Hello! Love the video! Wanted to make a few corrections - we actually have a fire department with two fire department buildings here in McCrory. Also, the Ken is open for events, plays, musicals (Motown and Hee-Haw) and holiday shows. Plus we have a lot more cats than what you saw :). Our closest movie theater is located in Searcy. It is apprx 35 minutes from here.
Lots of people don't go to a movie theater because they have air conditioning and 9000 channels of cable. Air conditioning killed off front porch socializing, cable TV and big screens eventually killed off the rest... 📺 📡
We don't just burn all of our household rubbish outside as you implied. But we do take our leaves, tree prunings, etc to our "burn pile" and burn two or three times a year.
I think I discovered this channel around this time last year? Crazy how time flies. Thank you for showing America people from the outside never see on TV.
Brilliant, detailed, cozy videos just like those rural cozy homes. Love the rural USA. So calm and beautiful Easily one of my top fav RU-vid channels! Keep showing the rural sides of USA.
You are showing rural USA like no other Film or person ever shown. Wonderful comments. It's something like sitting in comfort of home and watching other unknown and unseen places of US. Really grateful for the coverage. A tonne of Thanks.
Love what you guys continue to do. Best information about States and Towns on RU-vid. In reality, I don’t think people miss the movies that much, with the junk Hollywood puts out 🤣 Home Sweet Home!
Having lived in Arkansas for 70 years I have been to all three towns you visited and also the towns in the delta you featured. We have both the sublime and the ridiculous in this state. Thanks for showing a little bit of both. You do fantastic work. Sincerely, Jim Thornton
I always appreciate you noticing the cats. My son moved to France temporarily some years back, to work for a college fellowship scholarship he received. He had just met and was getting serious about his then girlfriend, who stayed behind in Texas. She adopted a foster cat that she named Joyce, to dote on while she waited for my son to return. I knew my son was serious about marrying her when he doled out 2K for Joyce's vet bills! My son and his girlfriend married in March of this year. They planned a honeymoon in Japan with friends that would take place in October. They went to Japan, were gone for just over 2 weeks while a friend stayed at their apartment to look after Joyce, who lived indoors. When they came home, my son called me to tell me that Joyce came down with an acute breathing problem within their first night home. They took turns watching over Joyce during the night, until she passed. My son was very sad, he said that he wished they had not left her to go overseas, but they had no idea she was ill. Little Joyce represented an important turning point in their relationship, cats and dogs can be so good at getting entangled in our hearts during the short time they are with us.
Hope you and Nic had a great Thanksgiving with your family! I can imagine myself going to the Ken on a Friday night in the 1940s and seeing Lana Turner, Lauren Bacall and Gregory Peck on screen!
Rural Arkansas is beautiful, I prefer the Ozarks in the northern section of the state. The poverty can be striking but the people out there are tough. Sad to see rural areas continuing to lose population but I get it. Gotta go where the jobs are, way she goes.
As you mentioned churches. When we were in August in the US I can say that along an Interstate in OK or MS there were more churches than we have in Europe :)
The newest and most classic Joe comment "the Dollar Trifecta". Your humor is insane, I love it. Now besides cats the "Trifecta" must be mentioned when it is noticed in a small town. Very good video as usual. I'm with you on the big Victorian and older homes even though I live in a 1200 sq. ft. cabin on Canyon Lake (it is easy to cool in Texas). I've always admired those homes and enjoy that your videos feature them when you encounter them. It seems good towns have cats also.
Good to see so many kitties out and about. Nice weather and nice little towns. The places with so much 'stuff' around them befuddle me. I would have had a good ole Southern hissy fit when the first piece was dropped off. Thanks Joe.
Very cool house where the doctor practiced. Great name for a grocery store! Agree. Very nice homes in the area. I love the desolate roads. Nice courthouse in Des Arc. Nice to see so many cats! Looking forward to TN!
Great video Joe! I love Arkansas! I spent a lot of time there back in the 1970s. My grandparents owned around 150-200 acres and my parents had 10 with a spring running right through the middle of the property. The water was so clear that you could see crystal clear to the bottom. You could see the rainbow trout swimming through as well as other fish. This was in Yellville Arkansas. My Uncle opened the first pizzeria back in the early 1970s. Cappies Pizza. It was very successful and he opened a second location a year later in Mountain Home Arkansas. The natural beauty of the area is breathtaking. If anyone remembers, Dog Patch Arkansas was a big tourist spot back in the day. It's gone now. It was the hometown of Lil' Abner and his wife Daisy Mae in the Al Capp comic strip that ran from 1934-1977 in newspapers around the country. Great memories and natural beauty.
