There have been some questions about which specific base stations the Pro 3 is compatible with. Here is a link to more details on the Arlo website. kb.arlo.com/000062253/Is-Arlo-Pro-3-backwards-compatible-with-my-existing-Arlo-system
Steve, Thanks for video. Wasn't aware Arlo was coming out with a Pro 3. Anyway good to know it has similar features to Ultra but without the expensive price. Looking for better add on than Pro 2 without the pricey cost.. Will be checking out more about Pro 3 since you mentioned in your video that it's compatible with my Pro n Pro 2 base stations. Please complete a video comparing Arlo Pro 2 n Pro 3. Thanks.
Its okay, delay in letting u know someone is at your house and it doesn't record everything when it sees someone. People was still walking around my house and the recording stopped nd it didn't catch everything. Also when u try to zoom in to look at someone's face it gets all grainy and you also can't zoom in to see a license plate. I have Arlo Pro 3 and I don't recommend it if you do a lot of traveling, better for inside the house, in my opinion.
Thanks for the review. Just installed it today. What do you think of the night vision? Not very happy with it. Had better night vision with the Arlo Pro cameras. What is you impression?
@@SteveDOES I've tried all variations with the color on/off, spotlight on/off, night vision on/off, color brightness from 0-100% and it either washes out or basically so dark it basically is useless on the Pro 3 cameras as opposed to the Arlo Pro cameras. Total nightmare hooking up and syncing the P3 cameras. I have 2 P3's and 3 Pro cameras. IMO, the color during the day and night completely blows the P3 away.
Bob doc I’m between purchasing the Arlo Pro2 and the Arlo Pro3...I’m conflicted after reading a few reviews. I thought I’d ask you and Steve DOES whether you had an opinion on which system I should go with?
@@cheriekarol8041 I had a single Pro 2 camera as well and had the same issue with the bad night vision pics/video even though the daytime pics/videos were great. After trying all three, Pro, Pro 2 and Pro 3 I've been happiest with the Pro. Since the cameras between the Pro 3 and Ultra are similar I'm not even going to try the Ultra.
Please do comparison to Pro 2. Specifically, I am hearing there is no free 7day cloud recording with Pro 3 - is this true? I hear you can only upload to USB and view locally but it doesnt link to the App?
I think that is wrong. I think 7 day free is available on all Arlo cameras but with the ultra they limit the play back resolution without paying extra.
The main flaw is either Arlo Pro 3 or Arlo Ultra, we can only see 1080p outside the home network which doesn't make any sense to buy these both camera systems.
Great video Steve. I appreciate your first look at the new Pro 3. I was curious about video quality in the various modes and you answered my questions. Looks like I'll be sticking with the Ultra cameras.
Great video, keep up the good work dude..!! Could I pick your brain for 1 min as you seem the right person who knows, I currently have a 3 cam system (Arlo Pro2 - Vmb 4000r3 Hub) which runs faultless. Have just bought a Arlo wireless doorbell but cannot seem to access any recordings whatsoever, I have a 32gb Usb Flashdrive plugged in so i get local recordings as well as the 7 day free cloud recordings (but only from my 3 cams). Even when I unmount the Flashdrive and plug into my laptop there are NO recordings from the doorbell. I understand from viewing one of your previous RU-vid vids that the VMB4540 allows recording to Usb Flashdrive (would this work with the Arlo Wireless video doorbell too...?). I'm currently contemplating buying a VMB4540 but also need to know, if I hook up my 3 cams (3xPro2) to the VMB4540 will I still get 7 days free cloud storage.......??
I’m sorry but did you mention that if you have the whole arlo pro 2 kit. Getting just one arlo pro 3 or ultra will work with the arlo pro 2 modem or tower it comes with..thank you
Hi, just bought the Arlo Pro 2 with 3 cameras...… ! Is there a big difference between Pro 2 and Pro 3. Can I buy one Pro 3 camera and get all the "good stuff"?
There actually is a big difference between the Pro2 and Pro3. I don't have a Pro2 base to actually confirm you'll get all the "good stuff" but in their write up they say that you can. Here's a link to the Arlo site. kb.arlo.com/000062253/Is-Arlo-Pro-3-backwards-compatible-with-my-existing-Arlo-system
Yes these cameras are backwards compatible. Here's a link to Arlo's site for more details. kb.arlo.com/000062253/Is-Arlo-Pro-3-backwards-compatible-with-my-existing-Arlo-system
Good review Steve, now I am a new Subscriber. Does the Arlo cams let you download a program and let you use your desktop \ laptop computer to view recordings (or live views) or make setting changes or is all based on a phone app?? and can you use the app on more then one phone (my phone and the wife can both check live views or recordings??
