I'm from Portugal, but since i was a child and took interest in geography i love the USA, and particularly Arkansas, for it's natural beauty and scenery. This song makes me nostalgic of Arkansas, and i've never been there. Next year i'm gonna finish my studies and start working, and who knows, hopefully i'll visit, never to leave again.
When I moved to Arkansas in 2011, I never imagined I would like living there. After I left in 2014, I missed it like crazy. Now, my fondest wish is to return. I think anyone who has ever lived in Arkansas can relate to the sentiment in this song. It really does run deep.
Rich Shumate your right this song represents this amazing state but it only represents a little bit of it there is so much more than just the land there’s the people the friendships we might not be as fancy as some places but we sure are as special plus you ain’t lived till you’ve seen one of our rodeos😜
@ Ethan Rathburn - The earliest citation of the name “Arkansan” is from an 1851 article in the Southern Quarterly Review. “Arkansawyer” comes along only in 1874, from J. M. Morphis's History of Texas. Other standard reference works generally state that “Arkansawyer” is an archaic form preferred by some natives of the state. It may be archaic but it is nevertheless my preference. Have a great day.
I used to hear this at bedtime as a kid and spent nearly 20 years trying to find it. My father passed away September 2013 and a few weeks ago I found he'd bought the cassette single. I played it in his room and cried.
Today is the first time I’m hearing this song. I fell in love with it instantly. I’ve been to Arkansas a few times to visit family members. It’s a beautiful state with beautiful people.
As a native born and raised Arkie I realize that we have our issues, just like everyone else. However, there are two things I will NEVER have to apologize for: the beauty of the state and the warm-hearted attitude of its people. I’ve literally traveled all over the world and whenever/wherever I've run into someone who’s either a fellow Arkansan or has every visited the state there are such wonderful things said about one and/or both. In fact, I constantly hear comments such as “my gosh, I can’t believe how beautiful your state is” or “you have some of the friendliest folks in the world”! Yep, wherever I go I’m so proud and grateful the spirit of the “Natural State” goes with me (and always will); that’s because “Arkansas, you run deep in me”!!
I've been around the world and back 3 times. I travel this country from coast to coast and south to north. There is no place like Arkansas and it will always be my home.
Beloved country songwriter and music creator advocate Wayland Holyfield has passed away at the age of 82. He was an ASCAP member for 43 years. Holyfield left an indelible mark on country music with his clever, deeply-felt songs. Throughout a decades-long career that took off soon after he left Arkansas for Nashville in the early 1970s, Holyfield wrote over 40 Top 10 hits and 14 #1s. His songs were recorded by dozens of the greatest artists in Nashville and beyond - including George Strait, Don Williams, Anne Murray, Brooks and Dunn, Reba McEntire, Randy Travis, Ronnie Milsap, Julio Iglesias, Crystal Gayle, Conway Twitty, Barbara Mandrell, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Charley Pride, The Oak Ridge Boys, John Anderson, Waylon Jennings, The Judds and George Jones, among many others. His songwriting credits include country classics like "Could I Have This Dance?," "Some Broken Hearts Never Mend," “Till the Rivers All Run Dry,” “You’re My Best Friend,” “You’re the Best Break This Old Heart Ever Had,” “Rednecks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer,” “She Never Knew Me,” “Put Your Dreams Away,” “Your Love Shines Through,” You’re Going Out of My Mind,” “Stop the Rain,” “Down in Tennessee,” “When You Get to the Heart,” “Wish I Had a Heart of Stone,” “She Reminded Me of You,” “Don’t Count the Rainy Days,” “The Blues in Black and White,” “Only Here for a Little While,” and “Meanwhile.” His song "Arkansas, You Run Deep in Me" was named the Arkansas State Song. ASCAP President Paul Williams commented: "With heavy hearts the ASCAP family mourns the passing of songwriter Wayland Holyfield who wrote among the most enduring country hits of his generation. Wayland served on the ASCAP Board of Directors for 24 years, during which time he was one of the most effective and fierce advocates for songwriters. We will miss his intelligence, his remarkable wit, and most of all his friendship." Holyfield was a lifelong advocate for the rights of songwriters. In addition to his two dozen years on the ASCAP Board (and four years on the ASCAP Board of Review), Holyfield was a past president of the NSAI, as well as past chairman of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation Board. During his time on the ASCAP Board Wayland testified on behalf of songwriters and composers before both the Senate and House Judiciary Committees in Washington, DC. Some of his many accolades include induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, an ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year award, the Nashville Songwriters Association International’s Presidential Award, a CMA Triple Play Award and two Top Country Hits Awards from Music City News. Holyfield is survived by his wife Nancy and their three grown children, Greg, Mark and Lee.