Even better than the name of the supermarket in McCrory, AR is the fact that it's employee-owned. We need as many employee-owned businesses as we can get if we want to have a decent standard of living for our workers in this country.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip i didn't see any thrift stores,, but i did step away to check my wood heater for a minute. it's cold here in bama, 20's again. it hurts my feeling seeing all those empty buildings, i could really use one.
Maybe it is time for Unions in the USA to get stuck into big buisness as they really run the USA, and certainly not for the better good of the Country.
Love this one. 4 cats, at least. The most I've seen in videos in awhile. I am glad you take the time to film them for us. The town stats are really valuable in understanding what we are seeing. Thanks again. I always look forward to your videos.
...love these videos of countryside america . I'm in the uk and if I was to visit the states, these are the kind of places I'd visit. Are you local to this area?
McCrory, Arkansas was known as the most prolific producer of Sprockets in the Country. They were widely known for some of the best quality and variety as well. In 1973, all the local Sprocket producers moved their operations to China.
*Loved this video!* *I keep hoping to see the small Arkansas town of Earle in your videos!* *My Mom was born there and my parents were married there!* *My Grandparents, Great Grandmother (and other family members) were buried there, in the Gibson Bayou Church Cemetery.* ♥️ *Safe travels, always!*
I was raised just a few miles from Gibson Bayou Church and Cemetery, and occasionally attended services there in the late 60's and early 70's . I've had a few acquaintances and friends buried there in the past few years. It seems to be a place where a lot of the people who grew up around here want to be laid to rest at. I suppose it's a calm and peaceful place to be buried is the main reason. On a sadder note, Earle, once a bustling small town,is now one that seems to be going downhill at a rapid pace, but that is pretty much par for all of the small towns in Northeast Arkansas. All of them need an infusion of jobs to remain viable, but the jobs are all going overseas, leaving these once thriving villages in distress. What a shame on the business, industry, and government of this country.
@@bomcelya368 That is so sad So much history there My Grandpa worked just up from Earle in Twist, on the Twist Plantation, in the early 1900's My Grandpa was very good to the workers there, unlike some others I need to write a book on some of these stories Along with my parents & other family members,, we were let inside Gibson Bayou Church by their friend, Melvin Watson. I played the piano and we sang old hymns That was in about 1994, before the Church had to be rebuilt 🌹
OZ// Thanks Joey (& Nicole) for what you do- I,m always looking for the next one ! I counted 5 cats ! good work ! must say I like to see Dogs running free, as in OZ, we have LOTS of laws (over-governed if U ask me !) Yes, those beautiful old southern homes- Aghh, what a shame to see them sit empty and left to rot- a tragedy. Love your work Joey, its a shining gem. Cheers Cherie.
I enjoy your videos, and kinda travel vicariously thru them. I love the Seattle one, especially the Space Needle. I also love seeing your wife with you, and commenting, Thank you both.
Another great video, thanks. I used to just take note of the Dollar General stores as one of the things you tick off your list like cats and fire department, but I saw that expose on John Oliver the other week about the chaos they exist in and that was a real revelation. We are not without our discount stores in the UK, but one person running a whole store from serving to taking deliveries to stacking shelves, hats off to them.
Hey Joe: Recently you traveled to a couple towns close to me. Brinkley was one and it is only 25 miles from Clarendon. You would like Clarendon which has gone down since I was a child but, it has a lot of history. It is the County seat with the court house (antique) and several historical homes that are on the register. Clarendon sits on White River and known history of fishing, hunting, shelling, etc. There has even been a couple movies made here and several books written. Just wanted to throw this information to you in case you are ever in this area again. I truly enjoy your videos.
I grew up in Ft. Smith, Ar. Now my work takes me throughout the state and I love looking at the old houses but also hate seeing those that are in disrepair.
Hi guys! Just have to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. Joe, your voice is perfect for taking us along the trip. BTW I'm a crazy lady who talks to you and answers you as you comment. Lol!
I don't think that's crazy at all. When I talk to the camera I envision myself talking directly to you - and others, of course. You answering is the best compliment you can give me. :)
Lots of cats for sure. It is too bad that some of those grand old houses have fallen into such disrepair though. Those are like the small towns that I grew up in back in the 70's they have a great vibe to them. Thanks for sharing and you have a great day. Safe travels
👍Interesting: while New England is famous for its foliage in the fall, it seems that the Deep South, too, is leafy grand. Also, owing to the spacing between plants for summer's scarce water, each distinct November tree is set apart and holds our attention with its own individual aesthetic claim.👍
I had to tune in for this video, because I've traveled through this portion of Arkansas, and did hunting and fishing, extensively there. I lived on the other side of Arkansas, just having narrowly missed hanging in Fort Smith (hehe!).