Arlo states that the PRO 3 uses h.264 and h.265 video compression. What's the default setting? How much reduction in bandwidth is there when switching from h.264 to h.265 in 2K and in 1080P? I live in an area with very poor internet and I'm limited to 1 Mbps upstream (12 down). But even with that limit I can run my ARLO Q cameras at 1080P and only experience occasional pixelation of the stream every 20 seconds or so. I'm hoping H.265 will allow 1080P streaming without any issues. And maybe 2K? To be fair Arlo states that a 2 to 4 Mbps upstream is required for these cameras. They also publish that an Arlo Q requires a 1.5 Mbps upstream connection. Any insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
G'day Steve .. I have a quick question relating to the Night Mode Infra-red .. with the spotlight disabled for night mode would the PIR led's refract the infra-red light off a pane of glass if the camera was pointing towards it? So for example, I wish to mount a camera at the front door which has a full length and 8" wide pane of glass beside it, the camera would be mounted indoors behind the glass with the camera lens pointing through it facing to the outdoors. I hope that makes sense.
What are your thoughts on the video Quality, I went out to Best Buy and picked one up to try today and I was extremely displeased. The colors are extremely bland, the out side housing is obviously made of something cheap as it scratched before I could even put it up. I swiftly removed it from my house packed it back up and will be returning TODAY, my pro 2 is already back in action. Has your experience been better? Also I had no trouble with internet steady gig here. One last also.... I played with the brightness and HDR settings and could only tell a MINOR difference.
Hi Ernest, the colors are awful! Since that's something that can be quickly fixed in a firmware update i'm not too concerned about it. I sent samples directly to Arlo comparing the Ultra, Pro3, and Pro2. Out of those 3 samples, the Pro2 had the best colors by far it also had the worst pixelation. Pro3 and Ultra had a better overall image 'quality' but that's to be expected when comparing a 1080 to a 2k and 4k image.
Super annoyed I have arlo pro 2, only 4 months of having it and it is grainy.. at night the night vision is not the best as it was on the first month WHY??? Does WiFi play a part of it? I have WiFi but it’s not the best but again these cameras were awesome
How good is the Arlo for Canada weather. My Ring doorbell only lasted 2 years and was quite hidden from wind or rain but not cold. now I am looking for security and doorbell with audio. Which doorbell is better for our weather. Thank you
Nice video, if only their software and firmware updates were not so unreliable it would be great. I’ve the pro 2 and it’s a struggle on a daily basis to get the system working as it should.
No SD card??? If something goes wrong with the internet connection we don't have any diveo recorded? Can we put a USB memory stick in the back of the station to save the videos?
you think this was released as cheaper arlo ultra since 4k price scares ppl away? Does they light come on if someone enters a motion zone if they have it?
Most likely. This camera gives Arlo a much more competitive advantage with Ring and Nest pricing. Plus it's 2k resolution with a spot light. So it's actually much better than the current competition.
Steve, can you compare this with ultra, I want to know if I can read license plates sufficiently with the pro3, or do I have to upgrade to the ultra to read license plates, around 30 feet. Let me know. Thanks.
I had the Pro 2, poor quality picture, and now have the Ultra, video and picture quality is so much better but as far as reading lic plates, it’s hit and miss and very unrealistic to think you be able to read plates. Now that the Pro 3 is out, it will really depend on how much it the picture quality is compared to the Pro2 and the price point. The ultra is very expensive.
Hi Dogpark77, Not sure if you've seen my final review on the Ultra (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lNVAjt72Leg.html) but at 4k it's struggled to read a license plate at 30'. I'll definitely test it out in the full Pro3 review but, i'm not expecting much.
What’s the model number for the Pro3 base station? Your video showed that it’s not the one that came with the Arlo Ultra (VMB5000)? My ultra base station definitely has far less range than the Pro2 even though Arlo claims the ultra base has more power. I'd like to know how this new base station compares with the older ones, including the Ultra and Pro2.
So they do specify which models they are compatible with the Pro3 in this link here. kb.arlo.com/000062253/Is-Arlo-Pro-3-backwards-compatible-with-my-existing-Arlo-system
Hi Ezequiel, Here's the write up on the Arlo site. Hope it helps. kb.arlo.com/000062253/Is-Arlo-Pro-3-backwards-compatible-with-my-existing-Arlo-system
Great review once again. I read about the patient Arlo had going on on Pro 3 but wasn’t expecting it this soon. I placed my order for just the 1 single camera. My question to you is the outdoor mount. Is the screw holes on the mount that’s included. Are they in the same area of the metal mount ones Where else I can replace the metal ones and use the same drill holes for new mount that comes with the Pro 3 with out having to drill again. You reply would truly appreciated sir. Thank You!
Steve DOES, I have the Arlo Pro 2 which has 7 days free cloud storage. If I add on the Arlo Pro 3 camera to my Pro 2 base, will I be able to record 7 days of storage with the new camera?
So the Pro 3 comes with 3 free months of their Smart protection plan. That gives you 30 days of cloud storage. After the 3 months are over there is no more cloud storage for that specific camera unless you pay $3 a month. But Arlo is working on a feature where you can access local recordings through the app. And that feature will be free.
