When I was first learning the arm triangle, I remember struggling so much. And then eventually I began to understand it and it became my best sub. I thought.
I had a neck issue that exposed my poor technique and I had to start from scratch learning how to arm triangle with good posture and clean mechanics. So listen closely.
This will help fix some common problems people have when they try to set up ARM TRIANGLE CHOKES (also known as a Side Choke or a Head and Arm Choke) on good practitioners.
ZERO SQUEEZE required for the finish & if you're doing this right, you can even finish it one handed.
A small portion from a seminar I did in Jacksonville, Florida at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu before the Corona Virus situation kicked off.

That's exactly what I was looking for, for such a long time!!! I find myself in top mount so often, but struggling to finish the submission, most of the time hunting for arm bar. Thank You so much, very in depth explanation on all small details!!!

I must have done thousands of arm triangles. The detail about hooking with the chin before dropping the head was excellent.

Great stuff as always sir! I learned a few things from @neilmelansonmma that have helped me as well. He says start the choke early meaning get your shoulder driving down in to their neck right away and then, my favorite, "don't let the crook rob you of the choke" - make sure you have good choking pressure from your bicep, no gap btwn their neck and your arm caused by the crook of your arm.

So in half guard it seems like you should be able to either get the head n arm choke….or the punch choke, every time. ? Sorry, 59 year old white belt question….

At minute 5:09 you say that the oponent does a mistake if he frames with his other arm, because you can go for an arm bar. Why should that be a mistake? Defending a nearly finished arm triangle is worth it. Especially since the arm bar isn't even properly set up at that point and you would have to still do alot of things which gives him more ways to escape. And having an oponent doing an arm bar is always preferable to an oponent doing an arm triangle because he has to give up position. Is there something I don't understand? Then please help me.