By my count I believe we saw 5 cats, but I maybe wrong. That beautiful large house on the corner in the last town was amazing. Thank you for sharing Joey.
Good value for a home. That black and white cat was a tuxedo cat. 👀 watching. I could ajust living here but need to keep working for 7 more years. Smaller houses are better!
I gotta say it again: You and your wife will love, love, L.O.V.E. Wilson, Arkansas. They have a Bed and Breakfast now, also a Five Star restaurant with lovally grown cuisine. It has been transfomed into a resort town. It is the jewel of the Delta! English Tudor beautiful! Let me know if I am bugging you, please. I know I have commented this a few times. I just know that you will love it.
Hey bud! Lifelong Arkansan here. We've been watching your videos for quite awhile now. You have been in the Arkansas Delta a couple times now and I am wondering why you haven't traveled the western half of Arkansas? You are missing the Ouachita Mountains, the Boston Mountains and our great Buffalo National River. Some of the most beautiful parts of Arkansas are in the western half. I know you were in Northwest Arkansas once and we loved the vid but you are depriving yourself of some fantastic views.
We do plan on visiting Fort Smith, Fayetteville, Eureka Springs & Berryville in the spring. I want to show that area of Arkansas when it's green and warm.
Interesting to see Des Arc from another viewpoint. I remember my granny going to the fish man to get fresh fish. My family is from Hazen although the majority have moved away. I was little when we left
Sorry a little late getting here been spending time at the doctors getting ready for eye surgery. Awesome "Cats" Found so cute. I liked McCrory but you did an awesome ride along. Thank you for your hard work, Say Hi to Nicky!
Awe I read some of the comments that came across the word Thanksgiving. So I'm hoping you see this message. My husband came across your videos. I watch you and Nicole every day for hours. I enjoy your traveling so much !!! I've always wanted to travel . Because of my daughter and her health we just weren't able. We did go to St. Louis. Loved it. The arch was being worked on . I've learned a lot of history. I love when Nicole reads the plaques on them. Anyways I've found you both. And I've subscribed. 😊 I live in Barling Arkansas just right by Ft. Smith. Our town is so small we have a Sonic Drive-in . We have a small courthouse, post office, police department and fire department some of the men are volunteers. We have one school K-5 . We have 3 lights in our town. All on the main highway. Known as Fort Street. We're close to Ft. Chaffee . Where Elvis Presley was stationed at. We have a great history here in Ft. Smith. Judge Parker ( known as the hanging judge. ) I hope one day you both make it this way. And maybe our path will cross !!❤ I would love to meet you both. We are at retirement age and love it. We stay home mostly. We're not in the best of health. Sending this message as I watch your video. Love and hugs from Arkansas. 11/30/2023
Wow, thank you! We plan on visiting Fort Smith this coming spring, when it warms up a bit. We will definitely visit Barling! You've made it sound interesting. :)
Nearest city is searcy or Wynne. People go to the movies there. Only 30 minute drive. Very good town and school district. Everyone takes care of one another. I have family that live there.
A lot of them big beautiful southern homes are vacated due to termites or the family wouldn't sell to anyone after a passing in the family which is common in the south.
An awesome video, very relaxing ! Nice quiet towns, so interesting, and I love the old theatres ! A good day for cat sightings, too ! Thanks so much, Joe, always enjoyable.😊💚
Come to Southwest Arkansas! You've covered all surrounding areas but here, much like the delta it is kind of a dying area but with lots of history as well, we have lots of cool historic downtowns to look at. While you're here don't forget to explore the Ouachita Mountains, its our little hidden gem here in Arkansas.
I always look forward to your videos. This one sure had cat sightings but no firehouses, very puzzling and surprising? Maybe the volunteer FD is off the beaten path, normally the VFD is a social magnet for a community! Thanks for taking me along!
I really enjoyed all your videos. You have a tendency to not talk a town or community down like another RU-vidr does! You do your research and not just the research on poverty like he always does. What info you give is way better interesting than just crime and poverty. I mean poverty and crime are important, but they are "not" what makes a town or community what it truly is! Anyway, you find the good in each place you visit, which is very refreshing. You even find a small home pretty and interesting. You always talk about the history of a place too, which is nice. You don't just go and find the worst neighborhoods and cut the entire place down because of that area. Every single town in the U.S. has in some way, or another been impacted by so many different factors over the years, that usually cause a loss in population. You usually mention things like that. For my town it was the interstate in the 70's and then a major lumber mill that left our town. But it's still my hometown, I've never left and don't plan on it. It's such a great place to raise a family. As for why a big, beautiful home might be sitting empty, my thoughts are that a lot of the time it is just simply family issues with the children of the original owners, of course lots of other reason too. I know of several in my town that way and it's all because of family issues. Keep these great videos coming!
