The funny thing is about Alex Mercer is that he's not just bio immortal He's also capable of adapting to pretty much anything and everything and considering how easy it is to kill people from the Arknights world is Mercer could simply absorb a very powerful person and gain their abilities as well considering he survived getting carpet bombed before and can become completely and utterly bulletproof which would make 90% of their weapons completely useless against him and considering how strong Heller was when he fought Mercer it would make sense that Mercer let himself be killed because he never used any of the devastators or call infected to help him not to mention with his near limitless regeneration he could have easily prolong the fight but in the end Mercer let himself be killed though I don't think he's actually dead because the black light virus is basically a hive mind and Heller is now the main mind.
I also believe he's not dead as we can see he can come back alive with a little drop of his blood and also while fighting against Heller, Heller cut off Mercer's Hand. So It's possible for him to be alive but who knows
I mean there's always the possibility of Alex straight up taking over James considering that Mercer actually wanted to be killed so he had to make someone strong enough to actually kill him which was Heller or so you believe because if you think about it what's stopping Heller from becoming another Mercer someone who sees humanity is insignificant and needs to be destroyed but in reality is actually trying to make someone strong enough to kill him just like Mercer and then there are those types of people that believe that Heller is actually way stronger than Mercer despite all the evidence that points to Alex Mercer not just holding back in their fight but also trying to help Heller to kill him because there are many people that believe Heller overpowered Mercer which is just stupid. P.S you also have to remember Heller never faced someone like Elizabeth Green who somehow had psionic powers and after consuming green Mercer should have those powers so yeah Heller won but Mercer let him win and is either still alive inside the hive mind currently dormant in waiting for reactivation.
Oh and before I forget the idiot I think it was a TikToker or something said that the reason why Heller won was not just because he was stronger than Mercer but he was also more skilled than Mercer which is literally stupid I mean this guy literally forgot that Alex Mercer the original prototype has absorbed thousands of military officers and special forces members and if we take into account that every time someone consumes a person they gain all of their skills and memories then Mercer isn't just more skilled than Heller he would be easily one of the if not the greatest melee fighter in his world.
simple because he has The Hope right by him his daughter we know Heller was connected to his family more than Alex could ever be that's the main reason why Heller wouldn't try to destroy humanity
