Some footage from driving the Echo Camp Back Track at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, outback South Australia. This was on the same trip where we crossed the Simpson after which we headed south to the Flinders Ranges.
Both running 18" wheels but with very different tyres
265/60/R18 Mickey Thomson ATs - Deegan 38
275/65/R18 - Nitto Ridge Grapplers

Nice to see Discos in OZ eating up that country. Could never understand Aussies disdain for Land Rovers especially for heavy towing caravans instead of dual cab utes.

cheers Jack. There's a lot of "unreliability" stories that get repeated ad nauseam about Land Rover D3/D4 in Australia. Of course they're not without issues but I don't believe significantly less reliable than equivalent 4WD offerings.

Thanks and tyre pressure very much depends on the track type and conditions. For this track we had generally good traction and pressure was around 30psi I think, perhaps more. For other surfaces with less traction I do lower further.

Just stumbled across your videos and have been binge watching them. Great stuff. I have a 2014 D4 also set up for outback travel also with the Compomotive 18" rims. May I ask what tyre pressures you were using on that track (if you remember)

Thanks for that. Probably around 30-35psi. Traction there is pretty good.

@@michaeldallimore8590 make sure you also check out the Mt Jacob Back Track which can be done as an extension of the Echo Camp Back Track or as a separate drive.

Hi Scott! Yet another great video! Have you tried the D5 and/or the new Defender? If so what do you think of them compared to the D4?

Cheers. I've only had a couple of short drives on road in the D5 and Defender. Pretty sure there'll be a Defender in our future but that'll be a few years away.

I think we lowered to maybe 30psi but could have been higher. Good traction so not too much concern.

It is the video frame rate picking up the pulsed signal sent to the LEDs that’s not detectable by eye. Haven’t yet found a camera setting that prevents it.