🎶On the road again...🎶As I follow along with your travels, I'm reminded of William Least Heat- Moon's claim to have visited every county in the lower 48. Do you think you'll ever get close to that? A five-cat episode...could this be the most cats in a video yet? (is anyone keeping track? 🙂) See ya in Tennessee!
country mart got one in coffeville, kansas long time ago used to be safeway when it went out that when homeland's buy safeway only safeway is out like going to west i miss safeway store's i hope you joy nico had a good thanksgiving day saw all your kido's?? ty for this video
3 cat's 🐈 👍 . These town's weren't that 👎 bad to ME . I could 👀 myself living here ALL peacefully and quiet yes Sir even though I didn't really 👀 a WHOLE lot of jobs now that is kinda scary Joey even YOU have to admit that one. But all and ALL its still some kind of life in it . @Joe & Nic's Road Trip
There are a big difference between small rural towns of US and those one in Europe. US has extense towns, people live far away from house to house. However in Spain, my Country, houses are together and we see people on the streets to any hour of the day.
As a foreigner, I like the small town vibe.. at the same time, I wonder how life is in such places, wish the population grows but still stay relaxed, not too populated. Enough for businesses to thrive
Compared to European Towns these small towns in the USA look dead of life, i guess European towns really are built for folks to be a closer knit community.
@@duncancallum yes which is sad. But people have to have income, and some get bored, some want better opportunities. Hopefully small towns grow back, or maybe new ones will appear. City is nice, but the simple life of small towns..I think is much better, hopefully not too far from the city
Because rural America has always been the heart of the nation. City dwellers aren't as important as they loudly proclaim every election season. Without farmers and others they look down upon, they'd die within a few days.
We have a great town for you guys to to see! Next time you are up in Washington State, there is an extremely interesting town. Ritzville, population…..1700 people. But this is what’s really Interesting, a town of this size has a hospital, golf course, police station, swim park, restored beautiful movie theater! How about the only Carnegie library, completely restored and working! If you are ever back in Washington, Ritzville is on I-90 west of Spokane in the middle of the state. You will be blown away!!!!
Hey! LOVE those videos. I relax and feel chilled while watching. Thanks for this great content! Could´ya check Out Woodson TX? Its south of Throckmorton. Would be great to see this Town, i think of moving there
Great videos and historical information. If you can checkout Crawfordsville Arkansas. It was the gambling moon shine hub in the 1940 thru 80s. Old blues artists performed there BB King, Albert King, Johnnie Taylor etc. Elvis Presley is rumored to have owned property there.
It would be nice if you listed the quality of the water provider and the city infrastructure in these towns with low crime rates and affordable houses. As a retiree I would consider moving to that kind of town.
I love your videos !!! I watch one every day !!! You need to check out fort smith arkansas I'm a resident there definitely some poor and run down areas and then very beautiful areas !!
Upon second viewing the black and white beauty seems Siberian Mix for sure noted by the flick of the tail. As a friend of a Siberian it is a notable trait
I can't believe a movie a theatre is missed, because we have giant tv screens in homes today and can watch most movies in the comfort of home. Even in cities there can't be many people interested in trekking out to watch a movie! Feral cats are in every part of America, surely you've noticed in your travels, poor cats. Arkansas, like any other state has its pros and cons.
Really love your channel..And some places you go are great but seems a lot of squalor most of the time.. Maybe you should go back across the river and see Cleveland Ms.. Christmas Lights now and Grammy Museum.. Neat Ms Delta city.. Check out Airport Grocery.. And come down to Philadelphia..
What you may consider as squalor, lifelong residents of these small delta towns consider it as just poor folks quarters. Squalor brings a very negative impact on the description of the dwellings and surrounding areas of the less fortunate of the population. Although poor, most would give the shirt off their back to help a stranger in need.
I think I’m correct in saying you just pretty much gave the definition of squalor. Maybe you are saying for those “less fortunate “(poor), it’s ok to not clean up your residence ect..@@bomcelya368
My lovely long haired cat is named Lee-Loo. She watches all Joe and Nics videos with me here in England. I just say “Cat!” and her attention to the screen is instant. Good work Joe.
