"Emptying" is to "let go". Arm Emptying, practises the ability to allow force to transmit freely through the structure out into the arms. It is a type of "looseness" practice, an opposite quality to tension generating patterns such as handbalancing and gymnastics strength.
What you love can eventually turn on you, and this is certainly the case for a lot of strength/tension based patterns as when you over-invest, the body becomes stiff, overspecialised in those patterns. Arm Emptying has been a cure, radically transformative for me to maintain a sense of health and longevity within my wider practice.
The arms are unique as they freely hang from the torso, and specialise in open kinetic chain movements - they are designed to hang, swing, whip around. Emptying practises increase sensitivity throughout the kinetic chain and help you identify blockages of tension in your structure. The less you hold on, the more you can use your arms as they are designed - to become elastic.
I introduce 4 sensitivity practices that can be used to identify tension patterns and help "let go" of tension in the body.
1. Arm Sinking
2. Walking Swing
3. Walking Swing with Bicep Snap
4. Shoulders, Elbows, Wrist Focused Shaking
I recommend that you pick one of these practices and practise daily, at a minimum of 6 minutes, ideally 15 minutes per day, for at least 30 days.
These practices take patience but reward you well.
As you practice, observe and shift your focus around different parts of the body, external and internally. Feel what is happening throughout, and after the practice.
These have been developed from my experiences in the practitioner program studying with @PraksisCanberra and from classes with Juan Rueda.
