I have no trouble doing these the 'wrong' way around, but I think that's because this isn't the first time I've been made aware that I usually cross my arms or clasp my hands one way and not the other. If it had never occurred to me before, I think I would have to hesitate just as much as you guys did.
Right handed, but left arm and left thumb came out on top. Also, I notice a similar thing with crossing my legs: it's very awkward, worse than with arms or hands, to cross them the 'wrong' way. Again, it's the left one that comes out on top.
I'm the same with hands and arms, but I make a conscious decision which way to cross my legs depending on who I'm talking to. (I read years ago that crossing them towards a person is positive body language, and vice versa)
Now cross one arm over one leg... Go! Which combination was it? I'm glad you asked. Try it on your octopus friends 🤣 Love you guys, God bless, and thank you for creating the channel 🙏🏼
I vaguely remember from my anthropology class that having your right thumb on top after clasping your hands is a recessive trait! Wish I knew a little more but this is something worth trying with some friends this week :D
I gather there's virtually no one other than myself who, when crossing arms, don't actually end up holding one of the biceps', instead just folding both hands around my chest.
So yesterday i say a video from the channel 59 seconds about this exact thing. He reasoned that it also had to do with left/right brained people. Creativity or more analytical. But left and right handedness would make a lot of sense as well
I'm reasonably sure that the whole left-brain / right-brain, creative / analytical theory has fallen out of favour if not outright debunked. It's a lot more complicated than that I believe.
curious - since i'm alone: IS there a relation between arm-crossing and the x-handed? bc i'm as fast doing it without thinking (left up) or with thinking (right up) (same with clasping)?! (btw am officially righthanded, but back in the day when there were no right-handes mices and joysticks, i prefered them on the left hand instead right?) edit: to make things interesting: without thinking, one time right is up, one time left..??
Started out left handed, but became right as I aged. I still do some things exclusively with my left (like brushing my teeth). That said, right was on top for both. Hope that information helps.
Doesn't seem to be any relation. Am right-handed but have my left arm on top instinctively and my right thumb on top with the other way around just feeling awkward to me.
i just wish that Deane or Rob would post the solution to these question... I keep trying, visting my old dad today, i told him about the riddle (since he made me watch curiosity show all the time), he, right handed, tried and his right arm/thumb were always "up"... now we both have a riddle to think about, since a left-handed nurse tried and always had the left arm/thumb up... (Deane, Rob - you caused some havoc in Thurgovia, Switzerland ;)
First -- right arm, second -- left hand when clasp. I'm right handed. It took me a month to learn writing with left hand though. I don't know what it means.
I must be an odd ball.....both ways the opposite, also I'm right handed & knife always goes in my left hand & fork in the right when eating, I'm definitely not ambidextrous though I picked up juggling easily
Thanks. Curiosity Show was a national science program featuring Dr Rob Morrison and Dr Deane Hutton. It was made in Adelaide, South Australia and screened nationally in Australia as well as in Europe, Asia and Australasia (14 countries and dubbed in German for Europe) from 1972-1990. Deane and Rob intentionally used everyday items around the house (like old rusty cans) so that people could repeat the demonstrations with materials they had to hand. In 1984 Curiosity Show won the Prix Jeunesse International, the world's top award for TV programs for young people. Rob and Deane are steadily uploading segments at ru-vid.com Why not subscribe?
Now I want to know if there's a difference in distance between my left arm's nerves and right arm's nerve in relation to their off shooting connection to the spinal cord.
Now why don't you try drumming your fingers on the table or kind of like Mr Burns from The Simpsons when he says "exact" which fingers do you touch first?