Since the Pro 3 is 2K, when you pull up the live view on your app, will it be in 2K or still downgraded to 1080p as 4K is with the Ultra? I know one can record to a media card with the Ultra to avoid paying for cloud service but even that's still a turn off.
I was leaning on buying the Eufy because the audio is 3x better than the Arlo 2. Did they improve the Arlo Pro 3 audio? Hope somebody can answer this because I would like to place an order this week since I am off work next week and can install it.
@@SteveDOES Thanks so much! I placed an order for the Pro 3. I was going to go with the Eufy because I thought the audio was much better. Also the Eufy batteries are not replaceable and the Arlo are that was the deal breaker for me.
it does not have the 7 days of free cloud storage. It does come with 3 free months of the Arlo Smart subscription plan. By the time this expires Arlo plans to have free local storage available through the app.
Steve another great video! Keep it up man! Like the others i would be really interested in seeing a comparison between the ultra and pro 2 cameras against the pro 3. Also that base station is that compatible with the ultra cameras? Or is it a different model with the usb? Thanks dude
Ref: Arlo application: The viewing angle (Margins)(Left to right) does are not in full mode. Photo viewing angle has been shrunk. You need to strain your eyes to see this live view on the IPHONE. The previous Arlo (Legency) application was like looking at a (photo). This application needs the option for a night mode. There is too much white. Google/Microsoft/IOS 13 all are implementing this change on there applications/web pages. Arlo Needs to get on board. With your help, you can make this happen. The Camera application is just as important as a new camera review. The camera application I would consider a factor also when purchasing a camera. I direct you to the reviews from IOS/Google customers on their Apple Store/Google play pages. My two cents.
Thanks Steve, another informative video! Just to clarify what your video said, the Pro 3 camera is backwards compatible with Pro 2 system and cameras, correct?
That is correct. Here is a link to Arlo's site for more information. kb.arlo.com/000062253/Is-Arlo-Pro-3-backwards-compatible-with-my-existing-Arlo-system
@@SteveDOES I have 8 arlo pro 2 cams and 2 base station. The base stations randomly go offline at times. Sometimes the cam would record an event and have the preview but the footage would not be there. Very long connections times when clicking on a cam I dont have super fast internet but i imagine 50mb is enough. Cams sporadically appearing as offline, dont get me wrong I like them but sometimes i dont feel as secure due to these issues. To edit i failed to mention im on premium.
Steve DOES I have issues where I’ll get a motion notification but then no corresponding video will be in the library. Also, sometimes the recorded video will freeze for a few seconds and then unfreeze so the video “jumps” to where it’s supposed to be, missing many frames that could be critical. Audio stays consistent that whole time.
Would be great to know how fast (or how long) the push notifications take from the time motion is detected till you receive the push notification. Also, would like to know if you can plug it in and it can record 24-7. Thanks!
I"ll have to check this out with the Pro3 but on the Ultra it was about 9-11 seconds for me. This is due to the fact that the "Smart" Subscription analyzes the feed going to the cloud and tries to determine if it's a Person, Vehicle, Package, Animal, or Other. You can then tailor your notifications to those categories. I've been using it for a while with my camera above the front door. I only get app notifications when it's a person which is awesome because a lot of cars drive by my house. Unfortunately you can't turn off the Smart notifications. I've addressed this with Arlo and we'll see what happens in the future.
Steve DOES if you also own an Ultra, I think it would be interesting to see a comparison of battery life in the Pro 3 vs the Ultra. You could put them next to each other so they capture all the same events (or have one trigger the other) and use the same settings (besides 4K and 2k quality). Then write down their battery % every night until they die.
Plug an external drive or thumb drive in the back of the base. You can then manage it in the app by selecting the base and clicking on Storage Settings.
Great question! I actually forgot about the Security system. I'll ask about that. As for the Video Doorbell, i'm being told that it's being released in 2019. No official date yet.
Well this was just a 1st impression on the Pro3. I didn't want to spend time going into an App that hasn't changed. With that said, what issues are you having in the app? I'll try to address them when i do the full review on the Pro3. I'd also like to know which competitors app you like that most so i can do a little comparison.
This is still not up to par compare to the Eufy cam & neither is the ultra even with their 4K resolution stil not touching the Eufy cam. the picture, color accuracy & audio quality of the eufy cam are unmatched & no subscription needed. It comes with a 16g as card & can be max up to a 164g for my money I’ll the the Eufy’s any day.
I have the Arlo Pro 2 system. So if I want to upgrade my cameras to the Pro 3, I have to replace all my solar panels as well because the charging ports are different now. Just like Apple, another cash-grabbing company that forces their customers to waste money, and encourage waste by making older but perfectly good (AND expensive) accessories obsolete. I won't spend another cent on this company and I hope the brand dies off soon.
