Q:What are your system specs?
A: i5 Ivy Bridge 3570k; 120 gig SSD; 1tb Standard HD(for recording); 8 gigs ram; nVidia Geforce GTX 560ti (I run ArmA anywhere between 20-60 FPS, on med-high settings)
Q: What do you use for recording?
A: Fraps for video and system audio; Audacity for personal audio.
Q: Why don't you play in First Person?
A: I'm a 3rd person gamer. I hate first person. It's unrealistically restricting. A game has to be extremely exceptional to get me to play it if it's First Person Only(i.e. Planetside).
Q: Were you in the Military?
A: US Army 99-06, Radio Operator(25C). Non-Combat Veteran.
Q: Is that AI or real people?
A: If it's Wasteland or DayZ, it's real people. If it's an ArmA Mission it's AI unless I very specifically state otherwise. The 15th doesn't PvP.
Q: What ArmA mods do you use?
A: For ArmA 2 - ACE/ACRE are the core. Others include: DFS 3rd Person, Instantviewdistance, SMK Animations Lite, ST_Collision and ST_Evasive, and Blastcore WarFX. For sound: Vanilla mixed with JSRS.
For ArmA 3 - Will change often as mods are released.

The tank shell damage probably is based on the angle that it hits the target. When the shell hits on a angle the armor is "more thick" than hitting a direct hit.

I was really hoping that in Arma 3 vechicle damage system will be realistic and not based on HP, but on modules destuction.

You dont understand. Moduls destuction should be the base of what you do to vehicles, not something next to vehicle HP. If this game is suppose to be relistic you shopuld be able to stand next to tank and shoot his engine all day long and no explosion should ocur, becouse there is nothing to explode in engine. The same with Engines shot by cop.

I dont agree about cars beeing set on fire by bullets. Odds are so smal that it could be ignored by realistic game developers. Unless it is special kind of bullets even if you will shot fuel canister itself, bullets will not set fuel on fire.

Schmitdzhee Goatson have you ever jumped holding 70-90 extra pounds? What about even walking around? Also Arma is the most realistic game so far. Saying that does not mean that it is the most realistic ever or that is is equal to reality itself. Its fact that as of right now, other than living the experience youreself in real like, its the most realistic game based on military warfare.

From what I've seen with the 2 different guided rounds for the Scorcher is one relies on the gunner's sights and the other could probably be used in accordance with a laser designator, but don't take my word for it, I only had about 20 minutes in the tank.

Wouldn't it be more fun if you get the info from the computer and then use those values to aim the artillery? Takes away some of the fun to just point and click on a map. Wasn't it something like I just described with the mortars in Arma 2?

"Guided" should be a GPS-guided shell that hits exactly where you aim it, while "laser-guided" requires someone designating on the ground to hit something directly.

FCS is meant for a moving target to disable it so you can hit it when it is immobile

Hey, Jester. Not sure if you've discovered this by now; but you can engage in direct fire with the 155mm by angling the gun using page up, and page down(default keys).

The MLRS has a range of 9km to 38km (depending on the ammo) and an astonishing range of above 100 miles and close to 200 with some MGM-40 variations of ammo.

You were also shooting the rear armor on a greater angle than the frontal armor, which may also indicate that impact angle is taken into account in ARMA 3's terminal ballistics.

ArmA 3's tank combat revolves around aiming for critical areas and in as beneficial angle as possible. When engaging the enemy armor, try hitting a piece with a 90 degree angle towards you. That should give the best penetration. Also, you can shoot a pointless part of the tank for hours. For example, the tank didn't die at 5:00 because the angle of impact was waaaay too big, the rounds just simply ricocheted. If you do manage to score a ~90 degree hit to the hull of the tank, 1-2 shots should kill it.

Probably because cluster munitions are a real type of ammunition common in many different types of artillery (in real life the MLRS and infantry mortars both have different kinds of cluster munitions, but obviously cluster bombs dropped from aircraft are the most obvious ones)

The artillery and MLRS computers should allow for a set number of shots (say you want 3 fired, it will automatically fire three, just type it in) and set certain shots to certain locations. This just makes it easier than choose location, fire, choose location, fire, etc.

guided is for the gunner of the artillery, the target has to be in line of sight and there is no listed minimum range.

