When I saw Old Testament Doktah torn between sacrificing his beloved VS dooming all of mankind to an oblivion that he jumpstarted by himself... bro, I had to go hug my dog for a while...
I think the best part of this event was the disodence shown in the doctor. He was a good man, shown the aftermath of his and his civilization's greatest triumph was the sorce of unfathomable pain for who came after and put at the fulcrum of an impossible decision as he would have to betray someone by the end.
@@graycard668 the doctor's conflict was absolutely something that elevated this event. The inner conflict when you already know the outcome makes the building despair far worse
I almost skipped this video because of the title and came in expecting a cliffnotes version of the event filled with memes every half minute. Glad I didn't though, this helped clarify a lot of the things I may have misread and further cemented my appreciation for Babel. Count me a new fan who's looking forward to your future recaps.
@@bionicfactory1 Ever since Vigilo came on global and then I read it, it just became known that Doctor is not merely a simple self-insert default gacha character. We only knew that they did bad things in the past that led to the fall of Babel, but what we have yet to know is the weight behind it all. We all can tell how Doc had a lot of hesitation throughout the story. Even to the point they are filled with guilt all the time knowing that Originium had done many horrendous things to Terrans civilization that even just listing it all up would take a whole 10.000 years. Man, if I had to make a character writing tier list, definitely put him at the top alongside few others.
I reread Vigilo before getting into Babel and Kal'tsit reveals how the Doc lost their memories in that event. We just didn't have the information to put the clues together when it released
Honestly, top 3 best stories in Arknights all around. Granted, that's not a high bar to clear in my book as I've been overly critical of pretty much everything HG has ever done with this game, but Babel truly stands out as a one in a lifetime wonder. Oh, it still has its share of issues and it's arguably long overdue but still, this is what peak Arknights looks like and the last time that happened was 3 years ago when Twilight of Wolumonde and Children of Ursus released. So yeah, I've waited a long time to relive that kind of experience. Read Babel, it's well worth your time.
Me realizing terrans are from talos-ii (except sarkaz) and originium is why they got animal traits. Overall theresa misunderstanded doctor intentions and kal'tsit betrays her creator (doctor) for not supporting his goal. If she didnt confront him things wouldnt have been chaotic and violent because terrans are still primitive.
Me too! In general, I find it really funny that this kind of story discussions started getting more steam not even because of Babel, but because some content creators sought to discuss the types of players of arknights and how the community is constructed and some people said: "Wait, what about story discussion content?" And putting their money where their mouth is, more story discussions were created by more people! Also keep in mind that Bionicfactory has been in the story discussion game for quite some time now. He's been doing it for over a year now!
Babvel brought me to my knees, with my eyes crying rivers so that not even the tissues could stop it, just thinking about it hurts, even as im writing this im tearing up. I will never ever do a re read as that would devastae me even further and I sincerely hope that we, the doktor never regains his memories.
@@bionicfactory1 no way, they will probably bring more trauma in the future, I survived frostnova but chapter 8 broke me regarding the teacher and Talulah
Those who think Dokutah is evil misunderstood the story. They are a mastermind from a civilization that literally transcended mortality. They should have not cared, yet, they care. Dokutah has proven to be caring and kind-hearted, and Theresa saw it. Eracing their memory is not vengeance but an act of compassion: she saw Dokutah's care conflicting with the memories of their lost civilization's vision of future, she saw the struggle that keeps them down. Without that horrible memory, Dokutah can focus on the things they care about, on Amiya, on helping the Infected... Like in one of my favourite songs: 'Don't take for granted those little things. Those little things are all that we have'. Damn, I'm cutting onions again(
9:44 that reminds me of the one comic that seemingly starts of with a vegan joke, where the dude eats meat and the girl asks "enjoying the meat, murderer?" but then the subtitle of the comic says "i wish we could have one dinner where she doesnt remind me of the fact i killed her relative"
Babel event itself is good but if you have followed Arknights story or at least main story and intermezzo story it become peak. Even the word just being mentioned and they don't even explained it like, Caerula Arbor, Talos2, Stargate, Oracle. It makes you excited. Not only the story event itself but it's also fun to watch a streamer reading the story or video content related to it. I think that's a big plus when you follow the story because you get more excitement. Reading Arknights story is a commitment but for a long run it's worth it because it feels like you keep eating good.
Babel could definitely be read as your first event and still hit all the emotional peaks but it's the long road the story has traveled that makes this event so peak. Like you said the references to the other obscure phenomenon around Terra and beyond that only invested readers will understand makes it work on a deeper level
@@bionicfactory1I think it should 100% be read before chapter 10. The added context made chapter 10 and 11 so much more enjoyable as I re-read certain parts of it.
I want to see the full circle of Amiya being given the responsibility in Babel, and then accepting that responsibility in chapter 14. Avoiding the use of clearer language to avoid spoilers regarding Babel (even thoe this vid does the job for me kind of)
Since AK already made an anime... It isn't impossible for this to be adapted as "Special OVA"... or something similar to an animated movie. W already got one.
This event was beautifully made, making me experience both hate and sadness. I love how we finally get(.....you said donkey gdmit...im still watching while reading this yes.)the full reason of why Kaltsit is pissed at us and what happened to our memories. I like how the self insert is not 'flawless' as most of these games nowadays make them out to be (in gachas at least) even ending up being a sort of an enemy (even if we regretted it) till theresa removes our memories. It was the doctors choice that made me feel anger with what they decided to do. Babel was such an amazing story, a depressing one, but a great one.
@Lendario0X It's from Evangelion. Uniting the entire world into one being. In this case, turning the entire world into one connected group of information rocks.
My hands are already bleeding Well, new story has fallen into the podium of the most depressing stories in the Arknights lore: 1st Babel 2nd Rhodes Island's Records of Originium- Rhine Lab 3rd FrostNova
I have a bad feeling the barrier will have an impact in the future. Originium will probably be addressed again. The recovery of alco memories over time and connections to Endfield.
after this event make me realise that doctor is not completely evil its just he willing to sacrefice everything to safe it all including her love one but i think doctor its just playing chess that he will always find a way to win and never make a sacrefice if its not necessary and will make one if its necessary
Calling the doctor evil is definitely a simplification of their character. Reading the event its very easy to see why they are doing what they are doing. Like if the doctor was evil they would never have risked anything by going to see Theresa
It's on the list for something I wanna talk about at some point. The phantom lore goes crazy so I'm hoping for another phantom centric event where we can actually meet the Troupe master
24:58 you mentioned The Shard and showing the picture of the airship, for what i know The Shard is a tall tower on Londinium that capable of making Catasthrope. ive read similiar statement in my local community stating The Shard is indeed the Airship. am i missing something?
From my understanding the shard is the technology that the doctor gave Theresis that is capable of controlling Originium which is the fundamental process that went into building the shard airship. Basically they named the airship after the technology
is there any reference on when they mentioned the airship as The Shard? or its just a speculation because the tower and the airship is part of The Shard technology?
Well at the end of chapter 11 it's implied the two are connected. I suppose the shard would be the tower itself but it requires the airship so neither would work without the other. As the tower generates the catastrophes and the airship unleashes that energy