I have never loved a state as much as Arkansas it's truly a beautiful place with wonderful people everyone look out for each other here and there's nothing like it maybe one day I can see this state in an independent Dixie we have so much to be proud for
I was born in Arkansas and lived there until I was 13, then I moved to California. I'm 16 now, but Arkansas will always be home. Although I live 2,000 miles away, I visit as much as I can, and I spend as much time as I can outside enjoying the nature of Arkansas that I love the most. Arkansas has a very special place in my heart and I plan on moving back there some day. I miss my home.
To everyone who asked, I ended up moving back there with the military in 2015. I wasted the time I had. I didn't really start going out and enjoying the beauty of Arkansas again until I was a few months out from moving away in 2018. I didn't have the best time but it was my own fault, I wasn't who I used to be when I posted the original comment. I did get the closure I wanted, though. I got to live there as an adult and go everywhere I wanted to go. Within two years of leaving, I wanted to move back. I've felt that way since, but I'm certain that I'll be back someday.
Arkansas born and breed. Have lived in many other parts of the world; however, NEVER, EVER have I found a place as wonderful and friendly as the Natural State. During my many travels around the world I've met many folks who have been to Arkansas and almost universally they comment on both the beauty of the state and the genuine warmth of its people. I only smile and say that yes, I have been so blessed to have been able to call Arkansas my home for all these years. When my time is done I will thank the good Lord for many things: Jesus Christ, my family, all my worldly blessings, and last, but not least, the place of my birth and burial. Arkansas, an incredible place I'm so proud to call home!!!!
We are transplants to Arkansas. But I have to say I LOVE Arkansas. Our first fourth of July here I sat watching the fireworks and thought to myself, Welcome Home. We've been here 7 years almost 8 and every time we leave I always look forward to coming back home. I've never felt that way about another state. I love this song!!!
Julie Kozlowski Julie, I am from Arkansas and every time that I leave the state, when I return, I want to get out and kiss the ground when we cross over the state line. I know how you feel...
I left Arkansas in 2003. I returned in 2020. Yet I few like the bigest cheater. Still she loves me and forgave her. I will never leave Arkansas again. I will live for her love, and die for honor.
I grew up in Texarkana, and I have worked for the University of Arkansas since 2002, I will be retiring in March 2024. We had a couple of visiting professors from the University of Scotland in Glasgow who had traveled all the way over here to study the ancient bluffs along the Buffalo river. This was in 2016. It was my assignment to transport (drive) them where they needed to go, these 2 gentlemen completely fell in love with Arkansas and her charms, one of them said he would retire here if his wife would let him, I stayed in touch with him, and he now lives just outside of Harrison Ark. Just thought I'd share that with y'all.
We moved to Madison County, Arkansas when I was 15. I never felt the pride in my home state of Indiana that I felt for Arkansas. I used to listen to this song every night as AETN signed off. It always brought tears to my eyes! I have lived just a few miles over the line in Southwest Missouri. To me it doesn't matter which state - the Ozarks are home!
Exactly!! Old Lexington and the Little Red River all the way baby!! Born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Moved to Brooklyn New York when I was 19... Then about 10 months later to Old Lexington. I have root on my mom's grandads side to Covington county, Alabama... That's at the bottom of Alabama!!
My childhood friend is Pam Holyfield. Her Uncle Wayland wrote this song. I have lived in NC since 1989. I lived in LA from 1981 to 1989. I still consider myself a Arkansas girl. Always love the Razorbacks!! Go Hogs!!
I'm from Hotsprings..been all over north america all 48 ..retired from driven truck there is no place any where else like Arkansas im proud to call it home an yea i do tear up when ever i hear this song.
I thought of this song out of the blue and had to listen to it. I didn’t expect it to hit me so hard. As a child, I heard this song so many times, when the station went off the air at midnight. It brought back a lot of memories.
