 👍✅ cheers Steve 👏
The astrodelphis is also really bad 100+ element for a 150 multiple hours of taming because the amount of element you can give it increases each time you feed it but can reset back to 1 if your not fast enough or sometimes for the lol"s and it runs after a feed and the taming resets super fast if it gets far enough away from you
@@deadeye8794 true but the crystal wyvern isn't hostile and you can pretty much feed it as soon as it lands as long as you've got any rideable mount if it goes a longer distance
Even easier method, create a 2x2 box 2 walls high, float over it and the Shadow drops into it, get away quick or retry the teleport it does, find salmon and punch them since it will agro all of them, capture them then cryo them to avoid spoil time, and feed the Shadow through the wall. Easy, simple, safe and little chance of it reseting
I baited one into a pen. Then it was Open, feed, close, and sneak away. IT cant run away after feeding if its in a box, or gnaw on your kidneys because the box. The key is keeping the dino gate you are using to approach it to be closed 2 seconds after it starts standing up. My only issue was I couldnt find some good fish. It cant be said enough that the bigger the fish, the better, but salmon might have better return compared to the other fishes. This is my go to strategy after the one I ended up taming jumped off a waterfall and attempted to drown itself.
Also a tip I found is that if you have your filled fish baskets on your hot bar, the timers reset so you can keep the same set of fish if you can find a nearby water source. (Must be deep enough to swim in.)
Stop argueing on how to tame dinos, everyone has a lot of time or not that much time on their hands, some people can spend 1 day hatching a giga and a lot more imprinting it and find that fun, some dont have enough time or dont find it fun to wait more than you actually use the creature, a good tameing speed is one that dosent insta tame everything but one that dosent take hours to tame a simple turtule.
Mate you was the frist ark youtuber i subbed too n here 4 years later you are still the frist youtuber i go too when i need help in the ark 👍🙌🙌 thx for all the help over The years with yours awesome vids 🙌
You are my favorite ark RU-vidr you helped me in my time of need in this game or for just entertainment you have no idea how much you’ve helped me Thank you And you make me laugh with your jokes it’s fun watching your channel
It's now known and better understood to trap a shadowmane after you have killed everything in the area. Shoot it with the net gun, if it was sleeping at this time it will stand up and down but don't worry. Then place 4 fence posts around it in a rectangular frame then the door frame walls around it. Now you can tame it without having to track it and you won't lose taming effectiveness so long as you use fish that weighs over 1.4 so use only Cole or salmon for this not parana. I love your videos dude your the best. Just thought I would add this update to your channel which you may want to consider revisiting it as well now that most people know this is a far better way to tame a shadowmane. Although yes this is the real way but, you should use cole or salmon that weighs 1.4 or above to get maximum taming effectiveness.
Tip for baskets if no pirana if its enabled place a wooden cage on top of the fish and then the basket it helped alot But place structurs on top of dinos will be needed to do this its a setting
when the blue bar is full, hold in the attack button to do an execute bite. can be x5-x8 normal dmg. i did put my 140 SM in a 8, 3 on side 1 each side dino gate. usaly its body did clip outside the gate and feed it safe. i used the gate due it was a pack and massive spawn of all evil around. one of the best dino`s in the game. due its good in water to. wish it had climbing like the drake. but cant ask for it all.
Amazing job! One small thing tho: As your shadowmane attacks creatures, there is a meter above you hotbar that wil fill up with each attack. Once its fully filled up, hold left mouse button for an extra stong attack!
You really need an idea on which one you're ready to tame because you also have to go through the trouble of preserving the fish baskets. So with that part I'd say catch 10 fish and cryo them. Find a shadowmane, clear the area, then re-basket the fish, re-clean the area then go after the cat. Although I wish we didn't need full gillie
I ended up using a skiff to drop mine into a small pen of signpost, like the ones from the maewing tame. Futher testing required, but it seems to break line of sight while they're up and searching, but still can't approach from the front. Also, learned from Teachers Game Too, the new net is super useful in getting them to lay down a lot faster.
If you own a Tek Skiff you can kidnap it with the tractor beam and take it to a more suitable taming location and drop him or her then proceed with Nooblets techniques , I never considered the Piranha technique brilliant!
You know Steve, you can use the new net launcher and they don't aggro. You can feed them a couple of times, back away, wait till you can net them again and... voilà
I do this on fjordur, and im not sure how well it works on genesis, but if i see a good shadowmane but it is in a pack, i will aggro the entire pack on me and lead it around a bit until some members slowly aggro on other random creatures untill its just me and the shadowmane (i do this before i feed it)
I don’t remember if you mentioned this but make sure you pick the highest level fishes you have to feed it, took 2 fish for a 466 shadowmane on my server (lvl 183 fish and lvl 483 fish, both piranhas)
When you charge up this bar right above your inventory slots then press C button and the Shadowmane will do the Mega Slash with its claws . Both at once
I learned how to tame these dudes because of your video and now playing on genesis 2 a Shadowman is my 2nd tame (I do have 3x taming rates and it was a level 20)
Steve, 1st ty. If I hadn’t watched this 1st it woulda been rough. On my 2nd night I got a lvl 55. Then got the confidence to get a 135m & 145f pair. Your the GOAT Steve. ggZ & ty
How to reset agro: get away on tek suit by either running away or using superman blast to get away. Doesn't need a video, it's pretty simple but the tame does take a really long time.
