I love the song you two played and the way you played. I am not american and I have difficulty in understanding what you said exaclty here: " I bronzed my shoes and ::::::::::::::::::::::::a rear view mirror". Can you please tell me what where the exact words you pronouced. John Prine's were " I bronzed my shoes and hung from a rear view mirror". One or two words in your cover were different. Just my thought on the meaning...parents used to take their baby's 1st shoes and bronze them once the babies grew out of them as a keep sake for their children. So the singer hit the road to be free the second he could. Also not needing shoes cuz he driving now. How lucky can one person be just free as a bird in control of your own life, escaping old time generational parental figures determining your values and path. That's my thought of it
