Good video..i will say though, it isnt about the loss because BYU took advantage of every mistake we made. They deserved it. But what hurt the most is the huge amount of mistakes we made especially when we had momentum and just lost it
@jayargh1132
@jayargh1132 Год назад
I felt like the turning point for Arkansas was when they went for it on 4th and 1 and didn’t convert. At that point BYU was down 10 and Arkansas had all the momentum. Following that huge stop BYU went on to score 17 unanswered points I believe.

BYU fan here and I have no problem with you saying that Arkansas was better. I agree. BYU won because they took advantage of most of their opportunities. Could have gone either way and I was holding my breath down the stretch. Fun game. Great recap.

14-0 up in the first 5 minutes. Huge crowd. Fast start. Got the mojo. It’s what you want. Put foot on neck and press. What could go wrong? Over aggressive on the trick pass TD and run TD play? Just need better recognition. Huge disappointment but hats off to BYU. Took advantage of our miscues. 125 yards in penalties? That right there is a nice run game by a back. Latham was just a penalty machine. Too tired at end and just playing graba** and got called for it. Over & over.

You can say Arkansas is the better team but a good team doesn’t have 110 yards in penalties. Not better in this game.

The holds committed to prevent a sack after getting beaten are the prime example of penalties being linked to not playing as well as an opponent.

@@TheFranchiseCAgreat example. Also, Arkansas used very aggressive play on both sides of the ball-you’re definitely going to get more penalties that way. There’s some risk-reward trade off that’s being missed here.

One the BYU TD run, I agree that it was blocked just right, beat both LBs. That was Thomas that took himself out of the play, tho, not Spence. Thing I was most impressed with on that play, tho, was how Pooh Paul recovered from being blocked out to run the RB down and make the tackle--granted, too late, but it would have been a TD saver if it had been a longer run. Just love to see a LB with that much speed.

After the game, BYU's special teams coach said they'd noticed that the Arkansas punter tends to shank punts when he's under pressure. So, they designed plays to put more pressure on him -- not with the intent of blocking a kick but to get him to shank one. It worked.

Excellent breakdown of the trick play. I was also struck by the depth of the initial throwback-thought it was obvious and couldn’t believe it worked so well. But like you said, The aggressive nature of the defensive play from Arkansas opens up risk to those kind of big plays. I think that explains the stat line. Arkansas either forced a three and out or BYU scored, while BYU had more of a bend-don’t-break defense in this game. Nobody on the BYU side is going to claim deeper talent on the roster, but you play for points, not yards. BYU won on scheme and execution (and a little bit of luck with one handed catches), not just Arkansas miscues.

@@powerhoursec I think it’s a new system and we have some new pieces. Oline has talent but not a lot of experience. Ultimately after watching your video it’s going to come down to KJ making the right decisions. As bad as the oline has been I feel like he had enough time to make the right throws. 15 penalties is bad … won’t win much with that number. A lot of them were penalties on crucial downs. We have to make corrections and stay with the hot hands. Go to AJ and Satenga in game. I like Dubinion but AJ was getting it done.

It's almost all the O-line. I am a BYU fan and I said late in the game, BYU really has a good chance even down by 7 since the O-line of Arkansas wasn't all that good. I don't know what happened either. Absolutely unacceptable. No reason the Hogs should have lost that game... FFS What I saw that lost us the game, in no particular order. I'm just a couch coach so just my two cents. * Penalties, penalties, penalties. It's the same problem every stinking year *KJ's passes are either at the ground or slow, floating passes that take too long in the air, giving time for the defenders to snuff out yard after catch *KJ must have had it drilled in his head that we don't want him to get hurt. So many chances to run down the middle when the blue sea parted but he didn't. Several chances to bulldoze a defender and keep running down field but instead he runs out of bounds. 3 and short/4 and short and we don't let KJ keep it for the first down *KJ seemingly can't turn his head and run through his progressions. Seems he already had his receiver picked out before the play starts and he consistently looks at that direction *No long bombs which has been what's been working for us the most in the previous two games. I understand you need to get the run game going to open up the long balls but we barely threw longer than 20 yards *Consistently trying to force the run game and get it working when it clearly is not, going three and out and putting our defense back on the field. Again, I understand you have to have a strong run game to win games and open up passing but it feels like running is being forced to work when it's clearly not *Poor punting *Oink Doink *Did I mention penalties? We have the talent to be at the top of the game but just poor/new coaching all around
@DKWalser

No reason the Hogs should have lost that game? How about the fact BYU outplayed them? BYU spotted Arkansas 14 points in the first three minutes and Arkansas was only able to score 17 points the rest of the game! BYU's defense was stout and their offense capitalized on our mistakes. Yes, we made mistakes. So did BYU. We scored 17 points off their mistakes. But, give them credit. They may not have as much talent as we do, but on that particular Saturday, they were the better team.

@@wyattpeters1969 Dude, I never said the refs didn't miss any calls on BYU. But, when a QB is running the ball, he's a ball carrier and not a passer. If ball carriers get hit in the head, generally, it's not a foul. All you have to do is touch a passer's helmet and its a foul. Is that a stupid rule? I think so. But, it's the rule. Again, if I could, I'd change the rule. I think we've gone too far in trying to protect the QB. However, it's hard to blame the refs for throwing a flag on a clear violation -- no matter how stupid the rule may be.