The Black Eagle was a prototype built on a T-80 chassis. The only major was it's optics equipment and the heavy gun it sported. Also, it looks like BI changed the gun barrel on this one. The original images had a square type of canon. Too futuristic looking I thought. Now it looks great. Thanks for your vids dude.

Ya thats exactly it he was shooting at 45 degree angle pretty much at the back which makes the effective armour like double or triple(if arma 3 even has this i have no idea) and he was shooting at the front armour more straight on. Also the t-100 has slopped armour on the front to make it more effective but cause he was elevated it pretty much made the slop redundant in this situation.

I'd like to see some synchronized fire where you shoot a high arc shot first, then a low are shot that is timed to land at closely the same time as the first one.

I did a test lining up every heavy/medium armored vehicle in a line, started all their engines, pulled behind them all with a tank and shot them all with a AP round right in their rear armor. Oddly enough the medium armor APC's (probably with the better hidden engine) took 5/6 AP round before their engine was disabled, the heavy tanks took 1 shot to the rear with AP and killed the engine(gun still worked) and the Artillery had pretty good engine armor they took 2/3 depending on where I hit.

just a quick update: the T-100 is now the T-99 and is currently in development. Planed to come out in 2015 and be at full strength at 2020. Also an interesting thing about it is that it uses an unmanned turret which means that it should be harder to hit.

Nope, it's Object-640 prototype and it was canned with the entire T-80 line developement. You mix it with Armata program which is supposed to provide several types of vehicles using same chasis "at reasonable price" unlike previous proposal, T-95 tank (Object-195)

I believe the reason why it took longer to take out the back of that tank with the Slammer/T-100 main gun was because of the sheer slant on that already slant back, with front being just a straight shot through the slant armor because of no transversal angling, could be wrong though, those are the mechanics of WoT I'm speaking of

I think the reason why the T-100 took so many shots to the rear was because you were firing at a steep angle, So you were doing less damage.

that was because that circle indicated the max range not the minimun if you go back to 18:00 when he is telling you that there is basically no max range on that is because the mode was on full and before he fired the shots he changed the mode to close which made the minimun range basically nonexistent but significantly lowered the max range so the circle you saw when he fired the rockets were the max range for the close mode

The reason it took so long to destroy a tank is the angle that your shooting, you shoot at an angle the AP is going to do minimal damage or just bounce off, i think they added physics in the tanks AP rounds to make it a little more realistic.

Maybe it was because of the angle. the first was back to about 45 degrees, put in front of the firing was almost 90 degrees

Laser Guided shells are guided to their target via a guy on the ground with a laser designator. Guided Shells are guided onto their target via orbiting GPS satellites.

dont know if any one ha tested them out yet but if u ran in to anything all the units will jump out. this was a pain when i tried to set up a simple mission. and jest i want to point out that the mlrs and 155 both work under artillery support module. you might want to do an update.Also guided round will seek out heat signatures and laser guided will follow the the laser designator.

I'm sure that a lot of things like that (maybe except animations) can and will be shortly fixed by the modding community. It will not be long for a sound mod to be released, and I'm sure everybody is patiently waiting for the next ACE installment. It would be nice if you didn't need mods, but the ArmA modding community is just great, and anything that can be done to improve the game will be done by fans :)

1. Never used Arma, only a guess. I suspecting not necessarily the most important is (?) which part of tank you hitting, but also at what angle. Projectiles hitting at high angles will be more likely to bounce while perfectly perpendicular one will have best chance to penetrate. Not only that, but relative width of merely 2 inch armor from perspective of extremely high angle projectile might be as much as 2, 3 feet, while 3x stronger 6 in armor hit exactly at 90 degree will be only 6 in.

