This was from 1979. I was a newbie at talk television. She was delightful. I hosted the daily, live show for 13 years and always remembered her gracious class. Thanks for watching!!
I am always impressed by how much warmth, wit and grace come across in these videos of Arlene Francis. And while she seemed to be a straightforward and sincere person and had a mischievous and sometimes even raunchy sense of humor, she handled it all with so much poise and class. Fascinating mixture. Anyone who could call her a friend or even only an acquaintance probably could feel blessed. And I am glad that we, the ones who were born too late and too far away or simply weren’t lucky enough to meet her as well, can still experience a bit of the wonderful Arlene Francis through RU-vid. So thank you for posting this clip!
What beauty and what class. She is so calm, so elegant, she speaks with such mildness and respectfulness. Her eyes are like a perpetual smile. She is like America's Queen.
What a lovely elegant lady. I’m in my 50’s, but never realized until now how sexy proper diction can be until viewing old Arlene Francis clips on RU-vid
Love this. I had long been a fan of hers and so enjoy watching reruns, RU-vids, and whatever format I can get of the old 'What's My Line' shows. She was so correct in stating that those shows were 'prima classe' and she most handsomely contributed in her physical, mental and verbal beauty!
I love her on What's My Line and I love the dresses of this era of interview. Look how the flowes/possibly chrysamthemums match the host's outfit and yet I love AF outfit in shades of lilac. I love the late 70s look and the 80s look plus early to mid 90s when women still dressed up for the most part. Mostly ended in the 80s, but some stretched it through 90s. Yes I'm old fashioned, but I wear a dress 6 out of 7 days a week because they are just pretty. Thanks for the upload.
A very talented, actress, author, interviewer with great self effacing modesty - her years of appearing on Whats My Line were testament to her ability to capture the very essence of being a star performer.
Gods2ndFavoriteBassPlyr agreed. After watching What's My Line reruns for the past month, I truly wish I had "It. She seems so genuine and open and fresh. Would love those attributes personally.
I don't think Arlene in her best dreams saw that 40 years down the line, thousands of people around the globe would still have the same opinion about WML!
As a kid growing up in the 70s I'd see her and wonder who she was past being a panel guest on so many game shows. It wasn't until recently where I'd rediscovered her on the original WML and found out about her long running radio show and her early NBC TV show and the impressive list of people she'd interviewed, etc. - so my initial impression of her as "just a panel guest" was very short sighted. I always loved her very distinctive voice, cadence, mannerisms and attitude, though.
Love Arlene Francis ;-) I actually discovered her through RU-vid on the game show What's My Line. What a classy down-to-earth lady ;-) Would you happen to know the year of this interview? I'm guessing 1980 since I have her book from 1978. ;-)
She made a few other film appearances, including the TV version of HARVEY with James Stewart and Helen Hayes (and her husband, Martin Gabel), and the film version of ALL MY SONS in the 1940s. This interview is great!
Steve, Thank you so much for adding this information. It is much appreciated. Thanks so much for watching. Hope you will check out my Channel. It is such fun to share my interviews. Blessings....
I am sure i read somewhere that the necklace was bought for her by her husband ( who sometimes appeared in WML) but she was mugged in NYC and it was stolen.
@@socaliraised3527, For me, as an Armenian-American, there’s quite some irony in what you said, because Arlene Francis and Kim Kardashian are both Armenians. One being the epitome of class, the other the epitome of crass! 😉😂😉😂 Look up Arlene Francis in Wikipedia! Francis is actually her middle name. Her real last name is Kazanjian.
I'm looking for the interview that was on Canadian television where Arlene admitted to peeking through a space in her mask during the mystery guest segments of "What's My Line?"
She had a small part in 'All My Sons', starring Edward G. Robinson. She was young, vibrant and sexy. Later, when she guessed Eddie's identity on WML, she said his laugh gave him away. They must've become good friends. God Bless them both.
I thought I'd posted a comment yesterday, but maybe it didn't go through... Anyway, thanks so much for sharing this charming interview with the lovely and always interesting Arlene Francis! Are you the interviewer in this segment, +Eileen Prose? I had the same question as +rrgomes, wondering when and where this aired originally. I was also wondering if there is a little bit more of the interview from before this clip begins, as this segment seems to start in mid-conversation.
SaveThe TPC Thank you for your comments. Yes, I am the interviewer. I have posted almost 500 of my interviews on my channel. I hope you will take a look. I will check the tape to make sure that it is complete. I will repost if there is anything additional. Thanks again.. best to you.
SaveThe TPC Oops...this aired in 1979 or 1980, on The Good Day Show, WCVB in Boston and throughout New England. I hosted this daily, live, program for 13 years.
Robert Gianchino yes it is the same necklace. Arlene wore the necklace for more than 40 years. It was a gift from her late husband, Martin Gable. He gave it to her on their first anniversary. Sadly the neck was snatched off her neck by a thief in 1988 in New York City. The necklace was never recovered.
@@terrijofilms305Unfortunately, it was a bad idea to be displaying the necklace in public. This was especially so being that it was in NYC. She must have been devastated by that loss - not so much for the monetary value, but for the sentimental value. An irreplaceable piece. She was a lovely lady whose mere presence enriched us in many ways.
Well, well...I was there as PA on `Emphasis` the live radio show Arlene did once a week. I also was there when she left the show. I think the thing you can say about Arlene, other than she reminds of Helen Mirren, is that she was not a `personality presenter`. She came from an age of non personality presenters. This is obvious in this particular interview where here interrogator is a personality presenter.