I was born and raised in Arkansas. I moved to Georgia at the age of 22 and later moved to FL. 4 years ago I returned to Arkansas to be near my family. After 15 years of being away, I can honestly say that it was totally refreshing to come back in my home state. You'll never find another state like our great state. Arkansas is one of the most beautiful places on earth and it definitely 'runs deep in me'!
I'm from Maryland but I moved to Arkansas when I was 4 years old and have been here ever since. My mom moved us from my grandparents house where we stayed for two years after the move to Little Rock. Yeah I live in the city but I take pride in the beauty of our land. Maryland is where my first houses are, but Arkansas is where Miley heart lives, Arkansas is my home.
Go overseas on deployment for months . Come home to Arkansas with this playing and i promise you will have tears in your eyes and will go to your knees and kiss the ground
Born here in 1960. I’ve moved away a few times, but always came back. Arkansas is in my blood. I love my home state. It’s not perfect, but it’s always been and will always be- home!❤️
Bonjour Amérique j'aime vôtre pays, et il y a de la belle Nature comme chez nous en Europe. Bravo j'aime je vous passe un bonjour Amérique et Canada peuples , prenez soin de vous. 😉❤⚘⚘⚘ ,
Thank you French citizen (forgive me if I assume wrong.) Just know, lots of us Americans still remember what your beautiful country did for us in our fight for Independence. We also remember the ideals written by some of your most enlightened thinkers. Thoughts that inspired our Constitution and love for freedom. Thanks for your kind words, and much love from The South in good Ole USA.
While I was born in Missouri, I have lived in Arkansas for most of my life and don't see myself moving out of state. I loved this song when I first heard it when I was a child and still love it to this day.
I remember when AETN would sign off with this song. When we found out we were moving to Alaska, we made a copy to take with us. That was in 1995. Been back 25 years now, and never moving again.
61 years in Arkansas. It's home and good people. As a disabled elderly citizen I wouldn't live anywhere else. My family's ancestry goes back pre civil war in Arkansas and this song is a treasure.
I was born and raised in Arkansas my home state WOO PIG SOO, I still come home and visit family. I have a lot of memories in Arkansas. I love this song.
I just love this song. It makes me realize that I could never be far away or imagine living in another state. Marshall,Ar has been my home forever. Arkansas is the only state I could live in.
When I was younger, this was just another song we had to learn in school. But now that I've moved away and grown up, it brings tears to my eyes. I had no idea how much this song would come to mean to me. I'd love to go back to Northwest Arkansas where I grew up... maybe go to a hogs game while I'm at it... WPS ;)
I’m from Missouri and grew up hating the Razorbacks. In a way I still do. I’ll explain. As the song says, my roots run deep in Arkansas. I’m the first generation of my family to be born and live outside of Arkansas. Following WWII, my parents moved from Arkansas to Missouri because there was the opportunity to purchase timber land in the Bootheel of Missouri. They worked and were able to buy the land they helped to clear. We went back to Arkansas every weekend. At the time, Arkansas meant nothing to me. Finally, in 1983, I met the girl I was to marry. I moved to Arkansas. Now after 40 years, and because my “roots” do run deep here, Arkansas runs deep in me. It’s the greatest place in the world to live and this is my favorite song.
I was born & raised in Kentucky. In 1979 I married & moved to Arkansas. 44yrs later I wanted to retire go back to KY. No! I Arkansas is my home. Arkansas runs deep in me. ❤

Arkansas is truly the best place on earth. I have lived in Arkansas my whole life. If i go to another state i feel out of place. Its truly in my blood and my heart. Im never gonna live in another state.
I live in Taiwan now. I studied at University of Arkansas. My families had the most wonderful time in Arkansas. We missed the most beautiful state, Arkansas.
I remember listening to this song when I was a child growing up in Arkansas. When I'm having a bad day hearing this song brings back so many great memories. No matter where I may be, I will always be from the natural state.
when I was still living in my native land of Hawaii, I used to sing along the song "Rock Me Back to Little Rock", never expecting for it to come true, lol, but here I am, lived in NLR, Lonoke, back to Levy area, then to Hot Springs, El Dorado, here now in Stuttgart. I loved Hot Springs. Visited Eureka Springs, Petit Jean, quite a few places. Loved Mt. Nebo. The people are so nice here. The weather is frightening when tornados are taking event. I pray a lot during storms. Old Mill is beautiful. Toltec Mounds is nice. There is a lot here to visit and enjoy. Down home life. God bless.