You hit the first heavy armor with an angel. Rounds will most likely bounce of. That's why it took so many rounds.

the reason why you took out the second tank faster was that your shots weren't as angled as on the first. Try to go for a 90° angle to target.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's a modern MBT with a 155mm main gun, which is why it says 120mm. Tank guns are cannons with fixed propellant cartridge. 155mm howitzer uses separate shells and variable propellant packs. I'm pretty sure there's nothing in NATO's inventory, not sure about the old Warsaw Pact or the ChiComm's PLA. Nearly all MBTs are either smooth bore cannon (western nations) or rifled (eastern nations). In the East, the 125mm caliber now standard, the west is 120mm smoothbore.

No, the "target cam" a.k.a. main sight is usually on top of the turret, right side in most western tanks (like the camera-looking thing you see in abrams, for example) and left side in russian tanks. But I agree, you should be able to hit where you're aiming. In real life, the main sight is automatically adjusted when you use the laser range finder.

You were hitting the tank in the rear at more of an angle. It's harder to penetrate tank armor at an angle closer to 180 degrees. I'm not sure if this is actually in the game, but that might be why the front took less shots if the armor is equally thick on all sides.

Actually im pretty sure the "Guided" Shell option is referring to the SADARM system: (Wikipedia URL Here) /wiki/Sense_and_Destroy_ARMor The SADARM Artillary shell was in Arma 2, so its likely also in arma 3 because its so FUTUREWAR.

I think that the T-100 took more shots to the rear because of the angle you were shooting at would have amplified the thickness of the armor (think sloped armor but sideways) compared to the T-100 you shot almost head on.. Also I think the guided shell is the Excalibur round (on the show Future Weapons)...

The reason the front took less shots is because you were more 'square' to the front of the tank. when you were shooting the T-100 (T-95 Black Eagle) in the ass you were hitting it on a roughly 45 degree angle, which makes the tanks armour much thicker and also increasing the chance of a ricochet. look up sloped armour for more information as it is the same effect taking place.

It would be great if Bohemia Interactive refines the firing animations/explosions and sounds in it's next title, apart from that it's an amazing game.

seems like the Fire Control wants mobility kills and not destructive ones. looked to me like it hit more at the level of the wheels/tracks. wonder if they could include a direct fire mode for the mobile artillery. although i imagine people would then try using them as heavy tanks.

Ok, maybe "balance" isn't the best word to describe it. What I meant is differeniate. Each faction's vehicle should have distinct features that make them appeal to certain people.

2. That's why virtually all today's tanks has frontal armor plate at high angles. Projectile traveling from front, (more or less) parallel to ground has to cut through much greater length of armor of frontal plate, than it's width is, because of its angle. Assuming Arma is realistically simulating those factors (?), much more sense has hitting side of the tank (at reasonable angle), than its back at very high. Perhaps that's why confusing results of back/front number of shots required?

Bluefor consist of NATO (Mostly US Army as of now.) -- OpFor consist of CSAT (Iran) -- GreenFor consist of AAF (Altis Action Force/Greek Military) FFA (Freedom Fighters of Altis).

i prefer the t-100 already it just feels better and it also doesnt feel like you're riding high waiting to be shot like in the Blufor tank.... just my opinion

I think to balance out the Blufor & Opfor, Blufor vehicles should have less armament but more armor, and vise versa for Opfor.

I think you destroyed the front armor quicker beause you were aiming a bit higer than you should. Not all shots hit the front hull, some hit the turret; this is traditionally the most delicate part of a tank.

All in all I am very impressed. A little disappointed with the a lot of the new armor being copy and reskins. I had expected a lot more from BI. Thankfully the modding community will add the variety I crave.

When you were shooting the rear, the tank was at a more extreme angle than the front. You should have shot the side. You'll more likely kill crew members or even hit an ammo rack.

I don't understand the aiming system - "lower to the left". In a real tank where you aim is where the round will go. The onboard computer should compensates for the different position of the camera and the canon... Could you please elaborate on this matter? And modern tanks do have lock capabilities for shooting rounds while moving and on moving targets.Thanks.

Titan can now get it's upgrade, I really hope you guys switch over to ARMA 3 soon.

in arma 3 the T95/Black Eagle has a 120 mm gun, but in real it can have 2 different type of guns: the 125mm 2A46 and a 152mm ( high velocity) which means it can blast the turret of even the best armored tank!
